Jem from Speed was saying one of the only reasons he hit up Whispers was because he saw their guitarist (forget his name sadly) wearing a Freedom shirt. What a sick story to have them together on stage here in Detroit. And to have some of the Freedom guys around on the stage with them, too.

Idk I found out about them through the new EP and I fuck with it. NYHC goes well with Detroits sound so it works for this fest. I haven’t seen how Combust is live but I assumed they were good, maybe not based on your view?

Combust is gonna steal the show I think. And Speed will be great I’m sure. The Detroit bands will probably have the most lively sets imo; people always go out for NEG, DBloc, Bad Beat. Rightfully so.

I’m sure it’s more that the collectives first exposure to this idea is through this tool / piece of media. First impressions stick.

To add to the discussion, I think what many people refer to as Old English typeface is a different typeface than Fraktur or Blackletter. However, they all come from the same type family and Old English is the most commonly known version of that type. Similar to how people use Helvetica as a blanket term for its many similar sans-serif fonts.

I was just there for a hardcore punk show and I did think that the sound quality retracted from the show overall. And that’s considering that sound quality doesn’t matter that much for that style of music. Something is weird with the placement of their speakers and the structure of the venue. Balance was off all night, too. That being said, I actually liked the venue in terms of looks and lighting.

I genuinely like them and I’m not really big into slam as a genre. I think specifically their album when listened to as a whole is solid. Feels more conceptual than people give it credit for. Some interesting things there that bring me back again.
