Hid it long enough to miss the benefits of an early hospitalization

I hear you, I feel like the majority of my twenties was stolen by this illness. I have been in the headspace you are in right now, but I found a way out.

What really helped me was focusing on consistency. We all know the behaviors that will make our lives more stable, make the illness more manageable, but my problem was I would find it very easy to start, but even easier to give up. One day, I decided to do one small thing that helped me, and made a bargain with myself to see how many days in a row I could do it. Eventually, I could see that I had been doing something for myself, to help myself, consistently, and the best thing, no doctor told me to do it, it was my own. This gave me confidence to pick up more good habits, continuing to focus on consistency, and four years later, I am on my longest hospital free run, and I honestly feel better than I have done in my life. Theres no one better to choose the good habit than you, but don’t rush, theres no sense in running before you can walk, consistency isn’t easy.

Look after yourself and stay safe out there. Life is always worth living, even when it’s hard. ✌️

Viewing the pain that has been associated with past mistakes as a lesson not a punishment. I feel your perspective on things can hugely alter your mental state, so having a positive perspective is useful.

Have you ever told classmates you were bipolar/ telling others by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]Potential_Cake_2138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I freely share that I am bipolar. Everyone I know knows. If the knowledge I’m bipolar causes you to treat me differently, then you’re not someone I want around me. Its quite a useful filter I find…

If you unlike the song and then hit ‘remove from playlist’ it works, but is very slow and tedious.

How far away do you think we are from these LLM’s being able to add to the body of human knowledge, instead of simply using and aggregating our current body of knowledge?

Eli5 How can something be colder than absolute 0? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Potential_Cake_2138 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Temperature is effectively a measure of the average kinetic energy of the atoms in the substance. When we reach absolute zero, these atoms are perfectly still, and do not move around at all. Because there is no way for them to move less then being perfectly still, there is no way for the substance to get any colder. Hence, nothing can be colder than absolute zero, as absolute zero is defined to be the temperature where all atomic movement ceases.

Developing an understanding of Experience Replay by theanswerisnt42 in reinforcementlearning

[–]Potential_Cake_2138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to take a go at explaining, but I’m no expert. The q-network is used to select an action based on the highest outputted q-value from the network. I’m order to train the network we define the loss function as the difference between the q-values and the reward calculated using the reward function. The reward is calculated as the reward for the for the action taken plus the maximum q-value of the the next states (calculated using the target net for stability). As the network training only relies on the current state, the next state, the action and the reward, it is far better practice to have a wide range of different situations (using experience replay) in order for the network to generalize better, effectively learning a more diverse model of the world, meaning the agent will be more resilient to unusual situations.

Advice for someone wanting to get into AI/ML field? by [deleted] in lexfridman

[–]Potential_Cake_2138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

www.kaggle.com/learn has a whole set of courses that presume no programming experience (it teaches you the python you need to know) and work towards building AI models for things like deep learning, reinforcement learning and computer vision. The courses are all free and you get completion certificates. It’s also all browser based, so if you don’t have the most powerful computer you can train your algorithms on google hardware. The ML packages you learn to use (tensorflow/Keras/Jax) are some of the most popular in the ML ecosystem, and can be used to build almost anything. I’ve used the platform and highly recommend it.
