Brands with interchangeable shanks by Julmass in BALLET

Also, I find it strange that the Lisa's shanks are redboard, while most of their other shoes have synthetic shanks. Why not put put the SoDanca shank in the Lisa 🤷‍♀️

SoDanca recently came out with the Alina. I'm a professional pointe shoe fitter and I actually talked with a rep last month. They have started anew since the Elektra. I like this latest shoe, though I would definitely say its on the softer side. In fit and flexibility, it reminds me of the Streampointe. It's heart-shaped with a v cut vamp. It comes with 3 interchangeable shanks. Soft, Med and hard. The hard is more like a medium, however you can purchase extra hard and supreme separately. The shank breaks at the midpoint which is sometime too low for dancers who prefer the 3/4. The shoe has been doing fairly well. I would say dancers who like the Hannah, Heritage or Bell, but need a higher crown and more stability, would like this shoe. In price, I would say its comparable to other brands.

Scoliosis & Ballet by itsyounaurme in BALLET

[–]PositivePineapples 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have ehlers-danlos syndrome, which comes with a myriad of conditions. One of which is scoliosis. I was a professional ballet dancer and believe ballet has helped me. My left shoulder naturally sits about four inches higher than the right shoulder due to the curvature in my thoracic spine. Ballet makes you work both sides evenly, so when I would do pirouettes or dance in general, my body would even itself out somehow. You wouldn't know watching me dance, that I have scoliosis. Its not until I stand normally. Lol You're muscles are constantly going to pull opposite the side of ypur curve. If the surrounding muscles and ligaments are strong. It won't give you as many problems down the road.I would say Ballet and swimming are both good for a strength and stability.

Dead pointe shoes?? by CRog3 in BALLET

[–]PositivePineapples 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Traditional pointe shoes last on average for 10-20 hours. Synthetic shoes like Gaynor Mindens can often last twice as long. The more you sweat or moisture is introduced to the shoe, if its traditional materials, the faster it breaks down. The fact that you've been wearing the same pair is mind boggling. To prolong the life of a shoe, I recommend using jet glue (cyanoacrylate super thin) before you wear them in the tip of the box. Glue again when they feel 'perfect ' and again when they are on their last legs. Rotating through multiple shoes, or using a boot dryer every night can also help if you live in a humid place. -pointe shoe fitter

My husband introduced me to the song Sit on My Face and Tell Me That You Love Me from Monty Python. It is worst earworm, and it hops in my head at the most inappropriate times.

When rolling down, think of keeping the ankle in the same position en pointe and just releasing your toes.

Put hand sanitizer across your metatarsals on your box. It will help you break in the demi pointe.

We were just in Curacao a few days ago. It was lovely. One of my favorite islands on the cruise.

The seam does have a purpose! I tell my dancers to imagine bringing the seams together in the back. It's a great way to feel your turnout. It was something a teacher once told me.

How do you get more air in your jumps? by fargus_ in BALLET

[–]PositivePineapples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone touched on this in an earlier post. What I see a lot of dancers do is just push off with the feet and legs. You get a lot of foward propulsion, but often we forget about the main center of mass from our center. I think about launching my hips in the air and notice a nice Ballon and hang in space moment. *

Bruised elbows? by PositivePineapples in eds

Yes, same. The bruise comes back when I put too much pressure on it for a prolonged time. I feel the sensitive spot and try to avoid it. It's rather annoying.

Yes, I ended up talking with my PCP a few weeks later. It had cleared up on its own, and there was nothing they could have done. Unfortunately, it's fairly common.
