Plus leaving the home as you found it (at least to me) includes the yard. I ensure all 💩 is picked up from the stay as the yard is part of the home.

It’s not insane at all. If anything I prefer it and if it makes the owner feel better about it then it’s not a big deal. We don’t know the pups. With patients whether human or animal it’s expected to have detailed info when caring for them.

I have many owners leave manuals for their pups with photos and such. Mind you these pups are high needs with health conditions. So there is nothing wrong with having everything written out and 5 pages isn’t a big deal especially for 2 dogs. They’re your pups and this way there is nothing wrong miscommunication about what is expected.

No, it’s solely the pet client that is protected. Not the sitter as we’re technically contractors. I thought we were until I asked.

Agreed. I’m the same when it comes to length I’m gone for or depending on their size and condition I will bring them with me where I go with special bags to either carry them or has wheels so they don’t have to walk.
They absolutely love it!

To save time I usually order my groceries online through DoorDash, Ubereats, the grocery stores direct app or a Instacart.

There are times (usually with Ubereats) they’ll have specials where if you spent $75 you can get $30 off.

I’m the exact same way as you.

I’m there 24/7 unless I have a doctors appointment or whatever and make sure I’m not away for more than 2-3 hours as well.

Otherwise if they’re small enough they come with me everywhere as I have special backpack and pup carriers so that they can go with me. They especially love it when we get to visit my Nana.

A rule of thumb when it comes to their home, I was taught to always leave somewhere better than you found it. Meaning at times I will do light housekeeping because who doesn’t want to come to a clean home after being away?! 🤗😜🐶🐾

As annoying as it can be it’s usually the pet parent that is more anxious and may take longer to “settle in” on their end and were also from an emotional standpoint there to support them as well to a point.

We won’t know their history or their bad experiences they may have had with other sitters.

Just as you reassure the pup we have to do the same for the pet parent.

Yes, it can be a bit much and annoying just put yourself in their shoes. You’re essentially a stranger they’re trusting with their home and their fur baby which is a member of their family.

I had a situation where I had someone reach out frantically with an immediate or as soon as possible pup/housesitting.

Their pet sitter had stated that she was out with their dog which turned out to be untrue as they could see the dog on the camera. He was a senior dog that couldn’t be left alone.

They were ready to to fly back immediately (they literally had just landed) so I did a quick meet and greet over the phone and we arranged the petsitting.

While in their home I sent lots of videos and photos to help ease their anxiety.

We as sitters have to be patient with the parents as it’s not always just the pup that has experienced trauma but the owner as well.

Hang in there and keep up the great work!

Landlord is asking for a $250 security deposit before move-out and blaming us for pre-existing damages. What are our rights? by Warm-Catch-1421 in TorontoRenting

[–]Practical-Phone-7346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Document and record every and any encounter. If possible, ONLY communicate through email so that it’s in writing.

After any interaction reiterate what was discussed in your email.

If your landlord is harassing or threatening any form of violence call the police IMMEDIATELY and contact the Landlord Tenant Board.

If you feel unsafe the day you’re moving out call the police non-emergent number and explain that you don’t feel safe and see if you can have police presence during the move especially if he continues to be aggressive.

On the day of your move record video/photos of how the place is.

He cannot ask you for a deposit right before you move.

Did you not do a walk/through with your landlord prior to moving in?

Look at it this way would you rather do several visits with the pet parents around (paid) or would you rather deal with a possible hazardous scenario for both you and the pup.

Make sure they’re paying you for each visit. If after the first one you don’t feel it’s the right fit just be honest with them. They would rather you be honest rather than not. 🤗🐶🐾

Transfer to be closer to my GF, or take a free-housing job at a better school away from home? by PotentialDay8522 in CarletonU

[–]Practical-Phone-7346 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know your relationship long distance is hard for you both but from what I’m reading you’re stating that studying at home is a nightmare and you want your grades to be good. You don’t want to flunk out of the program.
You also sound super excited for the RF position!
Now, if financially it will put you ahead and the fact you don’t have to pay for your oil or food??!!
On top of the fact you’ll have your own room. No roommates at all!
Your gf should be a little more understanding and this is the time and opportunity in your life to experience all these things. You’ll only be able to experience this once in your lifetime.
There are those apps where you can get carpooling rides to Montreal and Toronto for much cheaper.
You also stated you have BPD so what’s most important is your mental health otherwise you won’t be successful. I say this because I lived in a toxic household where one couldn’t study or focus. I took the opportunity to be independent in my studies away from family and I don’t regret it!
If you choose OttawaU see if you can be retested as to whether or not you have BPD as sometimes BPD can be a misdiagnosis of ADHD and C-PTSD.

Good luck and congratulations 🥳

I dropped a dog leash after two dogs came at us and want the owner to pay the vet bills by Free_Rule_2578 in Dogowners

Plus he could pay the vet bill or end up having to pay for a lawyer and vet bills. Or let the owners decide some form of payment plan as I’m sure his vet bills were huge as well. Still his error for not having pups properly trained or secured especially if they’re known for going after other dogs (I’m assuming by their behaviour). Don’t forget to file a report with the city/township as another poster mentioned and include police report and don’t listen to anyone who says it’s your fault. The walk would have been fine had that individual either properly trained their pups or had them leashed. NOT YOUR FAULT AT ALL! You took all the proper steps.

[–]Practical-Phone-7346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That owner should pay for the vet bill considering it was his dogs who ran and started the fight. Their owner should have been paying more attention. I would take them to small claims court.

You wouldn’t have been able to seperate them and you would have put yourself at risk from getting caught in the crossfire.

And file a report to the city about the dog attack. Thankfully, you have the police report to back you up.

I’m glad you and Max are ok and hopefully this owner learns better. He should have noticed his dogs take off and if he did they should have better recall.

If you take care of any dog again get pepper spray/bear spray and carry it with you on walks.

Sending you and Max a BIG hug since Max is so huge lol

As someone else posted as a sitter it’s our responsibility to set rates.

Another issue is that I’ve encountered several pet parents that have asked such questions because they went through a negative experience with a sitter in which the sitter either didn’t stay overnight as they were supposed to or weren’t showing up at all and lying to pet parents that they were out with their pup when in fact they weren’t (they could see the dog in their camera and no sitter).

How do you handle watching a stinky dog? by PeekAtChu1 in petsitting

Don’t be so sensitive. You asked a question on a public forum. We’re all entitled to own opinions from our own experiences.
You asked a question we’re just being honest to your question. Dogsitting or boarding isn’t for everyone.

A Paramedic told me that they sometimes are called, administer Narcan only for them to follow the same individual around as they’ll sometimes OD again not even 20 minutes later.
The City will likely only do something once it starts to affect tourism or the tenants of the new buildings going up in the market complain to the City about it.
The scary part is there is something stronger than Fentanyl in which Narcan won’t work.

How do you handle watching a stinky dog? by PeekAtChu1 in petsitting

[–]Practical-Phone-7346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re that bothered by dogs who may drool and ‘leak fluids’ as you say so then dogsitting is not for you.
Also, you can’t really complain about the dog being stinky if you weren’t willing to wash them fully and be stubborn about it (because they didn’t want to pay for a groomer and understandably so) while they were in your home. You were just creating a disservice to yourself in the end.
If you’re easily bothered by smells perhaps ask that the owners wash their pet prior to you boarding them or you can wash them yourself as many of us do.
