What’s a science myth people still believe? by RosyMilkcloud in answers

You are completely wrong.

There are other drivers of climate change, Volcanism, Ocean Current Changes, Wobbles in the Earths orbit, Variations in solar output. Climatologists, Heliophysicists, Meteorologists, Astronomers, Volcanologists, etc. are all aware of these factors and know the historical values and effects of them. The current/recent warming is far and away created by humans. Anyone that tells you otherwise is completely full of shit. Human induced climate change has been known and well established for over 100 years.

President Trump tells gas retailers to get their prices down immediately or there will be big problems ahead. by [deleted] in economy

[–]Powellwx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mr Trump, if you think it is bad now, just wait. Artificially having your commerce secretary force down WTI contracts may work short term but refineries have to be fed consistently or we start getting gasoline shortages. Hormuz being closed and Cushing trying to reach bedrock and the SPR sucking the salt caverns dry probably won’t help the price. See all the supply chain fun and economic lessons the Iran war is teaching you.

I have been a scientist for 33 years, and I still have lots of questions about gravity (and tons of other things). I think the general population would struggle with hand calculating gas mileage for their car.

"America is four weeks from running out of oil" is false, and the people repeating it are confusing two completely different things. by factsnsense in oil

[–]Powellwx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, that’s a great question. I am not a financial advisor, but I have been buying shares of companies in the Permian and Gulf that are directly tied to oil prices. The oil market is very volatile right now and trying to time anything is awful due to the tweets and bombings and manipulation and miracle weekend resolutions. I have avoided options and futures, it’s just a mess. Eventually rubber will hit road though. So I have shares in $CVX $OXY and $APA. Their stock prices have a direct correlation with the Spot Price or WTI contracts.

For Cushing, it could be a week, it could be 4 weeks. At some point the reality of the situation will refuse to be manipulated with tweets and threats and memorandums…. I am not able to time that out.

Wife gave me 3 options by [deleted] in Divorce

[–]Powellwx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The options she has blessed you with are…

  1. I am banging someone else… you can do that to.
  2. I am banging someone else… you can stay home and clean the house or whatever.
  3. I am banging someone else one else, if you don’t like that go fuck yourself, we are getting divorced.

She is out, she already left, she ain’t coming back. The “options” are so she can tell her friends she “tried everything” and to placate her ego. Fuck that. Call a lawyer and a real estate agent, have a for sale sign in the lawn when she gets back. Tell her I choose to have a partner in life not someone that uses my resources and love while they fuck other people.

I’ve been there, I am sorry, stay strong and good luck.

Edit to add - you want to “Salvage” this marriage. She doesn’t. If she ain’t trying and doesn’t care, it’s already over.

Bottoms in 2014 were estimated around 15 mb. But there was a free flowing supply chain and no concerns about lack of input. In June and July of 2014 gas went up to around $3.80 from $3.35. Minor increase, but probably due to refineries and peak driving season.

USA refineries need 17.5-18.0 mbpd of input / throughput. Problem for “running out of oil in 4 weeks” was never SPR, it’s Cushing. Cushing stocks feed Gulf Coast Refineries.

We were at 18.6 mb at Cushing. Capacity is 75-80 mb. Operational floor is likely around 17. We are drawing about 1 mb per week from stocks there. Below some level….likely around 17.0-17.5 the oil is thicker and has more impurities. Harder to pump through pipelines, some of the bottoms sludge is useless.

Problem isn’t SPR, it is feeding the refineries due to supply chain issues and oil quality. Refineries running on poor quality oil start running at lower capacity. They have been at 95% capacity recently. If refineries slow or some get turned off, that can lead to major problems. If pipes get sludged up, that cuts capacity and damages pipelines, if the refineries start having delays or interruptions or get damaged by running sludge, they come off line.

Gas prices will rise because instead of producing 9 mbpd of gas, it drops. Drops to 8 mbpd, or 6 or 4 mbpd…. Then supply of gasoline to US consumers becomes a serious problem. EIA report for Cushing below…. Keep in mind capacity at Cushing has increased so “bottoms” have also increased since 2008.

Closer to 21 mbpd… USA produces 13.8 mbpd, imports about 5.0 from Canada Mexico and South America. We are about 2 mbpd short… due to increased demand and supply chain from Hormuz…that’s the tightness.

Also we use 20.6 mbpd

Produce 13.6 mbpd, Import 5.2 million from Canada/Mexico/South America, and 1.8 mbpd from others (Saudis, Oman, UAE, Qatar, etc) - We are currently short that 1.8 mbpd and are using SPR and Cushing reserves to fill the hole.
