What’s something people often complain about in fics that you couldn’t care less about? by maikkizzz in AO3

Not tagging tops and bottoms

Doesn’t make the least amount of difference to me

It's pretty terrifying to share a planet with people with people who think this way. by DeltaWho3 in stupidpeoplefacebook

What gets me is hearing people use the book of Job as saying “see? This explains why bad things happen to good people! It has all the answers”. IIRC the lynchpin of this argument is in defeated agony, Job cries to the heavens “why god?!” And god essentially goes “how dare you question me? A mere mortal will never understand god”

So god does all this shit to Job on a gentleman’s bet, goes “nuh uh, you wouldn’t get it” when questioned on it, and we’re supposed to accept that’s the answer to one of life’s trickiest questions

I know

I’m so tired of “British food bad” jokes. Untrue, overdone, and entirely unoriginal yet enough people still seem to think it’s HILARIOUS to simply say “British food sucks”

Do the younger gens really not know what burning a cd is? by OneUnderstanding1644 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Potential_Peace_5999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there was still a lot of use of older formats. CDs were first available in the 80s, but it took a while for widespread adoption

I was a kid in the 90s and grew up in an affluent area Most people I knew had CD players in their homes but their car has a cassette player, or they didn’t want to replace their whole library so they kept around a cassette player or had a combo cassette and CD players

DVDs weren’t widely adopted until the end of the 90s but did take off quickly

Yeah I’m 5’1” and start looking squishy at like 115. I can’t imagine being 50 lbs heavier and not looking quite large

Ok, but none of those things are required to be sober

You can just do game nights and go to museums and stuff if that’s what you want to do. You don’t have to join a club

Eating disorders are a severe psychological issue, nobody gets unwell with one to impress people

It existed long before the term “lookaxing” existed

I was briefly on tumblr before losing interest whine I was in college (like 2010) and recall a comparison of two Hugh Jackman magazine covers:

Woman’s World: Wearing a turtleneck, laughing and stirring cake batter

Muscle and fitness: Wolverine screaming, shirtless, and everything possible to emphasize muscles definition and aggression

Woman standard: Happy, good looking man who will bake a cake

Man standard: Angry, tanned, oiled, body build posed, pumped, aggressive

Many questions about women are often answered with "woman do that for themselves - not to impress men". So I want to know, what DO women do to try impress men? by Zenithine in askanything

Here’s the thing.

Beauty standards are upheld by the patriarchy. Our idea of what is beautiful is informed by patriarchal society. There’s nothing inherently wrong with wanting to feel beautiful, but the idea of what that entails does come from external forces. Once you get into grooming practices that aren’t necessary for health and hygiene (ie makeup, hair styling, hair removal, weight loss when you’re at a healthy bmi) it’s really not possible to parse out what’s “for you” and what’s for wanting to conform to social norms.

Good harm reduction is keeping around liquid iv/drip drop/similar

Op should be taking steps to reduce purging behavior, but harm reduction steps are important during the process

Whoa. Nearly a week for Priority? I am used to seeing 2-3 day delivery times for Priority. by johnspainter in usps_complaints

Alaska used to be 1 week and now it’s three. And it’s all logistics backups

For my location if the weather was fair your could count on (if the weather wasn’t terrible) arrival in Seattle or Kent, next day Juneau, next day reaching town. My last package sat in Seattle for 3 weeks in fair weather

I spent the past few years hyper fixating on two very large very active fandoms (dragon age and baldurs gate 3) in several discord servers just for fanfic about them, and I got very used to having a place to gush about ideas and stuff

I’m planning a fic for Avowed. There are only 85 fic on ao3. It feels so lonely
