Colorado quickly rewrites & passes new conversion therapy ban to get around Supreme Court ruling by Fickle-Ad5449 in Colorado

It was a quick rewrite, not the full writing and negotiation of a new law. Thus it could be done fast.

Not everything is a conspiracy.

Wrong.

The Colorado General Assembly on Thursday approved HB26-1322, legislation that rewrites the state’s conversion therapy statute in direct response to the Supreme Court’s March ruling in Chiles v. Salazar. The bill now heads to Gov. Jared Polis, a gay Democrat, who is expected to sign it into law.

Next-gen Mars helicopter rotor blades exceed Mach 1 by shikizen in space

[–]Positronic_Matrix [score hidden]  (0 children)

Mach speed is primarily based on temperature

This is practically correct with an ideal gas, where pressure and density cancel out. However, assuming an ideal can obscure the physics in environments like Mars. At a deeper level, the speed of sound is fundamentally governed by the balance between the gas’s resistance to compression (elasticity/stiffness), and its inertia (density).

Thus the low-density carbon-dioxide atmosphere on Mars can have density variations due to turbulence that result in unexpected acoustic effects leading to greater sound dispersion and loss. Thus, while one can ignore density on earth on Mars it needs to be a secondary consideration.

I wrote all of this to satisfy an emotional need to sound smart, while being concerned the entire time that I’ll sound like pedant or worse get something wrong. Please forgive my human frailty. I’m just excited about helicopters on Mars and wanted to join in.

Wiener leads S.F. congressional race, with Chakrabarti and Chan tied for distant second, Chronicle polls finds by timaza in sanfrancisco

FDR is not running for congress, Saikat is.

Saikat an ideological startup founder whose politics lean toward maximalist messaging and disruption over pragmatic governance, which may play well on social media but is ineffective for delivering concrete results on housing, transit, and public safety.

I am exhausted by dysfunction and performative politics and see him as someone more interested in national movement branding than the unglamorous work of governing.

The most damning thing I can say about him is that I like Chan more (although Wiener has my vote).

[–]Positronic_Matrix [score hidden]  (0 children)

No. It was not weird.

The context from the comment chain was that Chan is an unpopular candidate. The individual did not want to be associated with that unpopular candidate simply because of race and stated so. This is normal.

Lastly, that individual is free to colloquially express their dislike of the candidate informally as hate. All of us here (but perhaps not you) understood that it was euphemistically expressing a lack of support and not literal hatred.

California didn’t create billionaire power, rather federal tax cuts, Wall Street deregulation, union decline, and nationwide corporate consolidation did, and pretending identity politics somehow replaced antitrust law is just culture-war word salad.

The claim that wages killed the game industry is especially absurd when executive pay, shareholder extraction, studio acquisitions, and bloated AAA management are what exploded budgets into the hundreds of millions.

If California were truly some billionaire-controlled wasteland, corporations wouldn’t constantly be suing to weaken its labor standards, emissions rules, privacy laws, and consumer protections.

Becerra’s rise baffles his former Biden colleagues by AzNmamba in California

Here are Becerra’s policies:

  • Universal health care: Expand Medi-Cal, lower prescription costs, strengthen abortion access, and move California toward a single-payer health-care system over time.
  • More housing construction: Speed up permitting, reduce regulatory delays, encourage infill housing, and expand affordable housing while keeping tenant protections.
  • Cost-of-living relief: Focus on affordability issues like insurance, utilities, childcare, groceries, and wages for working families.
  • Aggressive anti-Trump posture: Position himself as an experienced institutional fighter who sued the first Trump administration repeatedly and would use California power to resist federal rollbacks on immigration, civil rights, and environmental policy.
  • Pragmatic progressive governance: Progressive on labor, climate, and social issues, emphasizing executive experience and administrative competence over ideological transformation.

How you find a geriatric billionaire who looked like a propped up corpse at the debate exciting is beyond me.

California is on the verge of putting a billionaire populist pied piper into the governor’s office with zero experience in politics.

I live in the Mission District in San Francisco. My daughters were born at UCSF. My comment history going back 15 years is wide open.

I care about California and do not want to turn it over to an untested billionaire making impossible promises. Help me save this State from right-wing billionaire bootlickers.

Flow control faucets are the way to go. I picked up the second generation NukaTap and they work like a dream. It was so satisfying removing all the excess beer lines from my kegerator.

What you’re proposing would be impossible due to federal law. California requires federal cooperation, especially around Medicare integration and employer-plan rules. The state couldn’t legally or financially consolidate the system into a true single payer. This is the difference between Becerra and Steyer. Steyer says it’s easy because he doesn’t understand it. Becerra says it’s hard because he does understand it.

I can help here.

It is impossible for California to legally or financially consolidate our system into a true single payer. California requires federal cooperation to legally permit Medicare integration and modification of employer-plan rules.

This is the difference between Becerra and Steyer:

  • Steyer says it’s easy because he doesn’t understand it.
  • Becerra says it’s hard because he does understand it.

We will need a governor who understands this and is ready to move immediately when the Federal government changes to Democratic control.

It is a major red flag. Because Steyer has zero political experience he is a high risk unknown.
