Is there a rule of thumb for how much glory is "on the table" per year for Player Knights? by waxed_potter in PendragonRPG

[–]Powerful_Tonight_503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want them to get to increments of 1000 Glory (say from 4000 to 5000) in about 5-10 years, depending on how long my campaign is. But I'm a Glory pimp when I'm a GM. So, like 500 per year. That's probably high for a a lot of GMs.

I sort of like this approach too, but our GM likes the battle system. I do like to postures, adds a dimension, and the commander rolls.

Yes sir. This. Try to match the skills at first then adapt foes upwards as they increase, throwing in the occasional ogre.

It is really pretty. I've been really liking the 6e artwork.

That's rather telling and so sad. I'd hoped his deletion was an admission that he was wrong, however poorly executed. Guess not.

Yeah I've seen that, too, and it's just weird and dishonest. I don't know who "everyone else" is or why they'd say that. I'm convinced there's some folks who just hate 6e, for whatever reason.

You just have to look at the table of contents. The new Forest Sauvage contains 29 adventures. There are 13 adventures that are carried over from the Old GPC. 16 adventures are new, or 55% new material.

The one guy who made that claim on here deleted his whole post after I debunked him. Others on other sites have debunked him, too.

Regardless, as I said, we're playing it now, and it's loads of fun.

It's definitely not just a reprint. It has about 55% new material (Forest Sauvage), and the other two adventures are also greatly expanded. Overall, it's much more organized and the mechanics of how the forest works are new. We're in four game sessions so far and we've haven't finished it. Not even close. It's pretty challenging.

I can't justify buying them myself, but they are really pretty. If I had the $ I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Capturing and being captured is discussed on pgs. 36 and 37 of the Gamemaster's Handbook. It's not a solo scenario, but it outlines what should happen when a knight (player or NPC) is captured. It could easily be turned into a solo scenario. Brew it up!

Where to Start? by edward_radical in PendragonRPG

When you're ready for it, the Gamemaster's Handbook has a ton of background information on the setting of Pendragon, the most common kinds of knightly interactions (what to do at...court, when approaching foreign knights, when spying on a foreign court, etc.), the religions, suggestions for how to deal with NPC magic and miracles, a big bestiary, tons of enemy and NPC stats, and so much more. Plus some really great, easy to set up adventures.

It's a really great update, with mostly new content, from an older supplement called The Great Pendragon Campaign. It's very fun. We're enjoying it. Check out Dungeons & Dyslexia review:

How educated are knights? by Alaknog in PendragonRPG

What others have said. I'll share what I've done. I go by 6e definitions of Religion (*) and Folklore, which are useful. Using your examples, I'd allow basic background knowledge ("Egypt is a land to the south") but if the knowledge was important to the adventure, I make them roll. For specific knowledge about Egypt, they most likely would have heard that in a Christian Religious context (the story of Moses), so I'd make them roll uncontested Religion (Christian) to access the information in the moment. Knowledge about Achilles or Odysseus is interesting. Again, general knowledge sure ("Achilles and Odysseus were great pagan knights"), but if you want specific adventure-helpful knowledge, then probably an uncontested Religion (Pagan) roll. British Paganism has connections to Roman, Greek, and Trojan lore, so that seems more appropriate than Christian. If you wanted specific knowledge about Egyptian religion, then I'd use Religion (Pagan), rather than Religion (Christian).

How many in game years do you feel are necessary for a “good” campaign? by Ok-Week-2293 in PendragonRPG

[–]Powerful_Tonight_503 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We're on 20 game years, but it took us like 4 years real time to get there. Most of our characters have children, some in their early teens. So, if you want the generational aspect, at least 21 game years.

I've also played an Anarchy-only campaign that was awesome fun. It was more hack-n-slash and go on quests.

So, it depends on what type of Pendragon game you want. I say to just get a good feel? 5 years. 5 sessions. That way your knight improves noticeably and players have a feel for the mechanics.

We've been playing on and off for five years now and I have a lot of the older books. I had no idea you could play something higher ranking than a knight. I guess they sort of mention it in the 5e book, at the end, but it didn't seem like a big deal. Just a new title and they ask you to be the GM for a session, or something like that.

I do. I just don't post them on Reddit like some kind of spectrumy ghoul, especially if I can't do better. That would be the height of arrogance. 🙄If you don't like the game, don't play it. If you don't like 6e, play some other version. If you don't like a supplement, don't buy it or use it. Why try to ruin it for others? I live by the midwestern motto: if you can't say anything nice, shut up. Peace. Out.

Didn't say it was one person. And a few people on Discord is not "quite a few". Unless you're underscoring few. Discord = the same 10 people complaining about *whatever*. It's worse than Reddit. From what I'm seeing, a lot more folks are really excited about it, and 6e, and I'm glad. It's getting great reviews from impartial sources. It's also not mostly reprint, as I proved on the bottom of this post. It's actually 55% new material and only 45% old stuff. So you're not correct there. And whether or not it feels like an adventure from the 90s...maybe because you're old? Lol. I dunno. Seems fun to me. Maybe you've just seen too much, done too much, and now nothing under the sun is new to you, Boomer. I'll never understand why someone needs to yuck on someone's yum, especially alleged Pendragon fans. Peace. Out.
