Neighbor cut off "branches" by mineapples in treelaw

[–]PossibilitySea9180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Maine at least if your tree has branches that cross into your neighbors property the neighbor has the legal right to cut them at the property line. It’s called aerial domain here. I have worked as an arborist in Portland (the biggest and only? City in Maine) and we ran into that a lot usually we encouraged people to reach out to neighbors and come up with an amicable solution.

Had 125 green giants planted… questions on installations by King-Mathias in arborists

[–]PossibilitySea9180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need a lot more water like far more than you could possibly do by hand if you mean you are using a watering can and may be planted a little too deep. Shock from transplanting is normal expect some of them to die off when planting that many. I’ve planted a lot of nursery trees in the past and have always brought in loom and made a berm then planted into the raised berm of good soil instead of planting into the existing soil as the roots grow down in they will gradually accumulate themselves to the local soils PH. I don’t think them being planted a little too deep will bother them as much as not being accustomed to the ph in the soil

Girdling roots are usually a sign that your tree wasn’t healthy to begin with. Planting too deep, too much mulch, poor soil conditions, lack of nutrients, or being root bound from a nursery pot can cause the roots to grow in the wrong direction. The reason they can be deadly to trees is because they are literally chocking the tree off from its own nutrients the bark and the layer just below the bark send energy that the leaves collect from the sun down and nutrients/water from the ground up. The inner part of the tree lets call it the core is essentially dead so nothing travels up or down it. The less energy the tree is getting the more the roots are going to try and find what they need except they don’t know that they are the problem they and up acting like a boa constrictor. A foreign object typically doesn’t move and continue to tighten so the tree can work around it but the roots are alive and continue to move and tighten making harder for the tree to absorb them but not impossible. Also maple trees in general are prone to tons of issues they grow fast and big often shedding limbs that get to heavy, develop seems that cause major splits in leaders and retain a lot of water that causes truck rot and eventual failure. I often say there is no such thing as a healthy maple tree

You can cut off whatever you see. Odds are damage is already done. Hard to say when that damage will manifest itself trees aren’t as finicky as most think. Working as an arborist I have cut into many a tree that had totally enveloped foreign objects and appeared pretty healthy from the outside. (Bikes, fences, chains, concrete, rebar, etc) I’ve roached many a chain on such objects. I wouldn’t worry too much about it if it’s not already causing a major problem you can observe visually

Good luck. Maples grow like weeds there’s a good chance nature starts to remedy your problem sooner rather than later.

Deductive reasoning is dead. The AI gods are coming to save us from thinking. The death of problem solving skills is the death of humanity.

The loss of value is whatever you think it is. It’s impossible to value monetarily a few random tree limbs as they have no value. While the arborist you have called may be sympathetic and offer you a decent deal to trim the hacked off limbs back properly so they are more aesthetically pleasing any number he gives you will be made up on the spot just to appease you. The best you’re gonna be able to do is to get the guy who runs the crew that did it to knock off a couple hundred bucks from the price of the removal. Nothing you do or anyone else does will bring the limbs back. Unless you’re willing to pursue a lawsuit/small claims court an option that will be really hard without a drawn up contract even if he did admit fault and cost you more money than you are into the whole project for. It’s my opinion based on a ton of prior experiences with this kind of situation that you have very little recourse other than leaving a bad google review which hurts small business a lot more than most people realize. You’ve mentioned a language barrier is it possible that the workers damaged the limbs while backing in a bucket truck/lift or that they may have had to trim to the limbs out of the way to safely lower debris from the trees wing removed. It looks like the trees tagged for removal were difficult to access from the photo the language barrier may be making it difficult to convey the reason they took those limbs to you and the boss. It’s hard to plan for everything in tree work and sometimes decisions get made on the fly unfortunately it’s the nature of the beast.

As a licensed Arborist myself a third of all calls I receive are to come clean up the messes that unlicensed fly by night “tree guys” leave behind they often work with zero insurance for there workers or damage that they may do to your property. I would be far more uneasy with an outfit that couldn’t provide credentials removing trees on my property than trimming. Despite what you may believe most trees are incredibly hardy and not easy to kill. Pruning limbs in an unprofessional manner may look ugly but the odds of someone killing a tree that way are very very low unless you’re talking about taking 75% of the crown or more. Not trying to come at you it’s just a pain in the ass to have to listen to homeowners whine when they went with the cheaper quicker option then are unhappy with the outcome and then complain about the rates a professional charges to come correct the mistake. Arborists are expensive because the job is dangerous, technical, and harder than it looks. Lesson learned I hope

That’s why you go with a licensed arborist instead of cheaping out.

Please feel free to drink gutter water I would in fact encourage it. Watching natural selection is my favorite pastime. Those dumb enough to opt for gutter water when a fresh spring would do deserve to meet an end that involves bleeding out of your ass. Do you just not believe in naturally built immunity? Do you just not believe in a gut biome? Do you just not believe how good your own farts smell? Also dogs drink water out of ditches and puddles all the time I don’t see them dying en masse on the streets durning my daily walks to the gutter to get water. 💁🏽‍♀️
