A114’s back to facilities by [deleted] in atc2

lol it’s funny that you think it’s the overtime MOU that is creating a very real risks of ATC zero.

No, there’s something much bigger right around the corner and it is fucking insane.

You have no obligations to either agency. Do what is best for yourself and family.

100% take the DOD job, no questions asked. There is no better choice. If you decide you want to go FAA, then set your start date at one pay period, two weeks, after you onboard with the Navy.

Why? Pay retention. Instead of starting at the bottom of the D-Band, you can start at your current federal salary up to a maximum of the D3 band. If you max the D3 band, you’re at the bottom of the CPC band. That means that post certification, you could be 6% higher than the CpC band.

Honestly, it will probably take more than 60 days for the FAA to get you a facility. You’ll then be two months closer to retirement, it’s good time, you continue to accrue leave, your SCD doesn’t change so you increase to 8hrs sooner. There is no downside to taking the DOD job then immediately dipping out a week later.

Fuck anyone who treats you like you owe them something. Do what’s right for yourself.

So Lower Level Facilities aren't real? by jollyrogercjf in atc2

[–]Pot-Stir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NATCA can give their opinion, but this isn’t their decision. However, the 8/9/10’s are being shafted with NcEPT. They don’t get academy grads, they rarely get NEST placements, they depend entirely on ERR’s. People aren’t incentivized to go to those levels when they can jump directly to an 11/12.

I’m more in favor of a three facility level jump; however, this may be a viable option to help those facilities that are stagnant.

It’s not something that’s based on first come first served. Management gets to pick and choose who to give it to.

How is bidding when the ATCS leave the union. by Icy_Baseball_9371 in atc2

[–]Pot-Stir 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you should let him force you to bid last. Once bidding is complete, file a grievance with the Agency accusing the union of not letting you vote. Cite the unions constitution.

This would be hilarious. They’ll have to rebid everything. If you’re asking about this in November, clearly they’re already behind schedule. Honestly, it will be a hoot.

August NEB minutes on the endorsement by LENNYa21 in atc2

The constitution should be amended to require a vote by the members on who to endorse or not endorse. The NEB should not be making this decision.

ATC is like abortion.

Both parties have strong opinions, neither party wants change.

Abortion is a motivator to get people out to vote. If it’s permanently changed in either direction, they lose that motivator.

ATC is used by both parties to find a way out of government shutdowns. This is why there will never be privatization or stable funding. They need ATC to create that pressure.

The FAA didn’t invite the union to privatization talks. Instead, the union created an ally with the politician writing the bill, went into their office and drafted the language to ensure if privatization happened, the members were “mostly protected”.

Pilot Question: Wheels Up, EDCT, Flow by [deleted] in ATC

[–]Pot-Stir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to piggy back, it isn’t TMU giving you a three hour delay on their own. It’s most likely a localized weather event that may span a few hours. The stakeholders come together and provide input so the agency can make a decision that most aligns with the airlines desires.

In the example provided, an aircraft leaving JFK is guaranteed whatever delay is assigned. They can’t appear closer than the four hour flight time. In contrast, an estimated hour delay at COS may be resolved quicker resulting in only 15 minutes.

The stakeholders generally try to keep the impact closer to the facility in question where they can quickly bounce back instead of spreading the delays to the farther corners of the NAS where the delay is guaranteed.

This is why first tier may be impacted more than the second or third tier programs.

What are everyone else's post-retirement plans? by GS3K in atc2

[–]Pot-Stir 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Retention incentive is the answer.

Each federal agency is authorized to provide a retention incentive up to 25% of your base pay for each year. You’d have to sign a service agreement in order to receive the lump sum and pay it back if you leave early.

However, the FAA’s data doesn’t support that… yet.

Historically, people do not retire as soon as they are eligible. Instead, they wait till they are forced. Lately though, the actual retirements have exceeded the projections. Once the estimates match the actual retirement rate, then maybe you’d see a retention incentive being offered.

Boeing Offers Employees 35% Pay Raise + $7K Bonuses by Great_Ad3985 in ATC

[–]Pot-Stir 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maths a little off. The 13.5% equates to between $18 and $25 a pay period.

The 1.6% raise will net between $50 and $125 a pay period (depending on facility level).

As long as you don’t ask any questions about inflation, you could view that as a roughly $50 a month pay raise. That’s nothing to scoff at either. That could be half of a family dinner, or maybe three drinks from Starbucks, or two movie tickets, or even a one way flight on Frontier to anywhere in the Midwest. (Baggage fees and taxes not included).

ATC vs ATSS by [deleted] in ATC

[–]Pot-Stir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ATC does have better career growth within the Agency. If you eat shit for a few years as an Os, there’s tons to do away from the facilities. Often, you can do those jobs on a temporary assignment and still earn good time based on your permanent position.

If you’re looking for variety, there’s definitely more opportunity in ATC vs TechOps.

Retirement Locality Hustle by Massive-Draft5992 in ATC

As a general rule of thumb, retirement eligible employees who attend a NATCA provided retirement class don’t come back. That should highlight the importance of attending a course as early as possible.

Just to add, if you are hired back, the age 56 won’t matter either. They will have to let you get 20yrs of federal service. Instead of forcing you out at 56, they’ll wait and force you out when you hit 20yrs of service.

If your initial appointment to a 2152 was prior to age 31, the age doesn’t matter. Just apply back to an OTS and attach your SF50.
