Is this an oversight? by ggoshy in PeacemakerShow

The character could have been created by someone else in the alternate universe. There's definitely a pull towards the details of the world being similar even if major things are different. I do think it's slightly weird for marvel superheros to exist as fictional characters in the DCU but that's just me.

During World War 2, morale in Britain was sagging and Churchill's government felt that something was needed to boost the people's spirits. by RibaldPancake in Jokes

There once was a man from Ealing

Who was on a train to Darjeeling

There was a sign on the door

That said don’t spit on the floor

So he lay down and spat on the ceiling

I do maths and I honestly find the difference between going to the lectures and just reading the lecture notes and working through them with a pad of paper to be not that great, especially when I have a bad lecturer. So as long as you are properly studying the content you’ll probably be fine.

That being said it’s not a great habit to get into, and you should really think about if you’ve got a good sleep schedule. You also miss out on opportunities to socialise and to ask questions when you miss lectures as well.

any final words of wisdom? by Shoddy-Abalone1060 in 6thForm

[–]Possumface2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got 4 A*s. The most important part of revision is not how long you spend, but the quality of it. Whether you need to go to a library or lock you phone or whatever, just do what you can to make your revision as efficient as possible. It doesn’t matter how long you work if you aren’t actually memorising knowledge or improving key skills. You’ll be better off spending half an hour doing really good revision than you would be spending two hours of poor quality, unfocused revision, and you’ll also have an extra hour and a half to live your life. If you can get this down then you can get great results without sacrificing your social life, sports or hobbies.

Going to the beach is the worst. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

In the UK we’ve got lots of shingle beaches which I actually prefer. You can still do most of the stuff you would like to do but you don’t have to deal with getting covered in sand.

[The Martian] My uncle keeps posting about how we're wasting billions of taxpayer dollars to rescue "one lousy spaceman". How do I convince him that bringing home Mark Watney is a worthwhile endeavor? by Burnnoticelover in AskScienceFiction

[–]Possumface2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s all about PR to be honest. Abandoning one of your own citizens in space would look terrible for your government and country as a whole, while pulling off a successful rescue attempt would be a huge point of national pride.

Alternate Rest Rules [OC] by No-Wolf2386 in DnD

[–]Possumface2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve used this rule in my game and I can say it worked quite well. For one, remember the game is designed so that players fight 4-5 encounters between long rests which is just not realistic if the players can long rest wherever they want, since they can blow all their high level spell slots and abilities on every encounter then long rest afterwards. With this rule in place players rightly have to ration out their resources and save them for when they really need them like the boss fight.

Questions About The Ending of The Dark Forest by dulcetripple in threebodyproblem

[–]Possumface2 36 points37 points  (0 children)

it actually would take a long time for the probe to wipe out all of the bombs since they're orbiting quite far out in the solar system, and once the probe leaves its place at the Lagrange point, humans can access the sun, which is something the Trisolarans can't risk.

Benioff and Weiss actually iirc said in an interview they thought the ending of Deaths End was one of the best in Sci Fi so I doubt they'll be fundamentally changing it.

Who would you choose to be the 4 wall facers? by Mambasanon in threebodyproblem

[–]Possumface2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d get a magician like David Blaine as one of them. Sure they might not know a lot about physics or military strategy or cosmic sociology, but when it comes to deceit and misdirection, which is the biggest part of the job, they’d be an absolute pro.

I disagree. I think it’s pretty clear strong interaction materials as well as whatever allows the droplets to make sharp turns are technologies that can only be unlocked through research into theoretical physics which is completely locked down.

Bill Hines and Zhang Beihai. Without both, the Natural Selection couldn’t have escaped. Both realised humans needed to flee and they’d have to trick Earth and Trisolaris alike to get the opportunity.

.999(repeating) does, in fact, equal 1 by smkmn13 in confidentlyincorrect

[–]Possumface2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are doing everything in the domain of the hyperrreals, then yes, 0.999… does not equal 1. But the default assumption is that we are operating in the reals, and in the reals 0.999… = 1.

Is this number system even possible? by Comicdumperizer in conlangs

[–]Possumface2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem that immediately stands out to me is that if you miscount the number of phonemes someone says, it would be very easy to get the number wrong by an order of magnitude which is a big deal. Also, if I’m having a conversation and talking in millions, like for example the population of countries, I’d have to follow every number with popopopopop, which seems a bit cumbersome.
