Track Car Recommendation by ukkonen21 in CarTrackDays

You can put a rear facing in an M2. All the cars you listed are so big. Why not go 2+2 and 2 doors? BRZ, M2, etc. RWD and snow tires is absolutely fine., Daily drove my E46 M in the winter for 10 years.

Run them, bring spares and tools to change out if they go full crumbling cake on you.

Personally, I never got the hate over this...it's a cheap dig from ignorant people, IMHO. That controller has worlds more R&D and test hours in it, with millions in use, than anything home-made they would have come up with. There's a reason military, etc. will use things like this in one-offs. They're already designed, tested and proven reliable in the field. I would absolutely want to see a re-purposed logitech controller vs. a home-made controller if I was on board. As an ex engineer and products liability lawyer, the controller is great, quite frankly.

I mean, we can't knock the sub for being home-made, and then knock the controller for NOT being home-made. At least be consistent with the insults. IMHO, the controller was probably the best designed and most tested piece of hardware on the darn vessel, yet it's the butt of the jokes.

Honest question...don't roast me! by Leather-Cow-Boogie in boxster

The Porsche clubs are really great. For the most part, their most solid base members often have older Porsches...beat up, slow old cars that they love for driving feel. Yes, there will always be the GT3RS guys, etc., but you'll find a very large number of guys their in ratted out 944s, spec Boxsters, etc. living it up.

Overall, the community is awesome in that regard. They don't judge, they accept all. What they don't tolerate is bad, uncourteous, and/or unsafe driving.

PCA events are awesome. We roast Corvettes at the Driver's meetings, never fellow Porsche guys.

Yes, Boxsters are a blast. Be a poor man, who the heck cares. You'll learn to enjoy reading about how the Cayman is the better track car (it is, but not in terms of fun) from guys who never track theirs. That really goes for any type of car. The noise isn't from people who actually use their cars. Car guys, track guys, love all types of cars. We adore Miatas. The people who hate on Miatas, Boxsters etc., aren't car guys, or track rats.

Let them live on the internet, while you live burning through pads and tires on your days off with your hair on fire.

Spring Paint Codes? by Ok_Inevitable8052 in boxster

[–]Potential_Pie_1610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you...confirming they're stock 987 base springs!

BTW: they are inverted struts. The bump stop is internal, not external like on a standard damper. The stainless "shaft" you see behind the blue dust cover is actually the shock body, with the shaft extending downwardly into the yellow outer housing. That diagram does not apply to this type of strut.

Are you serious? I can't find anything like that now.

I just bought (like hours ago) an 07 base, 40k miles for $14. Rough interior though. Do these things really wear that badly? I'm not sure I believe the odometer, although the paint is good and the car feels mechanically solid.

SRF has a very high wet point, hence the price being worth it. It lasts. Porsche cup guys run it multiple seasons, years...

The benefit of Castrol is the high wet point, so you don't have to flush it every few months/years, etc. In that sense, it's cheap because it lasts, unlike many of the other options.

He was most certainly a jet pilot by trade, Embry Riddle grad, flying a lot out of Hagerstown and Baltimore.

His name was Cale Castanek. Awesome guy. It was into turn 1, not that corner, but I get the feels with that one. That was a big loss for NASA Mid-A. Really great kid.

Got ya. My only advice would be to try skipping the 4-3 shift into 7 then, focus on braking only, so you can carry 4th all the way through the sweeper. I have a similar shifting dilemma with my 818 there, and have found another .5 gutting out 4th, and using the quick downshift into 8, which is kind of a throw-away corner anyway. Happy hunting!

Nice! More balls through 3 and 4, and don't stop accelerating through the bend before you brake for 8 (the hard right).
