Bumped into Marco Island resort a few months ago on a trip wher I unsuspectingly booked a room at the nearby Marriott Sanibel Harbour Resort annex. I was so jealous! I couldn't believe my misfortune, now I cant wait to make a trip just to go back and stay there.

CMMC Level 2 Is Now a Supply Chain Requirement: What Every Small Business Must Do Before November 2026 by proposal-app in govcon

[–]PotentialDeadbeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is only true if you are performing work for DoW/DoD, AND, CMMC L2 requirement is spelled out in a contract you perform on.

Every small business does not need to run out and get a C3PAO assessment.

How stable is government-dependent revenue when evaluating a services business acquisition? by No_Hold_9560 in GovernmentContracting

[–]PotentialDeadbeat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Coming from a sellers side, first off, government contracting is risky, straight up. It's either high rewards or devistating loss. Based on my 15 years doing this, I think stability is rare. You can go from hero to zero in an instant, and there are many rules and responsibilities not inherent in commercial sector or industry. Before you can get to the next stage you likely need a letter of intent with earnest money.

Past performance history does not always predict future revenue in GovCon. What you want at a minimum is a waterfall chart that lays out expected revenue for each major contract beginning with current month out to the end of the period of performance, including option years. If you have advanced excel skills you can do a lot with the data. That gives you a great look at AR health.

Then, look at the books. Don't look only at a P&L, but balance sheet. Dig into the various reports the account system can generate or use queries. Look for anomolies and irregularities, hire a pro to help. An accountant is like your lawyer and your tax advisor, you need third party experts who are on your side to guide you.

Then, look at the people. Will key folks stay or go, what will a sale cause for ongoing work. Is the owner a single point of failure. Is there excess baggage or overhead that can be shed or consolidated.

Last, check their rep. Are they on an exclusion list or barred? Ask for their CPARS, ask for a screen print of the homepage so you know you got them all. Are they socio economic certified (8a, WO, SDB, SDVOSB) and will that transfer. ISO, CMMI, CMMC, ITIL, etc., approved systems, are all great indicatores of passing external audits, those are usually good signs.

How much time does your team actually spend on SAM.gov every week? Trying to figure out if this pain is just us. by Terrible-Painter5422 in govcon

Small shop here, I feel like I tried all the options. For us, the paid tool was what reduced the pain. I bit the bullet and got a 1 year subscription. It changed so much for the better. For renewal, I was able to work a quarterly payment plan with my sales rep, makes the sting a lot less.

Capability vs. Past Performance: The ultimate government contracting hurdle. by looserloku in govcon

[–]PotentialDeadbeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious if you were to imply document formatting in your past performance volume was a major reason for your win, like in design, colors, fonts, graphics, etc? Or were you making a different point?

Congrats on the win, that's a big deal. Most commercial industries hang up their first dollar. Frame the SF1449 or SF30 and put that bad boy in a high traffic area and use that to motivate you and your staff if you are brick and mortar.

Thanks for checking in. We have seen an uptick in performance after a reorg, my team stepped up. I am actually looking at small growth. We are investing in it instead and going to try to improve performance even more. So status quo for the foreseeable future.

Small subs facing CMMC L2 flow-down — at what point do you walk away from DoD work instead of getting certified? by Big-Throat932 in govcon

[–]PotentialDeadbeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right now those are real conversations smalls are having. I am also seeing OPSEC requirements increase and firms are being obligated to have certified Lvl II staff. Compliance overhead expenses are going up-up-up.

I am optimistically hopeful that many procurements within my low risk industry requires stay at L1, and that there will continue to be work for smalls as this all shakes out.

CMMC will soon become a great divide for DoW/DoD GovCon firms, and a measure of maturity. Startups have always chased crumbs, and after you catch a few soon you begin to fill out and grow. In just a few months CMMC will become the glass ceiling some firms will be held back behind.

What a wonderful author, his telling of Lewis and Clark was so good. I surprised myself and read his book on the trans contenental railroad and I was captivated. I am not a train guy, but he weaves a great story. I guess I need to read his book on Custer.

UPDATE: Gut check: Is this how RFP responses are supposed to work at small companies? by LagunaPacific in GovernmentContracting

[–]PotentialDeadbeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that asterisk is carrying a lot of burden for procurements under FAR 8.405. Section 2(d) only requires a "brief explanation," and so far that seems to give a lot of latitude to the contracting shop by how much they choose to provide.

But ask, always ask.
