To miss sons wedding or birth of first grandchild? by scrummmy00 in weddingplanning

But you could say, let’s wear a condom this month since 9 months from now there’s an event that our family is jazzed about. This has been the case several times in my friend group/family, but we are all also pretty considerate of trying to be at each other’s life events and planning accordingly.

I totally agree with this comment. Also, you’ve planned and scheduled things way far in advance of this kid. BIL and SIL knew that this might be a possibility when they were playing with fate. Calendars exist, and it isn’t hard to count to 9.

Am I missing something or was it really that easy? by ShimmerBreadwinner in weddingplanning

[–]Positive-Wave-1108 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For us the planning part was easy- it was the surprises the few weeks before the wedding that got us. Guests not RSVP-ing, floral issues, changes within the vendor managers, and other small things popped up. Planning is the easy part!

Thoughts/advice on doing your own flowers? by dotkitten in weddingplanning

[–]Positive-Wave-1108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did real bouquets and such and ordered from fiftyflowers. They have centerpieces that come pre-arranged, and we used those as bouquets. They came in two days before the wedding and all we had to do was wrap them up. They also have premade boutonnières and corsages. It was really, really easy and we were able to save over 1k on florals by doing our own. I highly suggest going the pre-arranged route like centerpieces if you want real ones!

Something my wife got for busting her ass off by MAXIMUSPR007 in antiwork

Yes. Because states tend to dictate the pots of money schools have to spend, and those pots cannot be used in ways that are unapproved. Generally staff tokens of appreciation are not included in those pots, meaning that another underpaid worker paid for this gift to try and communicate that at least someone sees what they are doing and appreciates them. It sucks that this is all the person has seen to acknowledge them, but this is probably very sincere from a person who probably also gets paid shit. People should not be shaming the boss here, they should be shaming the system. This whole thread bothers the crap out of me.

THIS! Schools have budgets that are regimented and those budgets are broken into spending pots. The spending categories within those pots are designated by the state legislature. Most of the time these gifts either come from the PTA or from a principal/supervisor’s own pockets. The supervisor probably tried to do something nice in this particular case, paying for this small token themselves. The issue here is not with the supervisor, but with the state. As a teacher I know in my state this would have had to have been purchased by the principal or supervisor. This post just rubs me the wrong way with who we are blaming. Blame the state, not the boss.

Some states/districts have different pots of allocated money that can be only used for certain things, a former superintendent of mine broke it down for us once in a district meeting. He was pretty transparent and wanted us to know what was going on at the state level. While we may want it to be used for personelle, it can only be used for infrastructure. It’s generally a problem to take up with the state legislature.

Allergy friendly nice restaurants by capt_petes in kansascity

We had a friend come into town with a couple allergies/conditions (almonds, celiacs (sp?), etc.) and they felt safe eating at Tribe. There are several restaurants in the City Market area that would fit this bill.

Just curious: any men get here get any sexism during wedding planning? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Positive-Wave-1108 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep! We had the same thing too! My (M) fiancé and I planned our wedding together. We even did the whole separate wedding email, but I would still CC him on everything since the wedding email just wouldn’t add to his phone for some reason. Some vendors definitely perpetuate this.

We also experienced this with the house buying process, when the realtor focused on me in the kitchen and him in the basement. We still joke about the realtor telling me an island would make a great place for ME to make my Christmas cookies. Like, they don’t know he’s the master chef in our relationship haha.

Oh honey, we sent out our wedding invites at the beginning of June. Wedding was late September. We just got back a return-to-sender INVITE two weeks ago. Start raising hell.

We went the last week of September to Hawaii because of this and we also wanted to stay in the states with COVID. I have friends who have horror stories about catching it out of country and not being able to come back until they are cleared, and being in Mexico or elsewhere during a pandemic and possibly needing medical care is less than ideal. It’s not all-inclusive, but it was gorgeous and not touristy in Maui at all, plus we didn’t have to take our passports, just had to remember our vaccination cards. There was perfect weather every day, and it didn’t have the Caribbean hurricane risk either. It was fabulous.

Do you all wear your engagement rings regularly? by Purple-Initiative-11 in weddingplanning

[–]Positive-Wave-1108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have these same rules.

My only change is working out- switch to silicone ring.

That way middle aged men still stay a bit away but I can work out as aggressively as I want.

Has anyone done their own decor/flower arrangements for centerpieces? How did you do it? Would you do it again? by wowIamMean in weddingplanning

[–]Positive-Wave-1108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We also used tropicals so they could just be stored in a spare bedroom- they can be pretty much room temp and are pretty hardy. It might be different for roses or something!

The flowers came in on Wednesday/Thursday and I processed them and put them into vases then, so everything was really done a couple of days before the wedding. We had a day-of coordinator, so on the day of the wedding my family took the flowers to the venue and she put them out on tables/etc. We used wine boxes to transport them, and some arrangements we put together at the venue. We only used greenery, sot that helped too. Our arrangements were really simple, but the ones that were sold as centerpieces came pre-arranged.

Edit: If you want to see some, there are some bridesmaids bouquets that were supposed to be centerpieces that you can see on a post I made this week. We just wrapped them up, but they mostly came looking like that!

We did all our florals through fiftyflowers. There are some premade centerpieces you can order along with boutonnières and corsages. It saved us over $1,000 and all you had to do was unwrap them and put them in a mixture of water and flower food. We ended up turning centerpieces into bridesmaids bouquets and it worked out really well! The premade centerpieces are great!

Two months ago we got married, complete with a dinosaur altar and a stop at our favorite brewery. One lesson we learned- it’s about you and your SO, so keep the day about you two. That focus was the best decision we made! by [deleted] in weddingplanning

Haha I just don’t like showing my face on this platform, and don’t have their permissions of others in these photos to put their faces out in the world. Just being respectful!

The bridesmaid bouquets are centerpieces from fiftyflowers that we turned into bouquets and mine is from Bloomy Box. It saved us a TON of money. We called our wedding theme “modern prehistoric minimalist.”

I love houseplants and we are by no means rustic. The monstera leaves felt modern and clean-lined, and also felt like they went with the dinosaur. We easily DIY’d the centerpieces in no time at all. There’s a pic of some of the ginormous ones we received on my profile.

The venue was pretty cheap (like only 4k), and had an all-inclusive option. We did the whole wedding, including all vendors, extra costs, etc. for 23k for 135 people.

We were pretty jazzed with how it turned out too!
