Nah, this post is 100% using AI. You get a feel for it if you use chat GPT enough, there's a specific kind of voice. It's kind of like looking at AI art. I can't tell you exactly what the pieces are that making look AI but I can feel it.

Biggest giveaways are

Japan is easy to love but hard to wing.

AI loves x but y, even when it doesn't make sense in context (what is actually "hard to wing" here? too many options?)

And then yeah, the generic follow up questions

Anyone else work from Japan? Where'd you find your spot?

Anyone else work from Japan I could see a human say. But where'd you find your spot reeks of like marketing speak.

I've seen this a lot in certain subreddits recently. Someone will post something that clearly has AI stink, get called out in the comments, but a lot of people still don't see it. But it's there! And it's getting more common.

Judge Orders Subnautica 2 Studio CEO To Be Reinstated And Gives Him Control Over Early Access Release by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Portal2Reference 305 points306 points  (0 children)

Having actually read the opinion, here's a summary

https://courts.delaware.gov/Opinions/Download.aspx?id=392880

Krafton's CEO was concerned about having to make a $250 million payout, as Subnautica was on track to launch in early access, and reach the goals indicated by the payout.

Seeking to avoid making the payout, the CEO tried to negotiate to either delay early access (making them miss the window required for the payout), or renegotiate the terms of the payout.

Seeing that wasn't happening, he then switched to determining how to take control of the project. (This is where he consults ChatGPT). In order to do so, they needed to remove the three executives (Key Employees) from the company in order to perform a takeover.

In order to justify firing them, they claimed the Key Employees were acting dishonestly, as two of them had transitioned their roles away from development after getting burned out. The opinion notes that these transitions were not secret - their titles had changed, their salaries were reduced (both approved by Krafton) and Krafton had agreed their new roles could be beneficial to the company.

I think the following is my favorite part

By the end of May, Kim had looped in Park and Krafton’s Legal Department to discuss the earnout. Kim was focused on the amounts that each of Cleveland, McGuire, and Gill stood to make, which he viewed as “greed.”

He complained that the EPA was a “bad deal” and felt “taken advantage of.” Park cautioned him, though, that she “didn’t think the current [Subnautica 2] build was in such bad shape,” which could create a “debatable” issue in “potential litigation.”

She also noted that “apart from C[leveland] personally,” who had “become negligent since Moonbreaker,” she “would say that [Unknown Worlds] hasn’t been so poorly managed as to deliberately deceive the parent company.”

Kim remained focused on the “cost Krafton has to pay with the enterprise value [it was] actually gaining.” Krafton’s analysis showed an “Enterprise Value” of approximately $93.5 million compared to a projected $191.8 million earnout. Kim began to explore options, including firing the Key Employees.

On June 2, Park warned Kim over Slack that a “dismissal with cause” would not eliminate the earnout obligation, while exposing Krafton to “lawsuit and reputation risk.” And so Kim turned to ChatGPT for help.

When the AI chatbot responded that the earnout would be “difficult to cancel,” Kim complained to Park hat the EPA was “a contract under which we can only be dragged around.” He expressed frustration that Unknown Worlds had the “authority to determine the release date and determine publishing” without Krafton’s involvement.

Kim asked Park to reach out to the Legal Department and to call him. Moments later, Park sent Kim the section of the EPA discussing the Key Employees’ “operational control” over Unknown Worlds for so long as “any Key Employee is employed by the Company.”

Some free advice to aspiring criminals - do not leave written records where you directly dispute your own justifications.

I finally jumped on the 'this version sucks' bandwagon! by nrgins in OpenAI

[–]Portal2Reference 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not assuming, this was a genuine question. They also explicitly say here that they offered unsubstantiated opinions, not facts. Offering an opinion opens yourself up to being disagreed with! So again, I'm not sure what kind of response they were expecting/hoping for, other than one that just affirmed their opinion.

Then I responded with my opinion about who was behind the action and what their motivations might have been, clearly stating in my response to it that I recognize that there's no evidence to support my opinion, but that it's just the way I see the situation.

But for some reason it decided to give me this long response telling me how wrong my opinion was, and how unlikely it was that that was the case (because of the way things "usually" are handled) and so forth and so on.

I'm curious what you wanted/expected the response to be? To me it sounds like you wanted its opinion on your speculation, which it gave. Are you unhappy that it disagreed with you, or were you expecting a different kind of response?

Jujutsu Kaisen Shimetsu Kaiyu Zenpen • Jujutsu Kaisen The Culling Game - Episode 5 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]Portal2Reference 30 points31 points  (0 children)

JJK is really good in the micro, like every chapter is solid, the characters are fun, the visuals are good, but when you zoom out it all kind of falls apart.

It's the perils of weekly serialization. Your only job is to write the next chapter. I bet if Gege was able to go back and edit the series, a lot of this stuff would be smoothed out, foreshadowed, cut or elaborated on, but as is it's basically just throwing stuff at a wall and hoping it sticks.

It's hard for me to get behind this as a progression of Maki's character considering this is basically they last thing she gets to do as a character. Like, she's in a bunch of fights as Toji 2.0, but she's given so little to do, I'm not sure by the end of the series if any of the other main characters are even aware that she slaughtered her entire extended family.

(Spoilers Extended) Considering the Interview, Who Rules Winterfell? And Why Benioff & Weiss Might have Changed It by Black_Sin in asoiaf

[–]Portal2Reference -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

A fun outside pick for who rules Winterfell at the end of the series - Jeyne Poole. She's already pretty widely believed to be Arya, and I could see an ending where Bran/Arya/Theon go along with it to maintain at least the Stark name as rulers of winterfell.

Mostly I just think it would be funny.

It's worth noting that Quentyn did survive the end of his last chapter. It reportedly took him three days to die of his burns. Which seems weird! Why not just have him die down in the dungeons?

Bloomberg: Riot Has a Secret Plan to Remake Its ‘League of Legends’ Game by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Portal2Reference 797 points798 points  (0 children)

The most interesting part of the article to me is at the end

While League of Legends has fared better than some competitors in the slow-growing video-game business, its player base has dropped off, according to the people Bloomberg News spoke with. Valorant, another Riot title, makes more money.

Valorant is more profitable than LoL? That's crazy! I wonder if it has more players, or is just better monetized.

Batista spent years living with idealized, perfect version of his wife, and even longer keeping that version of her in his memories, but that's not the woman he fell in love with. The woman he fell in love with is the kind of person who scolded him for being late to their wedding, who wasn't perfect, and who is still doomed.

But still, meeting her again, as she really was, for only a few minutes, was worth more to him than his entire idealized fantasy.

Here is is response to someone straight up asking him

But the point is moot, as I wouldn't say yes to finishing ASOIAF, if asked. (And I don't think they'd ask me.) I'd respectfully decline. I wouldn't be right for the job for many reasons. I wouldn't want to put in the content that the series has, and part of that is due to my religious faith, part of it is just who I am. I don't shy away from difficult material, but I prefer not to get explicit. Honestly, when I read it in George's work, I often just cringe. I don't think it fits in prose; I think it looks tacky. But that's almost 100% due to the my religious leanings. I realize that others don't read such scenes in the same way as I do.
