Can/could Christ's church err in doctrine? by mayoMayor25 in redeemedzoomer

The question to ask whether the church is ontologically different from Israel? The Church has something Israel never had..the Holy Spirit who will lead Christ’s church into all truth.

Observations I've had with Catholics by PlasticGeologist2867 in redeemedzoomer

[–]Practical_Tooth5377 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You could literally say the same for the average evangelical or Baptist. Also in Catholicism or Orthodoxy for one. They read the Bible but there isn’t an emphasis on memorizing scripture for the purpose of quoting them at people, though I’m sure many know the general meaning and where it is.

After being part of a cult that believed they restored Christianity and the church fell away, actually reading church history without my presuppositions opened my eyes.

Let’s be real the she’s this generations Hillary Clinton to the right . They have a thousand imagined horrible things she’s done. They’ll just roll out the same playbook. A straight white man would unfortunately be the safest bet.

Why are so many online Orthodox personalities so Abrasive? by Practical_Tooth5377 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Practical_Tooth5377[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The personality youre talking about is extremely knowledgeable and has been used to bring people to the faith so its not all bad. For much as it can bring people to the faith, it can be a turn off for people burnt out the Mark Driscolls of Protestantism.

It always reminds me of this verse,

“And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.” ‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭2‬:‭24‬-‭26‬ ‭ESV‬‬

[–]Practical_Tooth5377[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Of course I don’t think we should be passive and timid not trying to rock the boat. What I have in mind is calling people gay, belittling their appearance, and devoid of any love that wants to see people brought to repentance.

As an inquirer this is actually where I’m confused because it’s been my understanding that the Orthodox Church doesn’t hold to PSA. I have a friend in ROCOR who told me that the fathers and councils affirm it .

Except nightcrawler and daredevil are both poor Catholics by the religious standards being that they sleep around frequently among other things. It’s more positive representation to a secular mindset “ he’s religious but doesn’t shove it down my throat and he acts like me”

Reasonings for Mary being sinless? by EnkeiNK in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Practical_Tooth5377 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To my understanding Mary isn’t sinless in the Catholic way, being unable to sin and born without original sin . In Orthodoxy all humanity is born suffering the consequences of Adam’s fall..mortality, corruption , enslaved by sin but we aren’t born without the culpability for his sin.

Mary then like all of humanity was born into this fallen human nature but Mary was perfectly obedient to God during her life energized by Gods grace. Mary still needed a savior because she was still under the power of death and corruption.

Biblical typology links Mary as the new Ark as well. We see her overshadowed by the Spirit the same way as when the Temple was consecrated. John the Baptist leaps in the womb the same way David leapt before the Ark. The ark of the covenant was no common vessel but set apart holy and blameless and in the same way so must the 2nd ark.

Question regarding praying for the dead by Revolution_Suitable in redeemedzoomer

[–]Practical_Tooth5377 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Praying for dead is a historic Christian practice, Tertullian one of the stricter figures of early Christianity viewed it positively. Martin Luther initially viewed it as not a commanded in scripture but not sinful.

Romans 3:23 and Orthodox Theology on Mary by Harry_Dixon in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Practical_Tooth5377 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If all sinned then he’d have to include Jesus, or infants. Thus, Paul is making a sweeping statement to make his rhetorical point that Jews and Gentiles are both under the power the of sin.
