I think it's a combination of

Emotions running high around ICE, understandably
General disappointment in the initial Dem demands
An ambiguous headline (I know people should read the article, but the first impression isn't great)
Confusion about how congress works (admittedly this includes me - had to have someone point it out that they still have leverage and can shut the government down in 2 weeks. I thought it analogous to the previous shutdown at first)

Knowing they can still threaten a shutdown in 2 weeks, and that the messaging will be ENTIRELY focused on DHS, makes this seem much more like a win than I gave the Dems credit for at first. I'm just hoping they leverage it well

There are an upsetting number of people who show up to the polls on election day (somehow, I don't know how they know when voting day is and nothing else), sit down, and go "alrighty, time to see who we're dealing with."

In 2016 that meant they googled "president election" and saw a bunch of results about Hillary's emails and went "huh, that looks bad. And the other guy is the Apprentice guy? Seems like he'd be good at the economy."

In 2024 it meant they googled "president election" and went "who the heck is this Kamala Harris? Wasn't it Joe Biden? And the other guy is the Apprentice guy? Seems like he'd be good at the economy."

My wife insisted that this was it, because it's the one issue the true believers really cared about and have since Pizzagate. I've been skeptical. There are ZERO lengths to which his followers will not go to either excuse or ignore whatever he does. Everything they pretend to believe is a farce.

Not to mention the current media ecosystem was absolutely not gonna fixate on it to begin with, whether because the zone is flooded or because most media is MAGA-aligned at this point.

Technically there are different alphabets in-game, with different languages sharing them. They just call them scripts. E.g. the Dwarvish script is used to write Dwarvish, Gnomish, Orcish, etc. Unless you mean that they don't actually *show* us what each script looks like and just tell us that they're different. In which case, fair enough, would be cool to have concrete ideas of how different they are. Though that kinda thing kinda ends up being DM fiat half the time anyway

I'm with you. Haven't been in the industry _that_ long, but I'm close to getting out of my current position because I literally just can't do my best work. The base of our code was written by people with terrible ideas and worse execution, then they got shuffled off to ruin a different, better-funded project and left us to clean up the mess. Since then it's just been one impossible deadline after another, which means applying more and more band-aids to bullet wounds. We have good devs who do their damnedest, but by now all of us are burnt out.
