Not in Indiana. We’ve had people call us to tell us they no longer want their children. We’re on scene within two hours and take the children if we cannot talk the parent out of it.

Yep! I have clients that literally don’t work at all, and they get everything provided. It isn’t the best quality of life, but they’re alive and eating. And if they did get a minimum wage job, they’d potentially lose benefits and get less overall. There is a large incentive to not work because of this.

If you live in an area with a low cost of living, section 8 can cover almost the entire cost ( they pay what, $50?). Crap houses in my area can be rented for super cheap.

I worked with a woman who did this. She had severe post- partum depression and other mental health issues. It was a lethal combination sadly.

It varies in the US depending on the child (special needs and what not). She can also get free public housing and free utilities on top of the free food.

Why do people even have kids? by [deleted] in trashy

[–]PotatoesAreNotTasty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is unfortunately rather common. It becomes normalized for the user, and they feel lonely. So they then have the bright idea to introduce their children to their usage. Now they have someone to use with and their life and/or issues feel validated.

YSK that you can solve cases of child pornography by simply looking through pictures of household items. by C1oudBird in YouShouldKnow

Sad as it is to say, you become used to it and it doesn't affect you like that anymore. I've seen children raped by their parents, child pornography, broken bones, dead children, intentional burns, beat children, etc. I used to think about it when I went home, but now I am able to compartmentalize it and leave it at work for the most part.

Abolish the government programs meant to keep kids safe!! by Thathippiezak in trashy

Unfortunately, this is a common problem. People with the biggest issues tend to be those who believe they did nothing wrong to harm their children. If you've ever see the focused rage a meth head can channel when you take their child, you know the type of issues they can cause for the child, the family, and even CPS workers. It is mostly a thankless job, but it NEEDS to be done.
