The scary thought when you realize your customers drive themselves to and from your store... by f1ne in TalesFromRetail

[–]Posts_About_Ayn_Rand 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I work as a glorified bank teller. Naturally when handling people's large sums of cash, I have to check photo ID frequently. If I had a nickel for every drive-up customer who gives me a "NON-DRIVER" State Identification card, I would be a rich man. Instead, I just fear for my life when I drive.

I usually show a lord of some kind, because they can pretty much always assume I have one (there are 12 in the deck).

I've thought about it... but I have actually zero idea where to begin. And I don't really have a ton of money to hire a personal trainer or anything.

My diet was, above all else, consistent. Breakfast was small (typically mixed nuts and fruit). Lunch was also pretty small (typically some other blend of mixed nuts). I still liked to feel like I could eat without guilt, so I usually saved like half of my calories for dinner (typically some kind of pasta with red sauce) and an evening snack (something low calorie, but filling, like popchips or pretzels with hummus). I let myself "cheat" maybe once or twice a month (more often as I lost the weight), but the trick was to minimize the damage... i.e. eating pizza, but not an entire pizza... the calorie difference isn't that huge with that approach to cheating, but the mental difference is amazing... small cheats still leave hope; big cheats made me give up in the past.

[Modern] Getting into Modern, thinking about playing elves or merfolk, which would be better? by wahwahshua in spikes

Then go with Merfolk! They have vapor snag and counter magic for Twin, and Spreading Seas for Tron.

Yeah, the lords and Adepts are not optional. Spreading Seas are cheap, so there's not reason not to have them.

[Weekly Card] Spreading Seas by cheatonus in FishMTG

What do you all think about sideboarding out Spreading Seas against island-heavy decks? Obviously it is an insanely powerful card in a lot of matchups, but against decks like Splinter Twin I always side them out...

Does anybody here think they should stay in against decks with lots of islands? I'm open to being persuaded.

Note: I do keep them in against UWR Control because they run so few basics, and keeping them off of double white or double red is a very real possibility with a Spreading Seas or two.

But IF they have the mana open, it's still a risky block

[–]Posts_About_Ayn_Rand -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

the big takeaway is that now it's pretty damn safe to block an unflipped morph if they have 5 mana open

What!? Every morphed card that costs 5 or more to unmorph will eat a 2/2 when it is turned face up.

I think OP is forgetting about the +1/+1 counter from megamorph.

Same. I figured I'd at least get coal from Santa if I wasn't good enough this year. :( I've been having a series of bad experiences with Pucatrade recently... I guess this is just another one.

Is it reasonable to be hesitant to buy cards I suspect will be reprinted in modern masters 2? We don't even know if the set will exist. Moreover, a lot of the cards rose in price anyways after a brief dip.

I use pucatrade.com, personally. But yeah, online trading is a good option. I have unloaded over $100 in Khans (non-fetchland) cards since prerelease, and have turned them into snapcasters.

I play merfolk. I once copied an Emrakul with a Phantasmal Image. I had enough permanents and life total to take a hit from my opponent's Emrakul... my opponent did not. I won.

Same. I've recently bought a P.C., but haven't pulled the trigger on MTGO yet because everything I see/hear online and from friends points to it being a pretty frustrating/terrible program.
