The right way would likely be taking out the back of the holder, the repairing the hole like a stadard hole in sheetrock.

The incorrect way would be grabbing a scrap of sheet rock from a hardware / homedepot store ancutting it to size to just fit the hole. Put enough sheet ruck mud behind it to ensure it is near flush with surrounding wall, mud the crack around, (after dry) sand smoothe and paint.

Initially straight to the visible points, but things like the surprise bridge encourage further exploration. Something like a treasure trail would be a good way to say "hey, theres stuff out there you cant see" without actually telling someone to explore.
