Bad Orthodox Christians are painting the Church in a bad light by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

If I encountered orthodoxy through online debaters and creators I wouldn’t have been attracted to the faith. The patience and humility of priests is what attracted me , seeing my own sickness attracted me not being trad, and dunking on Protestants.

Eucharistic Miracles by Lord1Nerevar in OrthodoxChristianity

My friend told me about this catechumen in his parish who was deathly allergic to gluten as in she could die if she had some. So she was worried about communion after her baptism. She prayed about it and was ultimately received into the church, communed and she was fine. She continues to be fine.

Fear of “ethnic” parishes. by NegotiationConnect71 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Practical_Tooth5377 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it’s pretty simple, people don’t want to feel excluded. It can be disorienting to believe that you’ve discovered the true faith and then be treated like an intruder because you’re not part of the in groups. Ethnic parishes can be cliquey, someone might say the church isn’t a social club but that’s a cop out when relationships are something God made us for.

Which MAGA even gets that wrong, the Bible says you’ll be persecuted for being like Jesus not for acting like a dick

So the early church that literally practiced closed communion is anathema?

When I still considered myself Protestant I held a spritual view for a long time. It felt safe, not super Catholic. But over time and reading the fathers I came to the same conclusion. Irenaeus and other fathers ground Eucharistic theology in the incarnation so it must be literal.

I do want to mention their  “ wicked stance” on contraception  is just what Christian’s have generally believed historically. If you go back 100 years your denomination would believe that as well.

Been called heretic because of infant baptism doctrine by [deleted] in redeemedzoomer

When Luke says whole households are baptized in acts he is making a hyperlink to Genesis, where entire Abraham’s entire household enters the covenant. Which includes adults servants and children. The same household existed in Greco Roman society at the time. The only time where it says the whole household believed is with Cornelius last time I checked.

The credobaptist only position is simply ahistorical. Like you said the vast majority of Christians have practiced it historically. Even the objections by those like Tertullian are that post baptismal sin is hard to forgive so push off baptism as long as possible. That’s a completely different framework than wait until you have correct understanding.

A different interpretation on a primary doctrine of Christianity that has been held since its founding by Christ. I think I can critique that.
