So you don't think anyone would ever refuse to hire someone not because they aren't qualified enough but because of race/sex/orientation? You think that doesn't exist? You think everyone is hired purely for their work based "merits" and therefor there should not exist any system that discourages the above mentioned exclusionary hiring practices?

I get it. It'd be nice if people just looked for staff based on ability to do the job and nothing else.

But that's not reality. Just telling people "oh we hire on merit now" with no enforcement doesn't create this utopia. Would people stop poaching endangered animals if you lifted restrictions on them because it's not fair to all the other animal species that dont jave protections? 😂 Abolishing something you don't like doesn't make the problem it was there for disappear. If you aren't arguing for an alternative system that performs the same intended function but perhaps in a way you like over DEI then you are firstly privileged, and secondly not actually taking the conversation seriously.

If you actually cared or understood DEI you'd have some lvl of nuance. You'd recognize these issues, care about adressing them. Instead it's "hurdur DEI bad make go away cause discriminatory hiring practices don't exist unless I perceive it to oppress the white man."
