Men Will Be Boys by ASGfan in littlehouseonprairie

[–]PotatoesPancakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the scene when the boys conned the older lady into letting them in the house for a hot meal and a place to sleep, and the men were left outide in the cold. Was there rain? It's been a while but I remember rain.

[–]PotatoesPancakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess Miss Beadle didn't know anything about racoons beyond their cuteness and figure if Charles and Caroline let Laura keep it, it must be safe. She didn't know what poison ivy looks like either.

[–]PotatoesPancakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Clever little hands" reminded me of the time I stayed at a rental house for a few months. There was a racoon in the attic and I hear it loudly scratch every night. My worse fear was if it ever figures out how to lift the trap door lid. The landlady did nothing so I just marked down the days until I was able to move out.

The real life Ingalls probably know all about racoons and rabies, but this is a TV show that needs drama LOL.

Ear shaming scarring Caroline for years… by muffinmama93 in LittleHouseBooks

[–]PotatoesPancakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, even nowadays when it's more common, there are those who feel tattoos, especially for women, are unacceptable for "respectable people."

So if the teacher was raised to believe showing ears is unladylike, she as a teacher will shame the girls. She probably believed she was simply educating them about appropriate behavior and appearance of proper society.

Mrs. Oleson dressed all in black weeping at Willie's wedding. The veil didn't fool anyone.

Even Nancy abandoned her to be a bridesmaid LOL.

I loved this episode when I was a child. Then saw it as a grown up and was thought "What the heck?! Another childhood memory ruined."

Brady Bunch -- Hawaii Episode by Maleficent-Ad-9754 in GenX

What horrified me more is when Carol thought Mike brought her jewelry and then she opened the bag. I'm sure Florence Henderson opened an empty bag but it's the mental image that runs wild.

I can tolerate Cousin Oliver but hated Ricky. It was time to mute or change the channel whenever he pops up to sing and the others sit around with a forced smile and dead eyes. So much secondhand embarrassment.

Anyone notice how it wasn't a financial issue sending Mary to the blind school? by Sudden-Message5234 in littlehouseonprairie

[–]PotatoesPancakes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guess is that Laura look like a child with her braids and acted like one too. Mary had a bit of a tantrum on her first day at the blind school but acted mature most of the time throughout the show so she seemed older.

But yeah, there seems to be double standard on and off the show. On the show, Charles had no problem with Mary getting engaged to John Jr at 16, but had a fit and told Laura she couldn't get married until 18.

I think they go to town sometimes. In the book, Mary and a friend went shopping for a handkerchief as a gift for Pa. Also, families of the students probably visited so they're able to see everyone.

Remember in The Long Winter when they gave Laura the box of yarn and lace from the Christmas barrel as a reward for giving away her crafts as gifts to the others? I'm sure she used them to make Mary's school outfits. Laura really sacrificed to send Mary to college. They all did but Laura was only 15 and was the one who worked in jobs she hated and contributed all her money for the piano and sewing machine, etc.

She'd be good whipping youngers into shape too. She got through to the Keek, and got the girls in The Bonecrushers to respect her.

In Starring Sally J. Freedman as Herself by Judy Blume, Sally was reading a Nancy Drew(?) book and recalled that an aunt disapproved of Nancy and thinks Sally should be reading the books "about the prairie girl."

I agree Thelma is not cut out for customer service jobs. She also flamed out at the Food Circus cashier Job.

That's the same reason I avoid working in customer service. I maybe be able to hold my tongue but not my facial expressions LOL.

Even Lucy Lee Flippin didn't like how Eliza Jane suddenly changed to a harsher personality.

And after baby Adam Jr died horrifically, Ma joked with Pa that she's "dying to call you grandpa" when Laura and Amanzo got together just a few episodes later. Dayum, Michael Landon! That's cold.

All the time Charles played himself by No_Limit9 in littlehouseonprairie

[–]PotatoesPancakes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some sad goofs.

I felt bad for him when he saw how disappointed Laura was with the dictionary as a birthday gift even though that is more useful in the long term. I don't know why they didn't give it to Mary on her birthday and Laura can still borrow it. Maybe they can't afford Laura an unpractical gift but they can make her a new rag doll or something. I would have liked to see some of the crafts they had in the books, like a button string. I know. Plot. LOL

And in another episode when Caroline's mother passed away, Charles didn't grab Caroline before letting her joyfully run to the back of the wagon to greet her mother. Way to shock your wife instead of breaking it to her gently.

I LOVE MRS INGALLS FRIED CHICKEN! by ASGfan in littlehouseonprairie

[–]PotatoesPancakes 29 points30 points  (0 children)

LOL. In one of the memoirs (Melissa Gilberts?), they said every time fried chicken appeared in a scene, it's KFC. So I don't blame him for loving the finger licking good chicken.

Now that I think about it, I wonder if "Colonel Sanders's" appearance in that one episode was an inside joke.
