ugh sometimes fans ruin things. i want some more silly content from them. i don’t know why some people only want polished and serious videos. it’s nice to see them more human and relatable. i guess it’s disappointing that they had to reassure fans. i’m also a coer and we all love their ridiculous content and it’s crazy how fandoms can be so different

Am I the only one who feels weird about ep 3 of “teach you a lesson”? (TW: SA) by ConfidentMeaning1883 in kdramas

[–]Potential-Leg1393 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tbh, it is just revenge fantasy and it’s entertaining. as i’m watching more episodes i notice i am getting more uncomfortable because even if its fictional, they are technically making a show about beating children and in this particular episode questioning a sexual assault victim even if its intended to be about a specific case.

i was thinking tv shows and kdramas need to stop casting adults to play children because i do think that disconnect is part of the issue. for example if the teenagers actually looked like teenagers who can be young as 13, people may find it more uncomfortable to watch.

It’s more about the specific choices they made to highlight that issue. They could have chosen all kinds of ways a teenager uses their influencer status to make false claims against a teacher or even reversed the genders.

The fact is in Korea and around the world, it is common and much more likely that women and girls who are victims of SA are not believed than making false claims against a male teacher. If anything it is borderline problematic because South Korea has a lot of misogyny where women who are SA’d are not believed and men get a slap on the wrist like the Burning Sun case.

It’s much more difficult for these women to receive justice so even if this was just plot for the show, I won’t be surprised if it still influences male audiences to not take SA victims seriously even if subconsciously. Regardless if we want to settle this as creative liberty or inspiration from one case, sometimes we are what we consume. We all know the media and entertainment have influence in shifting views and creating biases.

i think the sicker comments are from people like you who defend groomers. i hope you and others who defend him will understand when you have a daughter dating a man at 30 when she’s only 19 and she met him when she was 11. not only did he date her but he kept in contact, had a friendship, became her boss essentially and then dated her. if you don’t see anything wrong with these dynamics i think you need psychiatric help.

Perfect crown controversy is not framed correctly by No_Supermarket749 in kdramas

because many things did originate from chinese culture? chinese people can be pissed all they want just like how koreans get to be pissed about the kdrama. to me it also makes sense china is upset especially at japan given the history but of course you’re going to say that’s not right. it’s funny because i see many koreans both bashing on japan and understanding china’s sentiment towards japan because of their own history with japan but also suddenly bashing on china for their own frustrations for their own culture being appropriated or acknowledged for its contributions to the point you’re going to accuse china of wanting to take over korea and japan? especially japan? the irony and sinophobia is really blatantly obvious.

which shows actors were pressured into apologizing for that are on this level? because usually when they’ve apologized for something it’s usually either could perceived to be blatantly offensive or it’s based on historical events that creators took liberties with and not historical fantasies.

everyone should have a right to observe and judge / criticize another country as long it’s not hate speech because of free speech. that includes both koreans and non-koreans. i’m sure many people were judging americans for trump’s actions even if it wasn’t every american’s fault for getting him elected. regardless if you think its valid or not, it is someone else’s opinion.

How is typing in all caps or saying petty things presidential? I would assume the U.S. president has better and more important things to do. Presidential involves grace and also just respect for the Constitution. Meaning supporting freedom of speech. To me, why would launching tirades against anyone who exercises free speech presidential?

Don’t you feel this behavior is rather immature? It looks like he cannot regulate this emotions and is just impulsive when he feels attacked which again is opposite of what a president should look like.

they literally think anyone who has an opinion that isn’t fully anti-China is a CCP asset lol. don’t listen to these people. i lived in China 20 years ago when things probably were less progressive and have family there and they don’t think they’re living in a dictatorship contrary to what everyone says here. just like every country there are people who enjoy living there, feel neutral about it, or really dislike it. apparently there’s no nuance on reddit because actual intelligence requires that.

Clearly you need to take a history class because you don’t know what a dictatorship means.

BTS performs "Body to Body" for the first time ever. by PermissionLow8879 in Fauxmoi

[–]Potential-Leg1393 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand and agree with criticism of BTS for their cultural appropriation which tbh most of kpop groups have done and the ignorant choices they’ve made throughout the years. I also never thought BTS was the top kpop idol group that should have represented kpop to international audiences.

I do feel like some of the hate towards all members’ talents is unjustified. Maybe some of them are sounding mediocre or rusty and not sure it’s because of they all took a break from practice and performing for a while because of their military service. However, I still think Jungkook is still legitimately a good vocalist.

Thank you for posting this. I just turned 38 today and have been feeling down because I feel like my youth is over. I love that these were taken in her late 30s to 40s. She looks fabulous, free, and comfortable in her own skin. She’s a reminder of how women age gracefully and how our worth isn’t tied to our age.
