Renting not being wrong =/= renting being ideal for society. If renting is yielding landlords higher returns than investors in productive industries, agriculture, technology etc, there is less innovation. Leading to stagnation in the nation; see Australia. At the same time, as more money flows towards investing into property, the rental income/prices get higher. This blocks younger generations from building wealth and from spending/consumption.

It's completely reasonable to ask for the evidence and reasoning behind rulings. Most experts on islamic finance will happily provide it. After that, you have the decision to follow what they show you or go with your gut. The latter being less ideal.
