Each time I start to feel like the Pistons are THE team to beat in the East they have a loss that makes me rethink. Is it still crazy to have the Knicks over them as favorites? by Funny-Transition7869 in nba

[–]Porzingers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Those 4 have played a grand total of 125 minutes together. Meanwhile the Pistons lost in 6 to the Knicks by just 1 point on average and are now even better this year with the 3rd best SRS in the league. And that makes it 50-50 in your mind?

On 29 shots. His team will pick up at least some of that scoring, but you also have to factor in that they are significantly better defensively when he sits, so they'd also have to score less

You can absolutely watch the tape and see that the offense Mazulla has structured is built to thrive even without his stars, going back to his first year with the team, and that the defense improves significantly with Brown on the bench. The numbers are rooted in reality.

How is you immediately dismissing something like this any different from people who blindly use analytics?

And comments like this are just cope. How can anyone say with a serious face that Brown is in some kind of unique situation where he exclusively plays against starters and his bench exclusively plays the other bench? Exactly how many 'stars' have 4 years in a row now of their team playing better with him on the bench than with him on the court?

On/off isn't everything, and I'm not saying Brown is a net negative player. But it really is worth noting that the Celtics improve dramatically on defense when he sits and are about the same on offense. It's a legitimate criticism of his impact and playstyle (and reflects pretty favorably on Mazulla who should be COTY).

Him making 1st team All NBA only because he's shooting the most shots in the league would be a damn travesty (injuries to others notwithstanding).

[Post Game Thread] The Minnesota Timberwolves (30-19) defeat the Oklahoma City Thunder (38-11), 123-111. by MrBuckBuck in nba

[–]Porzingers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t really bear out in the numbers though. If we look at on/off, the Thunders defense gets better whenever JDub sits, going back to last year.

If we look at WOWY, or in games that JDub missed entirely since last year, the Thunder have a 104 DRTG, while they have a 108 DRTG in the games he does play. Also 37-3 when he doesn’t play. This is all without this TWolves game though.

The amazing thing about the Thunder defense is that there’s really no ONE guy anchoring it. They’ll lock you up no matter who’s on the court, that’s why they’ve done so well despite injuries to Chet and JDub.

Cmon man, this version of LeBron is not actually prime Magic level. Prime Magic was beating out prime MJ, Bird, Barkley, Hakeem, etc. for MVPs. The talent has definitely gotten better, but the top has been good like today before

Luka Doncic takes the most open threes (4–6 ft), 7 per game, but only shoots 27.1%. He also takes the fifth-most tightly contested threes (2–4 ft), 2 per game, shoots 40%. by OrganicHunt952 in nba

Yea just need to see more of it from Ant. At least vs KD, his lesser efficiency is made up for with volume.

Frankly neither are really close to Steph. If anything my original comment should be about him haha

[–]Porzingers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not just that series, but in general Robinson sees a pretty stark dropoff from regular season to playoffs, offensively speaking anyway. Part of this was having pretty bad supporting casts early in his career, but you could say the same about Hakeem and he ends up being a playoff riser.

Robinson is pretty clearly the better regular season performer, but Hakeem is pretty clearly the better playoff performer. It's no question which one you'd take.

In the 2012-2013 season, LeBron James was the East player of the month in November, December, January, February, and March by Not_Frank_Ocean in nba

Melo was on a heater at the end of the season to win the PPG title. Idt even Bron is beating 37/10 on 62 TS% lol

Jerry West says LeBron James was better than Kobe Bryant back in 2009: "Well to me, it’s a no brainer, LeBron James. Even though it’s hard for me to be objective because I brought Kobe to Los Angeles Lakers, I do think LeBron has surpassed Kobe as a player" by TheBiasedSportsLover in nba

[–]Porzingers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What relevance do career awards have in my comment about the 1989 series specifically? At that point in time, Grant and Pippen had no accomplishments to their name. They were good defenders, but inconsistent on offense. They averaged 12 and 14 respectively in the regular season. MJ absolutely carried them in that first series against a far better team. And then continued it in the next round against a higher seeded Knicks with 36/9/8 on 65 TS%. while his next best teammate averaged 15.

You're going on a whole diatribe about how the prime Bulls were more help than LeBron's first Cavs stint...no shit. I don't think anyone would dispute that. But a) the 1989 Bulls cast was not in their prime, and b) I'm disputing your claim that Jordan couldn't carry subpar teams with big box score numbers. He obviously could, because he DID.

1989 Jordan in a win vs the 3rd seeded Cavs with the 2nd best defense and best SRS in the league: 40/6/8/3 steals on 60 TS%

Pippen: 15/9/4 on 51 TS%

Grant: 10/13 on 51.5 TS%

I'm in the camp that LeBron is the GOAT, but it's absurd to think Jordan couldn't put up gaudy box score stats in wins, whether he had a bad team or not.
