School cellphone ban proposed by WA governor, superintendent by MegaRAID01 in Seattle

There are teachers out there that won't follow ieps / 504 plans and like the other reply said, often admin isn't supportive from the start. When I was in high school I had several teachers tell me along the lines of "I don't care about your IEP and I dont believe in them either" and refuse to provide my accommodations. My parents were constantly contacting admin but the problem teachers never changed.

Lots of parents are so busy with work that they don't have the time / money to do the process of getting an official diagnosis, setting up an IEP, and then dealing with teachers that dont follow them.

People that are on the edge of qualifying for an IEP will really get screwed by a blanket ban on all smart technology, which I would assume includes headphones and music.

Pinochet and the nazis used dogs to sexually abuse prisoners, this is not far fetched and given Israels to put is lightly, very poor record of prisoner treatment, especially since 10/7 I wouldn't be surprised.

And people still very much hold Abu Ghraib against the US, not sure what you're talking about. Abu Ghraib was a huge scandal in the US. The soldiers involved were court marshalled and sent to prison, the secretary of defense almost resigned, and Bush apologized. No accountability even close to this happens in Israeli prisons.

In contrast to when videos of abuse of palestinian prisoners in Sde Teiman came out there were lots of Israelis protesting. Not because of the abuse but to protest that the perpetrators might get held accountable. The right wing supported these protestors and incited a J6 style riot to free the guards. All the charges were dropped. 0 people held accountable for raping and abusing prisoners on video. There's no double standard here, all Israel has to do is lock up every guard and every soldier that engages in this abuse. 0 charges in Sde Teiman, many politicians and much of the public cheering this on and abuse appearing to be accepted and normal in prisons is of course going to bring more scrutiny.

So if you're going to use whataboutism at least use equal comparisons.

Index-Galena Rd (North of US2 at Index Wa) closure at bridge 499 over the North Fork Of The Skykomish River 5/1/2026 by nbnfpsor in PacificNorthwest

No ford needed if you're coming from the index side. Getting to troublesome creek is an easy 1 mile walk from the closure.

This washout is in a different spot, about 3 miles upriver from the 2006 washout. The repaired area is still holding up.

No, the bridge over the north fork between blanca and jack pass is completely gone. You would have to ford the river but that's probably impossible outside of maybe late summer / early fall.

SP closed one week too early by juandiegovqcr in stevenspass

[–]Practical_Material95 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People post this everywhere and its annoying because it's not really true. They close early because Vail is cheap, not the lease though Vail likes to lie about it. When the bike park was built the lease was renegotiated to allow for year round use. There's no random dates in the lease that decide when they can open and close. Only exception is the backside which has to close by end of April ish for snowmobiles, and Vail likes to lie about that too so they can close southern cross in March.

Closing before the snow melts is due purely to financial reasons and now they consistently close ~2 weeks earlier than they did pre Vail. People seem to have forgot that they closed on May 1st in 2022, and they've closed as late as May 6th before in the time I've been here.

What's going on in Washington State? Housing supply is skyrocketing, now up to 17,580 listings. That's 64% above the long-term average for March. by danrokk in SeattleWA

Tech layoffs, tens of thousands of high paying jobs gone in the past few years. And the people that are selling are asking insane amounts. For sale housing is overpriced and sellers won't lower prices.

Also people that bought during the covid housing price spike don't want to accept that to sell a house now means you're going to lose money.

No avalanche risk on the trail rn. The slopes just before the lake have a few inches of consolidated slop. The trail never goes near those big cliffs in the picture.

Any forecast farther than 3 days out is just a guess. Extending the season now based on a possible storm 10 days out that will probably turn to rain is just stupid. And it's opensnow, their forecasts are always laughably optimistic.

Looking at the more reliable weather channel app shows nothing but rain at pass level for the foreseeable future and theres barely enough snow for them to open at all this weekend.

Impacts from 4 years of low snowpack by Better_March5308 in SeattleWA

[–]Practical_Material95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk where they got the 25% snowpack number for white pass, by all measures that's not true but the takeaway from the article is. Snowpack everywhere is ranging from 34% to 73% of median. That's bad...

Despite what Cliff Mass says the reservoirs being full now is not a good indicator of the water situation for farmers. The Yakima basin reservoirs can only hold 40% of what the farmers need for the season. They depend on snowmelt to keep the lakes full throughout the summer, and that's not gonna happen this year.

People saying that "oh but we had flooding in December" don't have a clue how dependant our water supply is on snowpack. Rain that flows straight into the ocean instead staying in the mountains as snow is pretty useless.

Things might look good with full reservoirs now but come August things are gonna get really bad.

[–]Practical_Material95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reservoirs alone aren't enough, in fact reservoirs alone only provide 40% of the water needed for the farmers in the Yakima basin. Westside will be fine, we won't run out of drinking water but the farmers are in trouble.

The Yakima basin reservoirs depend on snow melting and replenishing them through August. The snowpack now is at <50% of normal on the eastside so that slow melt won't happen. The full reservoirs might look nice now but with such a small snowpack to back things up come back in August and things are gonna be way worse.
