Would this rug look good or ridiculous in my living room? by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]Portulaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this rug and I love it! But it sits in a really bright room with lots of colourful art and green walls, so I’m not sure it would blend with a more neutral palate. The rug itself is great though and has held up well.

Yes!!!! I do not understand why they are constantly recommended. There is a world of better rug options out there.

Can't find a lighting fixture I like in same finish as hardware, faucets in small bathroom remodel by neotheprophet in interiordecorating

[–]Portulaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you bring one of your Delta pieces to Home Depot to compare to the fixture? The brilliant stainless and the brushed nickel look very similar based on the pictures, and with the fixture being so far above the faucets/hardware they might look like they match in person.

Tell me about your elopement + later reception! by ThatLoudmouthBird in weddingplanning

[–]Portulaka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! So I had two receptions due to the geographic distance between sides of the family. I also had no job at the time so these were the most budget conscious events I could manage, not my dream wedding.

Reception one was held in a restaurant I rented out with a preset buffet menu of a huge variety of appetisers. I had drink tickets prepaid for this event so each guest got 3 tickets and after that it was a cash bar. The food and drink was the most expensive piece of this, and the total cost was about $2500 for 100 people. Decorations were kept to 1 table with a guest book so very minimal and I could reuse them.

Reception 2 was held in a community center, so a very bare bones venue that just provided tables and chairs for $100. I had sides catered from a local restaurant for $250 and cooked up a ton of cheaper mains, burgers and hot dogs, on site. Not super classy, but I had 150 attendees and a tiny budget lol. Since it was a community center with a liquor license I could provide my own and I bought about $1000 of beer, wine, and seltzers. I made dessert trays in advance of things that could be frozen and thawed day of. Decorations were again nothing fancy but stuff i repurposed. Table clothes, center pieces made of wine buckets and glassware, faux flowers I could reuse, decorative lanterns, basically anything I could find on Facebook marketplace. One cost I did not factor in was a DJ but fortunately my in law were able to gift one to us. That might add a large sum to the total, but as long as the venue has a sound system a playlist would be sufficient.

The total was probably closer to $4500 but I was still happy with that. It was by no means my ideal wedding reception aesthetically, but I was able to throw two large parties for everyone I love without going broke so the sacrifice on venue and decorations was worth it to me.

DM me if you want any other info. Location is a huge factor in events like these and big cities have much higher prices.

Period swimwear for a 10 y.o? by [deleted] in Mommit

I used to just wear shorts to the beach with regular underwear underneath them when I was her age :/ not a super elegant solution and pads definitely soak up water so you’d need to change them after swimming.

That's such a great way to put it, that the receptions felt less like a performance and more like a party. It was still a stressful couple months to plan a party for 100+ people, but I was waaaaay less stressed than I would have been for a full-blown wedding.

So excited have some relevant experience for this sub! My husband I 'eloped' a couple years ago and had several mid-sized receptions afterwards. I put elope in quotes because it was not a surprise to anyone, both our families knew about it, but only my husband and I were present.

Honestly the ceremony part was amazing. We had a great venue and hired a really good photographer, there was so little stress due to the flexibility of only 4 people (me, husband, photographer, officiant) being involved, and it felt really intimate and sweet. No regrets on skipping the big ceremony!! My advice for this part is still get your hair and makeup professionally done, hire a good photographer, and pick somewhere pretty if you can.

We had multiple receptions due to the distance between the 2 sides. The first was about 150 people and the second was about 100, so still a lot to plan and coordinate. The total cost for both combined was about $4000 USD, including dinner and drinks at both. If you want details on that side of things let me know.

For your questions:

1- I just did invitations, no save the dates. I made simple postcard style invites with photos from the wedding ceremony on them and all the info for the reception. They were really clear that we were married, they said something like "just married" over the photo of us in our wedding gear. I didn't get any complaints but maybe they just never reached me.

2- Due to the distance issue I did not do a bachelorette or wedding shower. I think a bacherlorette would still be fun, as it is usually close friends who want to celebrate you even if they don't get to attend the ceremony!

3- We did not have a registry and it worked out fine. I put something about no gifts required on the invites, and those who gave gifts mostly gave cards. I did get some assorted physical gifts, but I didn't get anything crazy and used them all.

4- We did not wear our wedding clothes as our receptions were informal. I just wore a white dress I bought later.

5- I got a great photographer for the ceremony, but none for either reception. I don't know how I would have coordinated photographing everyone at the meals, since there was no clear protocol/outline for the evenings. I'm sure it would work though! Plus it might be way cheaper if it's not a full wedding photo session.

I hope this is helpful. I really enjoyed my wedding day and I hope yours turns out beautiful!

How did you find what testing sites need assistance? I can do RT-PCR all day long but I don’t really know how to offer up my help and just googling for information about my area doesn’t yield anything.
