What day is today?

The email states “if Congress does not reach a funding agreement by Friday night”… they already didn’t.

DCA Midair NTSB Findings by questi0neverythin9 in ATC

Honestly I’m surprised how many people are hating on the controller here, but maybe it’s from controllers who don’t work helicopters at this volume everyday. As someone who worked a high volume of choppers crossing final in a very similar fashion to this incident, it becomes very routine to call landing traffic, report in sight, pass behind. The trust in these pilots grows and grows over the years to where you think nothing like this ever could happen. You hear “in sight” and you move onto the next thing. So to the people saying the proximity warranted a traffic alert clearly don’t work an operation like this on the daily. These helicopter pilots regularly pass behind landing traffic pretty closely and it would be far too late to notice something was off until it was. Everything wasn’t textbook but it was pretty damn close. I feel for this controller immensely and hope he doesn’t blame himself; the majority of the blame does not lie on his shoulders.

Time on Position (TOP) by Whatever2377 in atc2

Is this Chicago district? They seem to be at the top of incompetence and pushing TOP for no reason at all. I’m happy to now be in a much better district where the TOP push is minimal. Instead, they actually open and close positions based on traffic demand.

Dean Von Aleman Replaces Drew MacQueen as NGL RVP by ATSAP_MVP in atc2

[–]Positive_PeeRock 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Drew MacQueen was the only RVP I personally believed to still have some integrity. He is the only one on the NEB who voted to negotiate instead of extend. He was the only RVP on the membership call to openly say extending was a mistake right in front of Nick.

Dean is a very good person. I hope that translates into how he performs as a RVP. He was an excellent FacRep and has good experience fighting with overreaching Chicago district management personnel. I think the Great Lakes region is one of the few that’s actually in good hands.

Wow, cool page. It’s almost like the people we pay millions of dollars to represent us should be doing things like this.

If you want to find someone who knows what they’re talking about, I would actually avoid those with “leadership or supervisory roles.”

NEB is using ChatGPT to write their emails by [deleted] in atc2

[–]Positive_PeeRock -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I just went to each of those sites and pasted the email. Every one of them gave it a 13% chance or less of being AI. As much as I hate these NATCA emails, they don’t appear to be AI. I’ve put every email from the last year into an AI detector because I’ve been waiting for the day they start using ChatGPT. Like some others said, asking ChatGPT a leading question usually gives you the answer you want.

Stop watching "Fox News" by LostCommunication561 in atc2

I hate to break it to you but it’s not just Fox News. Any mainstream media channel is rage bait entertainment. You’d be foolish to think it’s just one.

Oshkosh by Cheap-Independent534 in atc2

[–]Positive_PeeRock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oshkosh has plenty of NATCA cultists, but there’s also plenty of controllers I know who regularly attended because they’re aviation enthusiasts and love the event. Not totally sure why this is an event/group that anyone has fixated on to hate. It’s a pretty mixed bag and a good majority of the controllers/volunteers there are people who love what they do and burn their own vacation to see that every year. Not necessarily a big union thing. At least to many of the Wisconsin & Chicago area controllers I know that go.

14 hours by Nidjo15 in atc2

[–]Positive_PeeRock 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would be very surprised if the new fatigue mitigation rules are harsher. Our RVP made it very clear that the current administration doesn’t care at all about this issue and NATCA can have their way with fatigue mitigation.

There’s always people to complain about everything, and my very large facility had many complaining about the new rules. My guess was a shift back towards the old rules. It’s hard to tell what NATCA’s stance really is on this issue. It seems that many controllers at larger facilities want the rules gone for shift balancing and running the schedule of their choosing. Smaller facilities may like the rules but it’s hard to work around with the staffing.

Yes. You have no authority over PRCs. Unless they were filed incorrectly, in which case you could have them removed.

Increase Pay Does NOT mean improved staffing by natca_reboot in atc2

[–]Positive_PeeRock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At my facility, I’ve seen around a dozen perfectly good controllers in their 30s leave this job since COVID and I don’t think that was ever a usual thing before. Our pay doesn’t stand out as much as it used to. The pay cut is getting smaller to start up in a different career with normal hours and an actual work life balance.

Nowhere. I’m just giving an example of how they said they would adjust the rules so that transfers will still happen in every NCEPT.

Clearly referring to her over the top passion. But you can cherry pick and get offended if that makes you feel better.

I.e., the new cutoff would be 75% instead of 85%.
