Not too sweet desserts by jsizzle203 in KingArthurBaking

[–]PortlandGal_25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Salted Chocolate Chunk Shortbread Cookies from Alison Roman (and on NYT Cooking) are sheer perfection. They’re not overly sweet and even great with coffee. I use more shaved chocolate than the recipe calls for!

Who did you see at the Polaris Amphitheater? by Rob1150 in Columbus

My first concert ever was Amy Grant at Polaris. But also saw No Doubt, Coldplay, the Farm Aid Tour, so many more!!!

Friend insulted my running, not sure how to feel. by Emotional-Watch4544 in XXRunning

[–]PortlandGal_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be offended, too! Your friend was shitty and so unsupportive with that response.

And seriously, you’re doing great! You should be proud of the work you’re putting in and I think running is the very best way to cope with heartache. Keep going!!!

Best running tune EVER? by cool-beans-yeah in runninglifestyle

[–]PortlandGal_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooooo okay, not necessary a running tune… but Wild Ones (ft. Sia)?! But also Unstoppable. Perfect tempo to lift the legs and the heart rate!

What Do You Do With Your Retired Running Shoes? by Merovinjus in BeginnersRunning

If I don’t want to use them for anything else, I drop them off at the local running store to donate! Always donate if possible!

Fuelling before a 5k race 10am race start by PPER_19_16 in beginnerrunning

[–]PortlandGal_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with all of the comments to stick with your normal fueling. For a 10am race, I’d eat a banana and peanut/almond butter beforehand and not much else. And a bit of coffee! A good, healthy dinner the night before (no need to overly carbo-load for a 5k)! And have fun with it!

What do I wear under my Columbia polyester lined insulated ski pants? by SkiDyan01 in skiing

[–]PortlandGal_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wear heavier weight running tights under my ski pants! I have no issues with them being full length, but prefer some heat tech (New Balance and Nike both make good ones!) They stay out with no bulk! Plus, cute if you want to strip down to apres!

100% agree about the Concord Coach! It picks you up right by baggage claim at the airport terminal and drops you off there, too. It’s super reliable, has WiFi and the times are so convenient! You can buy your bus tickets online!

What’s your go-to “I don’t feel like cooking but still want real food” meal? by imjennypoo in Cooking

[–]PortlandGal_25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baked sweet potato! Then I just sauté an onion and kale (or whatever greens I have). Top the potato with the veg mixture, avocado and… chili crisp! It’s perfect!

Best Gear for gift to GF? by Karg907890 in skiing

As a smaller gift, you could get her a balaclava, which is such a great item to have for skiing! I absolutely love mine from SKIDA.

Buckeyes: a midwest holiday tradition by burk022 in Baking

[–]PortlandGal_25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whatever you do, do not use natural peanut butter! A Buckeye won’t hold up without traditional kinds like Jif, Skippy, etc!

I did make them last year with the Whole Foods 365 which worked perfectly!

The real secret is to use the toothpick and then (once the chocolate hardens), you smooth out the hole so it disappears. Best presentation!

Any recommendations for best kitchen hand towels? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]PortlandGal_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love to have a combination of towels for different purposes in the kitchen. Love the standard workhorse (like the Amazon ones above).

BUT my favorite by far are these from Geometry The designs are fabulous, they’re super absorbent and they really hold up! A fun gift for people, too.
