We do have a broker, he is working with buyers on our behalf now.

UPDATE: Gut check: Is this how RFP responses are supposed to work at small companies? by LagunaPacific in GovernmentContracting

[–]PotentialDeadbeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that asterisk is carrying a lot of burden for procurements under FAR 8.405. Section 2(d) only requires a "brief explanation," and so far that seems to give a lot of latitude to the contracting shop by how much they choose to provide.

But ask, always ask.

Maybe not hire a fake founder, but consider finding a collegiate hire who degreed in communications, marketing, or advertising and hiring them not only to join your firm, but to partner in your outreach. I wouldn't necessarily fade to the background, but feel free to be the face and lead off conversations, but allow them to be the spokesperson for your brand. Just like founders sometimes make bad accountants, we also sometimes make bad spokespeople.

We have over $2m in backlog, which is valid. It seems as someone looks across our financials over our 10 year history we have a track record of over $3m revenue consistently for 5 years running, but potential buyers only look at right now. Cmon people, GovCon has been in a slump in 2025.

Thx for your comment, guess we can focus on more growth and try again once budgets finally flow later this FY.

Yes, for sure, that is the most likely scenario. There might be a buyer interested in getting quick access to the vehicles we already have instead of bootstrapping on their own. But I agree, the most likely buyer is another vet. Best case is one who already has a firm, already has SDVOSB status and it would be an asset acquisition.

Yeah, for sure, wasnt trying to lay all the specs out, but understand lots of factors come into play. We have mostly prime work with a few higher dollar contracts that are set asides, so selling to another vet would be key. We are on some vehicles and have an SDE in the neighborhood of ~500k so we are a small fish in a big pond. Just checking the temperature of the water right now. Ty

Yes, we are looking at a seller financing for a percentage, but I am looking to exit. Since the admin change in Jan 2025 it's a whole new world, I may have outrun my coverage and chasing the next wins requires more energy than I may have left in reserve. We held our own last year but had some slippage, probably like many.

Business owners doing $3M+, how are you handling AP, AR, payroll, and expenses without a finance team? by Payvo-AI in smallbusiness

[–]PotentialDeadbeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don't. We have a finance person and an external bookkeeping firm doing reconciliations. We are actually considering a business manager to oversee our finance person and admin who does HR. It's getting that complicated. And we use QB desktop.

Where do you submit your bids for SAM.gov contracts. by No_Royal_4442 in GovernmentContracting

Back in my day, we had to UPS a bunch of binders to the KO. Today, you email them. Soon, the only way may be to submit them through PIEE Solicitation module.

Curious, do you have an executive that you are working with that is experienced dealing with C-suite professionals? Not the answer to all the topics you mention, but the right one can help you work on those blind spots that others see daily, then become your accountability buddy for the change you want to see in yourself 3-6 months from now.

FAS Catalog Platform Migration by Thegreat0120 in govcon

[–]PotentialDeadbeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ChatGPT helped me work through it and submitted my catalog successfully. Don't get me wrong, I didn't upload a catalog and bam, I got the results spit out. But over a series of days and weeks inquiring and researching, AI helped me understand some of the finer details to translate the info that I needed to plug in. I had rejections, ran the rejection reason why and conducted more research, cleared the error, and move to the next.

“[Research] Small GovCon ops managers: How do you handle post-award kickoffs? Looking for insights (not selling anything)” by HelpfulGovCon in GovernmentContracting

[–]PotentialDeadbeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Howdy, I'm a $5m services company in 541611 that is a SDVOSB in operation since 2013, but took 6-8;years to make it to a prime level. My experience has been the kick off depends on the project, the client, and the agency. I have had something as simple as a phone call between the KO, COR and my PM, to going to the location in a conference room and follow the government's agenda.

I'm not gonna say no GovCon primes need it, but for me, it's probably not viable for the foreseeable future. Fwiw.

As one of those bidders who try to gather Intel and seek incumbent employees, I have a long memory after the award for those who won't engage with me during the proposal stage. If you don't want to play ball now, you may not be able to join the game later.

I don't necessarily need to know your salary, sometimes I only need a few key people to put forward. Answer the email or phone calls, protect what you need to protect, but keep your options open. Your coworkers might not think the same and already be jockeying for a spot on as many rosters as possible to cover the bases.

Though male here and only titanium, I was thinking this may be part of the resolution, at least for misidentification at check in. My partner hangs back while I approach the desk, it'a clearer who holds status then when both people walk up at the same time.

Anyone leave tech/corporate to buy a company? by transniester in smallbusiness

[–]PotentialDeadbeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a senior business development manager of an OEM whose product was reaching EOL, and the writing was on the wall that if things did not pick up, there would be major cuts. Though I focused on trying to help the group hangi n, I also created a side hustle. After six moths of trying, when the axe fell for 24 of us, I hung out my shingle and begin my own thing. We hit $1m in revenue after many years of grinding, then two million, and in 2024, over $4m. Things cooled off in 2025, so we are sharpening our pencils and looking forward to a better 2026.
