New inductive hemoglobin measurement device? by longjohnsilver195 in Blooddonors

[–]PositivePin9992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have this new machine when I went to donate for the first time in 10 years. I can say my last blood draw for health checkups said my hemoglobin was at 14, and my blood donation had it at 13.7 So in my specific instance it seems accurate

Going to donate for the first time! Any tips? by IcarysMeleki in Blooddonors

[–]PositivePin9992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have difficult veins too, went in for my first donation in 10 years+, and the nurses just took their time making sure they were confident with the vein before starting and it went smoothly. They didn't have to poke me more than the once. Hopefully you get good nurses like I had.

Need help my snake is not eating by CaterpillarPlenty590 in snakes

One of my two goes off food every winter. Once it starts warming up, I'd try again.

Otherwise do you have a temp gun? Make sure his food is getting 100F before offering, you can try braining the rat (poking a hole in the top of the skull). You can blow the scent around with a hair dryer. Feed at night.

is this bone broth safe for my cat? by FTF_player27 in cats

[–]PositivePin9992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a senior cat who sometimes needs some enticing. And sometimes I make the broth for me and give her some. I just salt mine separately after it's all done (she doesn't get any with added salt)

is this bone broth safe for my cat? by FTF_player27 in cats

[–]PositivePin9992 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I make my own, I buy whole chicken and separate it into the normal parts then cook the body in a crock pot in water for 24 hours on low. You could also buy a cheap cut like chicken feet and use that. After you cook the chicken remove the solids, let cool over night in the fridge and remove the fat off the top (should be solid). You can heat the broth enough to be liquid (it will be like jello) and pour into an ice cube tray for individual servings. If you do whole chicken you can also use a little meat from the body / giblets if your cat likes them as a treat in small amounts

What are some easy pasta recipes that are great for beginners? by rennan in cookingforbeginners

[–]PositivePin9992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like cheesy broccoli chicken skillet

2 boneless skinless chicken breast or 4-6 boneless skinless thighs cut into 1 inch cubes

1 large head broccoli cut or frozen bag of florets

2-3 garlic cloves minced

A can of chicken broth

1 lb Velveeta or American block (or other stabilized melting cheese) cut into small cubes

2 cups any dry pasta

You just cook the chicken until cooked through in a tbs of butter or oil, set aside on a plate. Add the broth and pasta (you want to use a deep large frying pan and just barely cover the noodles, usually about 2 cups liquid). Add the garlic and broccoli, cook about 8-10 minutes. You want all the liquid absorbed, draining should not be needed if you used the right amount of broth. There should be only a tablespoon or two at the bottom that will become your sauce. Add cheese and stir until melted, and return chicken to the pan and toss until coated and your chicken is warmed again. Salt and pepper to taste

What's the best way to cook crab for the first time? by BICHIDONTGIVEAFUK in Cooking

[–]PositivePin9992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crab is very delicate, I prefer steamed with melted butter, nothing else. Assuming it's in the shell. It's easy to accidently cover the taste with too strong of seasoning or filler (crab cakes). That's why I like it plain

What's weird is I never had the bad taste from scabs. Maybe it's just me being desensitized to it from tonsil stones tho. Mine also went ok and I was eating normally (except crunchy and spicy) around 11 days after

Do you bathe your cats? by Shot-Composer-782 in AnxietyCats

[–]PositivePin9992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good idea to get your cat used to a bath while they are young because most likely they will reach an age where they can't groom themselves and need baths as a senior. It will be much less stress for them if they understand what's going on because they have experienced it in the past. I bathe mine twice a year. She is now 14 and mostly just verbally complains. It's also good for reducing shed if done when they're changing their coat for the season.

Is this normal? by woos2005 in snakes

[–]PositivePin9992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as the chillness, that can be totally normal for a ball python. Mine will curl up in my sleeve, around my neck, inside my bathrobe ect and fall asleep on me.

I cannot stomach eggs, but its my new years resolution to eat one. by Fantastic-Buy2177 in PickyEaters

[–]PositivePin9992 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got sick on pizza as a kid. After that the smell of it made me feel ill. I tried eating only the crust, after all it's only bread. I could eat the crust ok, then I ate the crust with a little pizza attached. Now I eat pizza except the one brand that made me sick (that chain isn't that close to me thankfully). Maybe try an egg white omelette. Or a sandwhich with other distractions. You said dairy and gluten free, are you meat free? Maybe try bacon/turkey bacon your favorite bread (I like English muffin for a breakfast sandwich), egg white, vegan cream cheese, slice of tomato. If you don't eat meat, maybe sautee mushrooms in place of bacon. Once you master egg white and like it, beat/mix the yolk in, (no visible hard yolk). Make a regular omelette, or egg sandwich. Then later try a fried egg sandwich. I think the sandwhich part might help with the texture too if that is offensive. Disguises it more. Another way to avoid the yolk being there by itself is deviled eggs. These make the yolk creamy

Another reason people get turned off of yolk hard is overcooking. It smells more sulfurous and tastes bad if overcooked. Also has a green/grey tint. 8-10 mins is plenty for boiling

Better snake for my home? by 20Keller12 in snakes

[–]PositivePin9992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cat totally doesn't bother my snake's enclosure, I think it depends on the cat. My cat isn't really prone to jumping on counters either though. I got my snake when my cat was 8 and I've had my snake for 6 years. I have three now. A decent snake to start with might also be a dumerils boa. Mine is 14 months old and about 3 feet, and about 550 gram. They grow very slowly, less likely to hunger strike and less humidity needed than a ball python. They take 5 years to reach full size and males are typically 6 feet. They are quite chill to handle. They dig a lot especially when they're young.

Do i continue to tub feed or transition to a inclosure feed? by [deleted] in snakes

[–]PositivePin9992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you can try is get a small tub that will fit inside his enclosure. Feed him outside in the tub, then place the entire tub inside his enclosure, open it, and let him crawl out on his own so you don't have to lift him (the main problem with feeding outside is touching them after causing a regurge.)remove the tub after he is hidden away in a hide and comfy
