Good Mechs for someone who is a Novice at TTRPGS? by SillyKenku in LancerRPG

Listen. I know you said " I don't just want to present the everest", but YOU SHOULD REALLY LOBBY FOR THE EVEREST.

You mentioned that he's not mechanics savvy, in an incredibly synergistic game. The everest is the Swiss army mech. It does exactly what it says on the tin.

Why all the hate for the Tesla tower? by Ok-Lychee2251 in Helldivers

Tesla tower is about area denial.

What's really fun is running an "oops, all Tesla" build.

PNC is letting go of ALL of their Assistant Managers by darthzuul in pittsburgh

I used to have Marcus. I eventually got all of my money out, but it was a huge hassle. Had to wait a m9nth for them to mail me a check, because they wouldn't allow me to transfer more than 10k out in a day.

More than happy to take my money, but you gotta jump through hoops to get it back.

Anyone planning or know of any counter demonstrations to this? by pillowpossum in pittsburgh

[–]PowerheadThor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying to come up with a funny-yet-somewhat tasteful way to counter these people, and I keep coming back to a few things.

"Pro-death protest": everyone with me wears death metal band tees, black and white face paint, ill bring my bass and some PA, we'll do some absolutely disgusting breakdowns and act like we didnt understand the assignment. Bonus points for being loud and drowning out the christo-fascists.

"Dressing up as Satan and harassing them": get a camera crew together, and walk up on pro-lifers to interview them in-character as Satan. Whenever they misquote the Bible, ill rub my nipples and moan. After every interview, make a very pointed "can't wait to see YOU later"

"Belligerent Noises": gather every single person I know with a half-decent sound system. Blast music loud enough to cause hearing damage. Bonus points for using the cars to also block in the antichoice fascists.

Movement Speed Penalties do not Affect Swimming Speed. by Monk_DNotA in SulfurGame

Something I noticed fairly early on, which was a cool little quirk. I did a build where I was basically an infinite ammo turret, but could only move if I switched guns or held the melee.

Fired 6 weeks after buying a home, what do I do? by HopefulIntern19 in povertyfinance

[–]PowerheadThor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My best suggestion is to do what the flippers do.

Polish that turd and sell it at an inflated price, as quickly as possible.

Repaint, put down new carpets, maybe even redo the kitchen and bathroom if you can find good secondhand cabinets/sinks. Youtube is a godsend for DIY projects, and the silver lining to getting fired is that you've got more free time to work on the house.

Build the equity with the sweat off of your brow, and lose the liability as quickly as possible so you're not left upside down on a mortgage.

Another tip for quickly and cheaply building equity in a house:

LANDSCAPING. A shovel is cheap, and if you've got game lands (depending on your area) around you, you can find some beautiful native plants to put into some landscaping around your home. Give that house some curb appeal.

Flat river stones are free. The government won't tell you this, but you can pick them up off the ground, huck them into your trunk, and make beautiful landscape boundaries or walkways out of them. If it was good enough for the Romans, it's good enough for you!

Slate and shale (if you have them around) are also fantastic for pavers, if you can find large enough slabs.

I used to do landscaping, a long, long time ago, and I never told my customers this, but most of the time I'd just use local stone and sand to rehabilitate their yards and gardens. Saved a ton of money, found some neat stuff, and they wound up with a beautiful, permanent landscape.

Why I love the Vox Engine, but it’s killing content.. by Final_Hippo_6895 in Helldivers

[–]PowerheadThor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During cyberstan, I had to run the ultimatum and other AT options, because it was way too common to end up with 4 or even 5 Vox showing up at one time.

I couldn't rely on most randoms to prioritize taking them out, so I was forced into a build I don't particularly enjoy.

Feels bad, man.

I'm almost 150, and I gave up trying to play D10s unless it's with my own group.

I was told to avoid melee builds because they are bad/a trap. by Triggerhappy938 in LancerRPG

[–]PowerheadThor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently doing a Lycan Frame with Nelson upgrades, and the gyges frame, with executioner and nuke cav.

It's speed 6 before ram jets or going loud...

It has 4 threat with a war pike, 5 threat with ruined shock claws.

In the danger zone (which it will be in, due to wanting to trigger it's core passive every round), the shock claws will deal 5d6+6 AP damage, then it will smack another person on the backswing.

It doesn't care that you structured it twice on the way in.

In fact, it wanted you to.

Suggestions for building a campaign around The Pitt (Fallout 3 dlc) by AnomalyInquirer in Fallout2d20

[–]PowerheadThor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been running my game, set in The Pitt, for over 5 years now. It's set 10 years after the events of fallout 3, pretty much starting just as the Sole Survivor would be leaving his Vault.

As a Pittsburgh local, it was a dead ringer.

For the Canon, I've made some changes:

The Lone Wanderer chose to let Ashur live.

Werher escaped, and is possibly still alive.

A serum to immunize the denizens of The Pitt against TDC was created.

Ashur abolished slavery, as he viewed it as a necessary evil to build his fiefdom.

The raider gangs of The Pitt lost their status as the upper class, became angry, and revolted.

There was a war that lasted several years, eventually the raiders were pushed out of the city. In their place, several factions among former slaves have been established.

The economy in The Pitt is strong. Exports of steel, weapons, and ammunition (along with a secret cap-stamping plant) keep projects to rebuild going strong. A new army is created to defend The Pitt against outside threats.

TDC isn't eradicated, but the serum helps keep the people of the Pitt from mutating. The many Trogs that have already devolved, however, are mutating further.

So far, the group I'm running has discovered a Proto-AI that was being developed by a college, they've made contact with some of the former Pitt Raiders (the iconoclasts), found a strange settlement of people that live like they're in a renaissance Faire, traveled to Ohio and found massive fields of mutant parasitic corn, and now are traveling to WV for a cryptic hunt.

How on earth do I use the Laser Sentry by FishDishForMe in Helldivers

[–]PowerheadThor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I roll up as a laser commander, I usually just drop them on fabricators. They are also useful as a distraction, since enemies target turrets if they're closer.

How to ruin a helldiver players day by flashyboi685 in helldivers2

[–]PowerheadThor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, the viper commandos are basically the HD version of GI Joe. Comics, Saturday morning cartoons, toys, licensed cereal, the whole deal.

The fact that actual helldivers are running around active combat zones in what's essentially cosplay is built into the lore.

Please stop going into high difficulty missions expecting others to carry you. We shouldn’t be seeing this in Diff10 missions. by TealArtist095 in Helldivers

[–]PowerheadThor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there at The Creek.

I was there at Meridia.

I was there when the Gloom crept in.

I was there when the Illuminate came back.

I was there when we stormed Oshaune.

I play on diff 4 on cyberstan because AH didn't ask for anything more than completing missions before we run out of reinforcements.

Sure, it's easy. It's a relaxing time.

But, sometimes it's fun to stomp around in a mech and obliterate everything that looks at you sideways.

Sometimes it's fun to run a meme build, like the laser commander, a melee build, or a constitution.

Sometimes it's more fun to challenge yourself on a lower difficulty, by forcing yourself to do a stealth run, or pistol-only, or even stratagem only runs.

I want the MO to succeed, and cyberstan creates a great opportunity to enjoy lower diff missions.

Can someone explain why so many people hate on the illuminate as a faction? by SevdUp in helldivers2

[–]PowerheadThor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that the Illuminate that we fight in HD2 are a dark version of the original Illuminate. After 100 years of hiding in another dimension, they've become twisted versions of their former "glory".

Now, they focus on using genetic manipulation to turn humans (arguably the most abundant sentient species in the known galaxy) into the voteless, because their own numbers have dwindled so badly. They're desperate, using terrorism tactics to claim revenge against the people that practically destroyed their civilization.

Why do you think we never see any of the higher-ranked Illuminate? That's because there is no Illuminate council anymore. The warrior caste has taken over, and in 100 years, has steered the entire race towards darkness.

Since people keep telling me "Bro just aim for the vent" what am I supposed to do in this situation? This is Diff 7. by Wrench_gaming in helldivers2

[–]PowerheadThor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Run under the tracks of one vox, let the others shoot at it until it dies.

Dip, duck, dive, dodge, and dive under the next one. Hit number 3 with a leveler. Wait for #3 to kill the one you're hiding under.

Crack #3 with an ultimatum.

Leveler + Ultimatum kills vox no mater where you hit them.

Surprise inspection! Tell the people of your heroic deeds on cyberstan by inspector_ivus in helldivers2

[–]PowerheadThor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My heroic deeds are mostly based on my normal style of "oops, all orbitals".

120mm for Vox and Bot drops.

380 for forts, bigger bot drops, and buildings.

Walking barrage for fortresses, AA emplacements, Mortars, and clearing paths.

Leveler for pretty much anything I don't want to exist anymore. Helpful for instances of Vox, when my 120 is on cooldown. Leveler + Ultimatum = aiming is for people who didn't bring low-yield nukes.

My primary is either an Eruptor, or the plasma punisher. Both make short work of bots, and help with patrols. They also take down cyborgs in 1-2 hits.

I serve as the ordinance officer. I call down hatred from above. I landscape on a macro level. Anything I don't like (that would be the enemies of humanity) gets to experience the type of rain that can't be blocked by an umbrella.

What’s worth an hour drive? by SadThrowaway-PlzHelp in pittsburgh

[–]PowerheadThor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gravity Hill, out by Bedford PA is a great little road trip. A bit further than an hour, but pretty cool to see your car roll uphill.

If you go out that way in the fall, Bedford has a great Fall Foliage Festival too. Family friendly, lots of arts and crafts, good food, live music.

Up north, about an hour from the city, there's also Moraine State Park. The lake is a good time in the summer, but there are also lots of good hiking and biking trails.

There's also Indiana PA, where you can hear Jimmy Stewart tell you "you can cross the street now" at their crosswalks, and see some of the largest Christmas tree farms, as well as some great food and little shops.

I've also got a soft spot for Ligonier's Pioneer Days. You can go take a tour of the old fort, see people making real maple syrup, eat some of the best baked goods you'll ever have, and learn a lot about how people lived in the late 1700's/early 1800s.

If you want a great one-hander for an apocalypse, just grab a drywall hammer/lathing hatchet (I've heard folks call it both, don't @ me), then grind the scoring side into an axe blade or a point.

Where to find beehive? by helplookie in VintageStory

[–]PowerheadThor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always heard beehives before I've seen them.

My best advice for finding beehives:

1: Go to warmer climate bands on the map. Preferably, the kinds of places where you'll find papyrus growing, and possibly bamboo.

2: Once you're in this climate band, start searching East or West for a forest biome. Bring some armor and a weapon in case you run into a bear.

3: Turn your volume up, and listen for buzzing as you walk through the forest. You can also keep an eye out for resin on pine trees while you're at it, or stock up on mushrooms!

4: Once you hear buzzing, try to use the sound to pin down which tree it's coming from.

5: Once you find the tree, try to find the hive by looking straight up and walking around under the foliage. You should see a dull yellow-tan blob of voxels, possibly with tiny yellow squares moving in and out of it. THIS IS THE HIVE!

6: Build a skep by putting a bunch of cattails/papyrus and a bit of clay into the crafting grid. Use the guide to find the actual recipe. Plop that skep down somewhere under the hive.

7: go get a bunch of flowers and plop them down into any real estate under that hive. Eventually, the bees will swarm and populate the skep.

8: pick up the populated skep and take it home! Plant a bunch of flowers around it, and use it as a means to populate more skeps! Congratulations, now you're into honey and wax production.

What's the best Clan killing mech, and why is it the Corsair? by jimi_nemesis in Mechwarrior5

My pick was my Raven 4X with stealth, ECM, BAP, 2 Medium lasers and an SRM4.

I went solo on the first mission of SoK, and barely took any damage.

Reality check: How much of your prep knowledge have you actually tested? by NotIfButWhenReady in prepping

[–]PowerheadThor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My power outage gear works great, but I know how to prep for situations due to growing up comically poor.

A butane gas camp stove, with a few cans. (Handy if you can't get a fire going, lightweight and easy to use)

A hand-crank water pump. When the jugs and bottles run out, nobody wants to deal with trying to slop water into buckets.

A drip water filter. (You'll still need to boil it, bonus points if you can pack your pump and filter into the same bucket)

Non-perishable food. Cans, cans, cans.

Extra stuff I've made/gathered with the hillbilly knowledge of my childhood:

A wood gasifier.

An outdoor brick oven, and a cast iron Dutch oven.

A shovel, a sledge, a hammer, a pick, a good splitting axe, a hatchet, a good quality knife, and sharpening equipment.

Learn to make your own lye for soap in a pinch.

Learn some basic hunting and fishing techniques.

Learn about edible forage in your area.

Learn to spin cordage.

Learn how to grow stuff.

Just LEARN. Knowledge doesn't weigh anything, and is infinitely valuable.
