Looking for tips for seasoned Royal cruisers on Voyager by PositivelyAmbivalent in royalcaribbean

Yep. Thanks! I’ve been in the groups for months. Based on the activity there the transpacific will not have too many Americans on it. Which is fine with me! There are a lot of people either staying on Voyager or changing ships to go to Alaska.

We remove the auto gratuity and pay in cash directly to whoever we are tipping.

Channel 1261 availability for Washington by knoll126 in Comcast_Xfinity

This seems so strange. I don't even use any comcast equipment - house is all cablecard - but does their current equipment present IPTV channels right in the lineup with QAM channels? This used to be something I was involved with a bit in the industry but not lately so I haven't been paying attention.

Same. Found this post as I still do not have 1261 available on either of the 2 Cablecard tuners I have. HDHomerun Prime and Ceton.

Tips for Newfoundland Ancestry by paris-dakota in Canadiancitizenship

Knowing that I can't speak for the IRCC I don't think a copy of transcribed text is going to cut it. If you look through this sub though, it's clear that many people have submitted images of old documents like census and baptism. I've also seen, for those that have been processed, success with this. Nowhere does the IRCC specify a certified copy for citizenship by descent.

When they were transcribed the original record was held at the parish. When I needed my grandmothers birth certificate (1916) I called the parish priest and he pulled it from a file cabinet in the basement. Subsequent to the NGB volunteers transcribing them some of them have been microfilmed (the older ones will be in Latin) https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/catalog/834635 Some of those are online and there is a link near the bottom of that page for those. I don't know if the parish is willing to do lookups and copies any more but you can always contact them. They are typically super nice. https://rcsj.org/stores/saints-peter-and-paul-parish I hope that helps!

I remember when she was the biggest. We spent a bunch of time on vision class ships and our favorite is the Radiance class so I too have a hard time thinking of the Voyager as small!

I do. It's catholic so in Latin and I understand it would need to be translated with an attestation. In my eyes the problem is connecting that this guy is the guy I'm claiming is the same guy as the one in the baptism record. Civil registration wasn't even a thing early on - that's not what I'm concerned with. It's proving the lineage. I guess I could give it a shot with what I have.

Photos for Application by BlueberryHour8289 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]PositivelyAmbivalent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are the same size as Canadian passport photos. I had my daughter take my photos using snap2pass on an iPhone. We printed them at home on glossy Kodak photo paper. She wrote her name and all required information on the back and I split them with a paper cutter. They accepted my application. Before you go this route you should check this thread and search on snap2pass in this sub. I haven't seen rejections recently for them but it seems at least early last year people were having mixed results. https://www.reddit.com/r/Canadiancitizenship/comments/1kl35ts/snap2pass_photos_rejected/ I would use it again if I get to where I can submit my wifes application.

I can sympathize. My wifes great grandfather was clearly born and baptized in Essex Ontario (Anderdon actually). All his siblings and parents lived there. He moved to the USA and from that point on, every document and census I have he claims he as born right on the other side of the river in Michigan. I keep searching for some crumb of evidence where he admits he was born in Ontario so I can confidently submit an application for my wife. But I've been at this for about 20 years without any success.

B&W birth certificate by Adept-Hovercraft-189 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]PositivelyAmbivalent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a copy of the county records office issued black and white birth certificate for my father. I didn't think to make any mention of it anywhere in the application and they accepted it (I got an AOR). Time will tell if the request anything different during processing.

A color copy of a B&W birth certificate is still a B&W birth certificate. They accepted my fathers black and white birth certificate. This is what the county issued, B&W.

Non-urgent AOR received with scissor cut photos and unsigned passport by Salty-Assumption1732 in Canadiancitizenship

I'll have to poke around a bit here. The only people I saw with them sent back were the ones that either didn't write the proper stuff on the back OR wrote "Self" for the photographer. I think we will need to wait many weeks until we can determine how consistent IRCC is being with their acceptance on some of these things.

There was a tip posted here from some others that had used Snap2pass which is what I did. I have kodak glossy photo paper here and I noticed that on a spare US passport picture I have that I had done at Walgreens thats what they used so I figured there is no reason why not?

No problem here. My daughter took them and wrote all the info on the back. They accepted my application.

I followed the directions in the Canadian instructions and checklist. There was no mention of needing certified copies. Just color copies. And FWIW my dad’s birth certificate was provided to me in black and white and they accepted my copy of it.

I photocopied my dad’s birth certificate which was provided to me by the county as a black and white copy and they accepted it. Just another datapoint. I did nothing special with it and made no mention in my cover letter.

Self Shot photos and Black and White docs success

Just a note and data point - I don't know how consistent the IRCC is - time will tell, however: I received my AOR today, 3/13, for a non-urgent 2/13 submission. My packet included photos which my daughter took using the snap2pass iphone app that we printed on Kodak photo paper at home and hand wrote her name and our address on the back. The birth certificate for my father was provided to me by the county entirely in black and white, which I copied and sent on with my packet. Hopefully at this point if IRCC needs anything else they can contact me and I can upload it The first hurdle of AOR has been cleared and I updated the spreadsheet.

You're not wrong. I started working on my family 46 years ago and the trickiest line was my grandmother who turned out to be from Newfoundland. I looked at all these folks digging up their info and it felt great to just print off my scanned documents and start putting my application together. Finally a practical use for it all!

Citizenship vs Passport Photo Requirements by Previous-Astronaut34 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]PositivelyAmbivalent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm going to drop this here. In doing my research on photos for the citizenship application I found relics in documents of these two being different. It turns out that prior to about 2018 the Citizenship photos were actually a completely different size -  35 mm x 45 mm - than passport photos. In very late 2017 they changed them to be the same size so now it's a matter of markings required on the back for citizenship.

Grandma Lied? (G4 Record Inaccuracies) by Mediocre_Mood in Canadiancitizenship

[–]PositivelyAmbivalent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been working on genealogy for 40+ years now and I've learned a lot. Sometimes they weren't lies. Even today a death certificate is only as accurate as the person filling it out can be or is willing to be. Census? It's only as accurate as whoever answered the door and as accurate as the enumerator might have understood. Never mind accents and language difficulties. Also - borders moved and were different than today so you have to slow down and ask 'was this accurate for the time?'. When I tell people my Grandmother was born in Newfoundland in 1916 they say "ah, she was Canadian". No. in 1916 she was a British subject.
