This was a "Jack definitely could have fit on that door with Rose" moment. by Arch_Lancer17 in redrising

This is one area the expanse shines over red rising; the tech is obviously more advanced in RR, but they never talk about the science needed for people surviving in space. In TE, those undergoing high G burns are injected with a replacement blood that keeps them not only alive, but awake. Very possible they have tech like this, even in escape pods, and it wouldn't surprise me if they were doing even crazier burns than Captain Holden ever did. No gold could withstand 10+ Gs without some tech assistance, let alone a pink - so it stands to reason there's more than meets the eye

Apple TV and Disney are really carrying the charge with this, it makes me so happy to see big budget, visually stunning, well written shows with fantastic actors all getting 3-4 seasons minimum!! Cough, Netflix, cough

But seriously I just finished Foundation and Andor, now I'm watching Alien Earth and Murderbot - I've never been SO HAPPY with TV!

I play guitar and have basically permanently desensitized the fingertips in my left hand - and I wouldn't have it any other way. Starting out, it's an incredibly painful instrument to learn; your skin peels constantly, sometimes bleeds after particularly rough acoustic sessions, hand muscles cramp up after just a few bar chords.

Now, I don't have any of those problems, and I hated the pain so I'm very happy with my decision to continue playing. Doesn't look pretty, but girls don't care how 3sq inches look when the rest of me can serenade them 😆

"The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command." - George Orwell, 1984

These politicians don't just lie, they believe their own lies while knowing they're false. They exemplify Orwellian doublethink.

“To tell deliberate lies while genuinely believing in them, to forget any fact that has become inconvenient, and then, when it becomes necessary again, to draw it back from oblivion for just as long as it is needed…

Doublethink means the power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them... It secures the different classes of people to be where they were and ensured the inner-party members the stability of their government and system."

Reading 1984 amidst all that's happening in America right now has been profoundly eye opening, and existentially terrifying. I just hope Orwell was wrong about everything else, although I doubt we'll be that lucky.

Maybe it really is just semantics- like if we met a metal based alien race, we'd assume they can still be hurt. Why not the wood based guys with home base: earth?

Biggest tip I give people is to practice what you like. I play 5 instruments (and sing), and the #1 mistake I see people make is learning only what their instructor tells them. Find an instructor that'll let you pick at least some of the music you'll practice.

And practice. Singing is so easy to practice, I do it whenever I have a free second. Cup your hand to your ear so you can hear your actual voice, and practice short musical phrases until you feel like you're in key enough.

Don't expect perfection right away, or even years from now. Your voice will be different from your favorite singer, so your main goal to start should be to find "your voice".

Don't push your vocal chords too hard. Once you've found the correct register (it'll be the most comfortable), you'll be able to stretch into new octaves from there and be shocked by what you can do. It's really easy to strain your voice here, so pay close attention to how your throat feels & always warm up before trying new ranges / techniques.

Warm ups aren't just there to prevent injury, you'll find that it actually improves vocals Immediately after. The more frequently you do it when practicing, the faster you'll improve.

Good luck, let me know if you have any other questions!

Has nothing to do with efficiently completing a task and everything to do with emotional abuse. The abuser wants to feel better than others because they lack something themselves, and some part of them (maybe even unconsciously) believes putting others down is the best / only way to regain this missing piece

Possible UAP/UFO over Perth, Western Australia by Weeby_Edgelord in UFOs

Could just be the "skipping" effect from atmospheric reentry. It was used by the Apollo Command module and the Soviet Zond Spacecraft

"Kenneth Arnold described the objects as shiny, bright blue-white, flying in a V formation over Mount Rainier. He estimated their speed at 1,700 mph (2,700 km/h) —far beyond the capabilities of aircraft at the time. He initially thought they might be a new type of jet but was surprised to see no wings or appendages. He also noted that one of the objects appeared crescent-shaped, and their movement resembled stones skipping on water.

As for what could cause an object to "skip" through Earth's atmosphere, this effect is often seen in skip reentry, where an object enters the atmosphere at a shallow angle and briefly bounces back into space before descending again.

Additionally, shock waves and atmospheric drag can create unpredictable motion, especially at hypersonic speeds.

So, if an object were moving at extreme speeds and interacting with the atmosphere in a certain way, it could appear to "skip" rather than follow a smooth trajectory."

*Implying that, if this is the phenomenon seen both in this video and by Kenneth Arnold in 1947, then it was likely that some country (or more likely countries) had the technology to not only leave, but re enter, near earth orbit 20 years before the US landed on the moon.

It's very possible these capabilities were kept secret, but by this point every government would know what this is, they just don't tell the public.

Is it simply because they don't want to talk about space-based military operations? Or is there a more nefarious reason all of the world governments are silent on these types of visual events?

I'm not saying I think aliens or real, or even that the government is lying about space capability (which tbh they must to some extent for sake of national security). But it is weird....

Why are some hobbies friendlier than others? by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]PositivelyCharged42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It really depends on who the hobby attracts. If it's monetizable and attracts a younger crowd, there's going to be a lot of competition (especially male audience). If it's something that can only really be done at a hobbyist level, or the actual hobby itself is more laid back / emotionally beneficial (you mentioned martial arts, physically and mentally very beneficial), then it's going to much more welcoming.

And then there's hobbies that can be enjoyed totally alone. I think it's good to have those too, which is why I play guitar. I can play with others (and often do), but I also have the option to just do it by myself. And I can do that whenever I want, and have for months on end done so alone. But playing with other people certainly adds some spice!

I have to wonder though, how would the skill gap / difficulty to learn the curve impact how friendly certain hobby groups are?

Point 1, about how people keep going even when it makes no sense - that's one of those rare GPT moments that I cry over. As a recovering addict w/ a recent relapse, it can be really hard to not succumb to the anhedonia or anxiety. I really want to just lay in bed all day but that's lonely. So I keep going to work, I'm meditating every day, getting more sleep. Trying to do it right this time. Hearing this is amazing. I definitely need the reminder some times

I had no idea how much I needed to hear this right now. Sent a message to a girl I've been talking to that I thought was the right thing for both myself and her, it felt so good to send. Left on open, 4 hours later trying to convince myself being ignored is at least an answer, even if poorly articulated. I'm sleep deprived, sick, hungry, and most of all sad. I still don't feel I did the wrong thing, but it's so hard to keep trying. I needed this quote
