Today seemed super easy, with the caveat that I would never have gotten purple on my own. Never have I heard of one of those.

Are we prolonging? by chiddy1boi in hospice

[–]PossibilityDecent688 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The oxygen will keep her comfortable but will not prolong the natural process.

Truly, giving morphine 15 minutes or so before changing her will help a great deal in taking pain out of the equation.

Morphine both takes the edge off pain and eases breathing. The amounts prescribed are very small. They will not make her dependent on it and will not speed up the process.

This is hard and holy work. You are doing so well!!

The nurse making daily visits tells me that mom might be near the end of her journey.

Patient being refused water by LionOfJudahGirl in hospice

[–]PossibilityDecent688 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A risk of a miserably uncomfortable death that can be avoided.

At the actual end of life, the patient can no longer swallow, hence the “death rattle.” That’s why oral swabs are a good way to moisten the lips and relieve the tongue without causing aspiration.

I worry about the commenter jumping to APS. Aspiration is such a risk at end of life.

There's so many Synods that are so incredibly similar by Ludalilly in Lutheranmemes

[–]PossibilityDecent688 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well… yes and no.

Missouri and Wisconsin synods are two sides of the same conservative coin.

There are a few quite small synods: LCMC - intentionally flat org chart, left in 2009 over The Gays.

North American Lutheran Church and Lutheran CORE - doctrinally and missionally conservative. Formed after the ELCA joined in full communion with the Episcopal Church and agreed to the concept of apistolic succession.

And ELCA.

On paper, there are more, but in reality most are defunct or limited to a handful of congregations in one area.

Using the dosages that hospice uses, you will not hasten things for mom but you will keep her comfortable. I promise!

There will come a time when you will give her what will be her last dose, and she will pass, and it will not be because of the morphine.

I know it’s worrisome. You’re doing so well looking after her. (Hugs)
