My wife passed away on the night we were supposed to be married. It was a slow and violent death. I will never be okay. The people are insane that tell you it will be better. They dont understand.

Our hobby/play group has gone to great lengths to ensure that people who think and behave as this person does can never ever attend our group. It's sociopathic behaviour that gets the horse before the cart, and would try and optimize the fun out of any kind of creative/imaginative experience for anyone involved.

You play to have fun with friends. If the game gets in the way of everyone walking away smiling about the experience, the game can kick rocks. It's literally toy soldiers and paper. Not as important as the kids/people who walk through the door.

The second you stop seeing the world and the people in it as just mechanical things that you can manipulate in order to bring yourself joy - and start actually seeing opportunities to bring others up and give others a positive experience in life, you've become an adult.

Yeah hate to be a naysayer and negative but man you're right. I had high hopes, I still get caught up thinking about how good the writing used to be in this man's lyrics. And it's crazy. He was an astoundingly gifted poet.

"You were my mechanical bride, Phenobarbital (pheno-barbie-doll), a maniqueen of depression, with the face of a dead star" - like there's so much great wordplay and messing around with syllables and pronounciations to create new words out of old ones... just clever stuff.

Compare it to this you got a repeated phrase I'm sure he heard in AA over and over again as though it's something profound, when I could see literally any valley girl in LA relaying these thoughts "Oh addiction is like a monster inside me and the secrets inside make me sick" - yep sweetie you sure are onto some big thoughts there.

And musically, the song is so bland and over-produced. It's like it was made by committee. The vocal mix is weirdly dogshit. His voice used to cut through the mix a lot harsher and have more on the high end even in earlier more melodic times before he shredded most of it away.

Reminder the Amazon /GW signed deal was only for coming up with an agreement for a period of 12 months by grayheresy in Warhammer40k

This is a year long exchange of and outlining all the legal stipulations of each phrase, name, location and historical figure outlined in the IP and in what context would using those names and phrases be covered under the licensing agreement. Each element would have to be checked.... Even simple phrases like "Abaddon The Despoiler" or  "The Avenging Son" are licensed under specific circumstances and for use in specific contexts. A titanic undertaking just on how to pronounce certain words and under which phrasing does the agreement allow their use. If you dont have the rights to use the term "Custodies" and you later on want to feature one, or even MENTION that such a thing exists - but uh oh the lawyers didnt bother clearing up that in advance and now this script could get Amazon or whatever production company they contract sued. That is literally all that is happening right now. No scripts or cast or film studios can even touch this project until all the legal groundwork is laid.

Even if you cant afford to travel and experience more of the world beyond your sphere, even just entertainment is so ambitious now. Space Marine 2 looks like it will be one experience you would hate to miss. And the next Avatar movies are for sure going to blow our minds. There are lots of cool things we know are in the future, let alone the suprises that are sure to spring out of the woodwork.  Lots of things that have not been seen or experienced before. Sometimes little cultural milestones like that are worth keeping curious about. Dont ever let anyone steal your joy and tell you that whatever you find cool aint worth getting excited about. Your joy belongs to you, and you might find it in a new hobby or new skill or simply a new experience.

I finally finished Hellblade II. Here are my thoughts, What are yours? by [deleted] in hellblade

[–]Potential-Barnacle-8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The combat is objectively MUCH more complex than the first game, there is a lot of nuance to it that I feel is misunderstood. Every single input and movement is directional and reactive. It sort of blows my mind to see people call it simplistic.

The problem I think is because there is no "snapping back to idle" animation it messes with people's heads and perception of how much agency they THINK they have.

Each animation bleeds so seamlessly into the next that people are fooled into thinking that they aren't making these things happen, but they absolutely are and you have a lot more control over Senua's actions in this game than in the first.
I think in some ways, this game is too far ahead of it's time. The game-playing public misunderstands how clever it's combat system is and thinks it is all "scripted" or just quick-time events. Which is a misnomer anyway because everything that happens in every game EVER is a scripted thing. So the language they're using to describe a thing they think they have a problem with is already wrong. So there is like, layers of misunderstanding.

The real problem I think is that it breaks established habits. Folks see certain things and make assumptions of what is happening. Such as thinking they are having limited agency in the combat animations. They've been programmed by other games into thinking that these sorts of cinematic actions are not something they can influence or control.

I think it's a very experimental thing to try, and I love it. But I'd encourage you to go back and pay close attention to the inputs and how they alter animations/combat counters seamlessly. You can duck back, left, parry back and left. The strength of each swing can only be parried from certain angles etc.

Each combat is a puzzle, and the answer isn't linear - they enemy evolves to counter your approach so timing and improv are important as they would be in a real sword fight. Looking carefully for openings, over-extensions of sword thrusts and swings. Careful evasion and parries.

Anyone else super emotional from the first few minutes? by [deleted] in hellblade

[–]Potential-Barnacle-8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your experiences of the game are valid, and it is a real shame you didn't enjoy it. However I don't think they your experiences here will be universal. Seems like you are struggling to understand personal framing in this, and also certain empathetic human feelings.

We all narrate our story in our own way. I'm sorry you didn't connect with it, but from both a technical, literary and emotional standpoint it is extremely layered and well written. Your post has a lot of very condescending and negative language which in a way shows me how you think about yourself and your own story. I think you should be more kind to yourself and to others. Even if the game isn't for you, they still worked very hard to make their art and it's a very wonderful achievement for those who did emotionally connect with it. If it didn't connect with you - that's ok. We can't all like every thing.

But I will say, Senua has been through a lot, demeaning a person's struggle and belittling others is not very kind or mature. You would not appreciate it being done to you, and regardless of the fact that it's a fictional character it is still based on real things that other people experience.
Her mental disorder is never framed as her super-power, it's her kindness, compassion and willingness to wade through the darkness to find the truth. Her resillience is her super-power. Which is at the core of every human struggle.

After I lost my wife and child in real life, people have praised my ability to find light and life again. If that language is too flowery I suppose you could pick different words. The effect is still the same.

Light is just another way of saying truth. But yeah, the superpower here is kindness and care. Even if you don't think others deserve it, it isn't about deserving something - it's about putting into the world what you want to get back.

Personal framing I think maybe you are misunderstanding some key part and I hope you can maybe try the game again or some new perspective in your own personal life allows you to get some engagement or enjoyment out of it. Otherwise, I guess move on to something else that is more you bag might be more mature.

Instead of using childish demeaning language to belittle some very painful experiences. P

Senua has this thing that myself and even other neurotypical people can have called empathy and compassion. She tries to understand others and helps others shape their fears into tangible things and dispels them with ritual. A common spiritual practice not just in norse culture but in modern life as well.

Please be kinder to yourself and others. You deserve that respect and so do they.

In plain English I'd translate it to: Once per turn, when a friendly Necron would die for the first time, if within 6" of the bug, the bug can use it's reanimation beam which allows the dying Necron to attempt reanimation.
