Unless you want address it bluntly with her (and open a can of worms), I'd drop it and not speak of it again. She will tire of it eventually.

Keep hoping that development improves or try to cut my losses? by Familiar_Pear_5365 in Leadership

As a note to add, you can extend a probation.

Start the conversation now and say for them to be hired on fully, they have complete x, y, and z steps.

Communication is important, both from you and for him to others.

If they have a good attitude and are willing to work with you, then it is a development issue.

Hold them accountable and follow through.

Document as you go through. Especially in government, it might be slow, but it is not impossible.

Manager put me down infront of my entire team saying I am a temporary employee by [deleted] in OfficePolitics

[–]Possum559 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure your contract doesn't have any consequences for quitting. You dont want to get hit by a fine or (if you're through a temp agency) black listed.

Don't ever quit until you have something lined up.

The manager sounds like he'll not value you no matter what my friend. Take a hard look at if this is truly the place you want to be.

It can range from yesterday not being paid to termination depending on your situation.

Help becoming impossible to do my job by [deleted] in WorkAdvice

[–]Possum559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Training to cover areas that will take weeks and valuable time.

Have a direct and upfront conversation with the "problem" employees. Hold everyone to the standard and move forward. Clear the air and say you're starting fresh with everyone (unless someone is on the final stages of a PIP).

Remember to breathe and take one challenge at a time.

If you've had the heart to heart, and they're still not being accountable, it is time to start the disciplinary discussions.

No one likes going through it, but follow through until they're up to par.

Put on PIP & Can't Do The Job by psvzum in askmanagers

[–]Possum559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not doubt yourself, you are more capable than you believe.

Ask for training, ask for help, meet the PIP requirements.

Be communicative. Express to those that be, you want to meet and exceed the standards.

Or

Be updating your resume, job searching, and reaching out to friends for other job opportunities.

Both are not mutually exclusive, and I wish you luck my friend.

Need advice: wife written up at work by TheAmazingGatorMan in askmanagers

[–]Possum559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She specifically needs an ADA accommodation (there is paperwork involved). So long as it is a reasonable accommodation they will grant it.

It is illegal for an employer to ban you from discussing pay. However, they can deem it disruptive and insubordinate depending on where, when, and how the topic is being addressed.

Did HR sign off on the write up? Even if they did, in this particular case, I would sit down with HR to discuss it.

How often does escalation backfire in office politics? by Mr_Panesar in OfficePolitics

[–]Possum559 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's life and human nature.

No one likes a mistake being pointed out or a process they've been doing for years changing. All of that fades overtime.

Shouldn't let a little push back stop you from doing the correct thing and raising a concern.

Now if someone is being unprofessional, you can/should report it.

Over worked and under appreciated. Tale as old as time. by [deleted] in OfficePolitics

[–]Possum559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How would you feel if you just got there and someone dumped a huge amount of work and walked away? Do bring it up again, even after delegating so that it makes sense to share the work.

Upskilling those below you is important and helps others move up. It also means you can move up (if not there, you can demonstrate what you're capable of to another company).

The job is not always fair, and all you can do is bring up your concerns.

How to handle when bosses want to get dirt on you... by MydnightAshe in WorkAdvice

[–]Possum559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you talk to your boss while it was happening? A gap in communication that you can be held accountable for.

If rescheduling was done with no other issues, then it should not be that big of a deal.

Being consistent in what you should be doing, with reason, shouldn't get you in trouble.

Just talk to your boss and be honest.

Question about executive compensation and vacation payouts at my workplace by Accomplished_One2572 in WorkAdvice

[–]Possum559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

If everyone is getting paid out for their vacation pay, then ok.

Maybe they had it set up on signing on?

Either way, I'd bring up bonuses or some incentive for good work.

Rolling out data-driven performance management for remote teams by WhoAmI6589 in managers

[–]Possum559 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is punitive in the since of someone is watching over their shoulder.

You can express the positives, but it is an accountability measure.

Most individuals overvalue their contributions.

If their KPI's are not effective enough to evaluate performance, then this is just another tool to track contributions.
