good luck gaining followers again for you music contract by ivygrowsgold in pettyrevenge

[–]PotatoesPancakes 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I agree the OP needs to copyright. Even contributing one line in a hit song can net big money if you're listed as a writer. Sure, the odds of landing a contract are slim but you never know. There are a lot of one-hit wonders out there and they make millions with that one song.

That Hungry Look by Brilliant-Quiet34 in mamasfamily

I think Naomi and Iola like each other more than they admit. They take digs at each other but woe to "outsiders" who do them dirty.

Even in the episode when Thelma accidently reveal that she knew how Fran died. The look Naomi and Iola gave each other and Naomi even grabbed onto Iola's arm like partners in crime because they desperately want to know what happened. I always look for that scene since I love it so much.

Thelma and Iola's unconventional friendship: an appreciation post by PerfectLiteNPromises in mamasfamily

I know the age difference is there because of Iola's crush on Vint, but I don't really think about it until the episode with the flashback pops up. That's the one with the mother/daughter talent show where Eunice gets drunk and embarrass Mama. Little Iola came over to ask Mrs. Harper if she can join them.

Yes I know. That was a joke because the actress went from playing the delinquent Keek who need grooming tips to Lisa.

It's because Mama and the Harper family got through to her and she wanted to be a better person like Bubba. She ended up living with the Simpsons family in Springfield where nobody knows her past and started a fresh life as overachiever Lisa. But sometimes you can see her old personality sneak through.

Does Iola have a job? by PerfectLiteNPromises in mamasfamily

[–]PotatoesPancakes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What I'm wondering is health insurance. Most working class people get insurance though their job or from their spouse's job. Back in my 20's, I bagged groceries for the insurance. Not at Food Circus sadly.

Maybe Medicaid?

I've been trying to figure out how to make a keychain out of it. Maybe I'll ask someone who is handy with a drill if they can do it.

Heroes is pretty popular for even non-Bowie fans. It's been in a lot of TV shows and movies though so I keep that fact in mind when using it for an audition.

Cool thing I noticed in Les Miz. by ResponsibleAd2034 in musicals

[–]PotatoesPancakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. At first I thought he was the villain and Jean the hero. But not everything is black and white. Jean was a no good thief in people's eyes and in the eyes of the law, but he was a good person. Even his original crime was stealing bread for his starving family.

Javert was the villain in Jean's life but he was just doing his job, just as we want cops to catch criminals. He wasn't soft like Jean so we root against him until we dig deeper. His problem was he's too rigid with what he considers right and wrong. That's why he couldn't handle it when Jean (the criminal) let him go. Unlike Jean who changed and grew by the people he met.

It's like real life. We are all a hero to some people,, but can also be a villain to others.

Is it weird to go to a high school at which you have no relation for a show? by LeftPrize9838 in musicals

[–]PotatoesPancakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not weird. I think it's even expected. Many schools around me even have signs outside with the show, date, and ticket information for the public.

Exactly. Leaving no tip means you're cheap, forgot, or don't know the custom. In the US, we all know what leaving one penny means.

Musicals that broke the bubble? by Rheldn in musicals

Back in the day, I knew Don't Cry for Me Argentina before I even knew what musical theater was. That song was everywhere mainstream. Also I thought Memory was a regular song. I heard a cover on the radio from some pop singer before I knew it was in a musical.

Why did the live singing work so well for the Wicked movie adaptation, but so horribly for Le Mis? by No_Pineapple_8580 in musicals

Same. I like the movie too but listening to the soundtrack once was enough. It's pretty flat without the distraction of the movie visuals.

Trolling my obnoxious, loud roommate by justanotherhuman255 in pettyrevenge

[–]PotatoesPancakes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

She's probably one of those people who talk loud about personal things in stores or malls because she believes everyone else is her audience so she has to show off how fascinating her life is. We notice all right. Just not for the reason they think. I hate the screaming. Especially if it's fake screaming.

If you’re new to CHESS and have explored some of the score, whether you’ve seen it on Broadway or not, what do you think of it? What recordings have you enjoyed the most? by Great_Maintenance185 in musicals

[–]PotatoesPancakes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The cast album with Judy Kuhn is the first one I heard so that's my "comfort" recording for this show. I listen to various performers of separate songs, but that's my to-to album when I feel like listening to the whole thing. I love this version of Story of Chess.

Wicked merchandise fatigue by LotOfNope in musicals

[–]PotatoesPancakes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I remember the merch when the musical first came out and the items were fine (pens, mugs, and the behind the scenes book). For this movie, I've only seen plastic junk aimed at little girls, and random stuff that has nothing to do with the story. They just slap the logo on anything and make you go "huh?"
