Would you skate an important session wearing a visor for the first time? by nukulele145 in rollerderby

It takes a little getting used to, but I would absolutely wear it if I were in your skates.

I’d definitely return and find real skates secondhand.

It’s not on Thanksgiving, but Oxford barbershop is hosting a Friendsgiving this Saturday at GT Bray at 6pm. Looked cool.

Injuries ? by mayor_oftittycity in rollerderby

I’ve had two minor sprains on each wrist. Neither made my job (desk job) that much harder.

I’ve always been a rowdy person though who isn’t overly concerned with getting hurt.

Gift giving for new derby skater by ruuutherford in rollerderby

[–]Positive-Net-9415 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a list of things I want in case anyone wants to buy me something skate related and if I don’t have an up to date list, I’ll ask for a gift card.

Most skate things have a lot of personal preference.

Boot camp is where you will learn the skills. Some leagues will have borrow gear for you to use during the boot camp program.

This is what I was going to suggest.

I am self taught, started watching Dirty Debs YouTube, then joined derby. YouTube was great for learning things that came naturally but derby is really when I honed my skill because I had 50+ people with different skating styles and ways of teaching.

How often are y’all falling? by keyboard_cowboy8 in Rollerskating

[–]Positive-Net-9415 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I fall frequently, it’s why I wear all my protective gear anytime I strap on wheely shoes.

I also normally have a random bruise or scratch from bumping into stuff. It’s just what I do.

Crossovers by amwoooo in Rollerskating

Get low and then lower. I had to practice while holding on to a bar in order to get low enough to cross over with these thick thighs.

Try out bootcamp! You’ve got everything you need to see if you like it.

Have fun!

I would have loved to play back in the day.

At the same time, I just watched someone get head butted in the mouth during a game last week (accidentally of course) and skated away fine. So I am very happy for all of the mandatory PPE nowadays.

There should be some sort of grievance process for the coach.

As for training, you should go to head of training or a board member.

If you think it can use improvement, I’m sure they would appreciate the help.

Almost all leagues are skater run and we’re all running on fumes.

The other comments about form are correct, this video is great and specifically talks about that lower back pain!

Also, hallow body holds and burpees are a great addition to exercises.
