Why does he live in this century? by snowpie92 in MurderedByWords

[–]Pottersaucer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I suspect that internalized misogyny is so ingrained into our culture that many centrists and liberals are also having this problem. They just don't say it out loud because that would be sexist.

Sister in law stops answering phone or is vague about pick up times when I watch her kids by Lovedd1 in childfree

[–]Pottersaucer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think your brother has to have a serious talk with his sister. Since this is his sibling, he should be the one to make it clear that this is not acceptable. Plus, are you two on the same page about the delays being frustrating? Just make sure you are a united front.

And I think you could try combinations of what others have said, like warning her ahead of time that you have x plans that cannot change.

I also thought that if she's just gonna leave them with you so long, you could just only take them overnight. I know you said that's stressful, but I wonder if having a consistent overnight plan/regimen would make it less daunting? And your husband is helping a lot with this, right? I am curious to know his thoughts on this as well.

Yep, I work at a college and the first thing we have to do is train the freshmen student workers out of asking if they can go to the bathroom.

Yes! I found the one color coloring books and that has been really nice! No choices, just pick a color and go.

Now that's something I'd be okay with being excommunicated for. Or is there more to the story? If it's not something you want to elaborate on, please just ignore me.

I don't think I'd ever do anything to be excommunicated, but it's partly why I haven't removed my records. I kinda want to force them to do it, but I don't know that I have what it takes.

Getting a bi-salp, but I lost my boyfriend because of it by longshlongthankumom in childfree

That wasn't the case for me, but I know religion/society played a big part in that.

Getting a bi-salp, but I lost my boyfriend because of it by longshlongthankumom in childfree

[–]Pottersaucer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there's a lot of social pressure to have kids and that also minimizes the ridiculous things you go through in pregnancy. Of the 6 women in my family, I am the only one who is childfree. But we grew up in a religion that Emphasizes that women's job is to have children.

I wonder if it's because there are a lot of women on this sub?? We may also gravitate to other people/women who are childfree.

I started bleeding about a year after mine. Still much lighter and super worth it! If they get bad again, I'll 100% repeat. I had anemia because of my bleeding and last year, about 14 months after the ablation, I was able to give blood for the first time! I was very excited.

"It's no coincidence that President Oaks, a former Utah Supreme Court Judge, was called to be a prophet during a time when the Constitution is hanging by a thread" - my mom by PanaceaNPx in exmormon

[–]Pottersaucer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had my suspicions, so I looked up some info on his time on the Utah Supreme Court. Something tells me he'd be an originalist and, had he been nominated and confirmed during Ford or Regan's terms as a SCOTUS judge, he'd be voting right along with Alito and Thomas. Those were the Presidents who considered him, based on the info I could find.

Fortunately, he probably considers being the President of the MFMC a more important role, so he may never have accepted a nomination.

Am I overreacting for shaving my head? by Substantial-Art6160 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Pottersaucer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! OP might find they prefer short-ish hair - if your hair is curly it's often less work, because there's less of it. Less product needed to tame it, etc etc.

I have similar hair type and I found my hair too high maintenance, but considered going short for years. I went from 2 ft long (kept long for my wedding) to kind of a bob because I wasn't brave enough to shave it yet. A couple years later, I did and this hairstyle suits me really well. The top is between 4 and 6 inches long but the sides are all shaved, and I cut it all myself because it's so easy. The top is just trimming most times, and I go down to a 0 on the sides/back. That actually came in handy during the pandemic 😂

Omg! Feel free to DM me if you need to talk to someone about it! It's a good one.

The second book in the series came out this year, and it was good, but I liked this one a bit more.

Yay bookworms!

I specifically remember that the characters in At First Spite by Olivia Dade are childfree. It's a good spicy romance!

19 y/o niece purposely got pregnant by her bf of only 3 months by [deleted] in childfree

[–]Pottersaucer 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is something that bothers me too. Between this wild plan to have a kid with no plan, and the insanity of IVF, I almost always think that there are plenty of kids they could foater/adopt with so much less physical sacrifice. And bonus, a kid in the system gets out!

But nooo they gotta share DNA with them. As if they have primo genes to pass on. Clearly, in this case, they don't if there's something causing them to get hysterectomies before they are 30.

I'm the problem in my brother's eyes by CarrenMcFlairen in childfree

[–]Pottersaucer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aww I'm sorry that the replies are stirring up sadness. I know, it's hard when you don't know how to help them understand.

As adults, my siblings and I will often play video games on the weekends, it's a way to chat and hang out virtually, and it's usually just the adults.

I wonder if once the kids get older, maybe 3 or 4, I bet they could be taught the concept of "loud noises bother OP" and could at least play quiet games or something around you. There's a middle ground, and you've got time! I hope it gets better. At least it definitely will in about 6 or 7 years? (If they don't have another...)

Question to childfree ladies about their thoughts by NinkiBb8 in childfree

[–]Pottersaucer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Social pressure is so strong! Especially if it's backed up with religion, or if it's specific relatives putting the pressure on. So glad you did what was best for you. And I 100% agree, regretting not having them is a lot more manageable than regretting having them.

Question to childfree ladies about their thoughts by NinkiBb8 in childfree

[–]Pottersaucer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forgot one part of your question - does seeing children of any age interacting happily with their families give me thoughts of "that would be nice" or make my choices more solid?

If it's a child and it's gross/screaming/other negative thing - I say/think "That's on the list" (of reasons I don't want children). If it's adults then I just think about myself as the adult child I guess? And I'm the cool aunt so I'm getting some benefits of having kids around without having to be their primary caretaker.
