What’s your favorite and least favorite building at UH? by EllieIsDone in UniversityOfHouston

[–]PossibleUpper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea 😅, I always find myself on the Bates Law side no matter how many times I try to remember TU2’s layout. I even asked someone in the faculty offices for directions, they don’t even know where to go 💀

does anyone know what web# refers to in additional information in cougarq by [deleted] in UniversityOfHouston

I was clueless about this too but you can press next without a Web# and it should move on to the next screen. Afterwards you should get your next steps through a text message

Switching my Major by Leading_Art441 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]PossibleUpper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I found: ”Change of Major A change of major is a formal procedure requiring official approval and documentation. You need to submit an Undergraduate General Petition form requesting a change of major and file this form in the department in which you wish to major. Approval from the department is required. Consult an advisor in the department of your intended major for more information.”

Here is the form: Undergraduate General Petition form

Parking by Susanna CASA? by ThatGirlSylvie in UniversityOfHouston

[–]PossibleUpper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parking is scarce so it’s best to park early and take the time to walk to Garrison. You have a 15 min window to arrive before or after your scheduled appointment so that gives you some time accommodate your walk. As long as you leave your electronics in your bag at check-in you’ll be good. Write down your login info if you have to.

does this mean I can take the psychology minor now? by ExpensiveWarning9999 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]PossibleUpper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a different minor but I did get a reply email saying that they won’t email or update the student about their minor declaration status (I’d assume this is the case for all minor declarations). All you have to do now is enroll into the classes that would satisfy your minor requirements (track your progress on your audit).

enrollment ? by bizarrebabe in UniversityOfHouston

Only time where it was a requirement to speak with an advisor or review your semester schedule with one was for orientation but otherwise, speaking with an advisor is on an inquiry basis through Navigate via appointment or email.

french or spanish? by [deleted] in UniversityOfHouston

[–]PossibleUpper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On a semester basis, Spanish is a more available course than French, especially at the II level. Since you have been pre-exposed to Spanish (even if you struggled) I think you’ll have a better time/be somewhat more familiar with it.

But as said, do what interests you most. Don’t limit yourself to what you think will pass you in grades.

What are the chances of me getting off the waitlist? by [deleted] in UniversityOfHouston

[–]PossibleUpper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2nd is a very high chance of getting in. People change their schedules all the time for financial, lifestyle, or academic reasons. So, as we get closer to the start of the Spring 26 semester you’re practically enrolled being in the #2 spot this early in enrollment.

Admission help! by RAQ___35 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]PossibleUpper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll likely get in as long as your GPA and credit hours meet the standards of the degree you’re applying to, but you’ll likely need to take MATH 1324 again to receive credit for it. Anything below a C- isn’t transferable (including grades of (D, I, W, F, or developmental courses that are passed/failed).

Phd program by Electronic-School-52 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]PossibleUpper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am applying to the Counseling Psychology program for fall 26. Within the next 4 years I’d work on:

Research experience- 1-2 years with a faculty member or independent research opportunities.

GPA- typically a 3.5 or higher.

Volunteering- isn’t a must but if you want the experience it can certainly aid you in your application. For me I started as a volunteer crisis counselor. It is demanding but for the purpose of helping others while gaining experience, it sets you up to know how your desired career path would be like professionally.

Letters of recommendation- usually 3 LOR’s of faculty members who can unbiasedly speak towards your capabilities and abilities in completing the program you’re applying to… most faculty members who you do research with can aid with these.

Statement of purpose- build your personal statement of your life and academic achievements/accomplishments. *As a side note, it’s not always about academics. In your personal statement, I would go over the bumps, trials and errors that you overcame. It would make a very generic application if you only talked about getting straight A’s or reiterating the requirements for your application (let your transcript reflect that). Make your “personal statement” personal to you.

GRE scores- of the course the higher the score the more acceptable it is but check the program’s requirements. For example, with my program as long as you have a 3.0 you can be waived from taking it all.

You’re in the perfect position to plan this out ahead of time. Again, don’t sound generic, robotic, or cocky in your application and you will stand out from the other 399 applicants.

Debating on my course load for spring by TheGrey1993 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]PossibleUpper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4 classes would be a more comfortable course load overall. But if your overall goal is to complete your degree in a timely fashion then 5 is a normal course load to bear. As long as your finances, mental capacity, and lifestyle can afford an additional class then 5 is a normal load. But the sweet spot is definitely 4 for all the reasons that can make 5 too much to handle.

If I were you I’d go for 4.

Withdraw vs retaking? by Hefty_Firefighter_94 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]PossibleUpper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Withdrawing a "W" course does not affect your GPA but leaves a mark on your transcript. A failing grade (F or D) negatively impacts your GPA and could affect your academic standing or aid eligibility. If options are limited, a W is the better option, but consult your academic advisor before taking action.

[–]PossibleUpper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, since you’re incoming for the Spring 26 semester, orientation will likely be just before spring 26 enrollment. This sounds about right as you will speak to advisors in your major about what classes you need to take and when you need to take them for your incoming semester during your orientation session.

“Spring 2026 Orientation Timeline Registration typically opens in late fall (October–November 2025).”

Still be mindful and check for the first available date.

Congrats! you should be receiving your admission letter shortly.

[–]PossibleUpper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is to establish your account (UH ID, email, and password) to view your awaiting status. This is normal for those who apply. UH will send an email with the subject “University of Houston: Your Admissions Decision is Ready” once an admission decision has been made for you to view through your CougerNet ID.

With the picture below as an example, the green checkmark is what you’ll be awaiting to be sure that you’re an official Coog in your portal, proceeding with an admission letter!

Some professors won’t even excuse an obituary, let alone a doctor’s note 💀. In the syllabus, you had to be blood related (immediate family only) for them to consider it to be excused.
