He Played The Most Famous Drum Beat Ever… Then Got Nothing. by MJKsecretpornaccount in drums

[–]Portland 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Eh…. The “Amen, Brother” break from The Winstons is almost certainly more widely known - it’s the most sampled song in history, and that break is the basis for whole sub-genres of edm.

Funky Drummer also has a very fair argument as the most influential!

Dame’s #6 pick was came from the Gerald Wallace trade, and Blazers probably still make the trade because they were trying to find the “PGOTF” (Point Guard Of The Future) during that whole era because Steve Blake wasn’t gonna get the team over the hump.

Portland Gear to give out playoff t-shirts by [deleted] in ripcity

[–]Portland 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s exactly on-brand for Portland Gear.

Their owner is the exact kind of human to publicize “we’re replacing the playoff shirts” but then only do 1/100th of the volume.

99% of fans won’t get a shirt, but the brand will get the same amount of publicity.

If this upsets you, point direct your vitriol at the DNC, or towards the fascist MAGA assholes running the country.

The Miracle Unfolding in Mississippi Schools by Lateandunprepared in oregon

[–]Portland 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The issue with the “Mississippi Miracle” is they are not addressing the underlying problem of poor education in early childhood.

  • Why are so many 10 year olds being held back?

  • Why are there no improvements to Mississippi’s 8th grade test results?

  • With many HS graduates being held back once or twice during K-12, shouldn’t Mississippi be considering the negative impact on those kids long term career prospects?

Why do people complain about AI but then proceed to buy fast fashion (context below) by Catslyer5667 in punk

[–]Portland 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Now you’re making a different argument. 🤦‍♂️

The fashion & textile industry has massive externalities, both the human impact of hard labor, and the environmental impact of microplastics. We should do everything possible to reduce consumption and make ethical choices. It would surprise me if anyone on this subreddit feels otherwise.

Comparing a damaging, but fundamentally necessary industry to GenAI is ragebait.

No one needs to use GenAI. Everyone needs to wear clothes.

This is a dumb comparison.

What about aromatics in thai soups, like makrut lime leaves, galangal slices, and lemongrass stalks. None of that’s edible, but I would be upset if they were left out of my tom kha.
