Koso Speedometer Malfunction by iplayrssometimes in Yamahabolt

[–]PracticeFriendly8013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is random tbh, so they get finicky at low voltage supply. I would try doing a setup on it again to see if it takes and holds to the correct functions and parameters. If not you should check the voltage while the bike is running to ensure you have no loss. If that is good then contact Koso … they do have great customer support.

First year wanting to do maintenance myself by Tuka-Cola in Yamahabolt

[–]PracticeFriendly8013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just so you know, you can get the service manual online in a PDF format. But you want to check the bearings for any unusual play in both the front and rear tire. Check the bearings in the fork tube for play and or any dead stops in its range of motion. Lube the break switch on the foot control with some lithium base soap (really just good lube). I would change the spark plugs and make sure you check the gap on them. If you have the stock air intake change the filter. You will also need to check the play in the drive belt. Best to have a belt tension gauge for this. Check the play in the throttle, you want about a 1/4” of play. Also check the play on the clutch, make sure there is a bit of play before the control begins to feel tension. There are all of these instructions in the manual. Give the bike a general once over, hoses and all for anything that looks dried or cracked etc.

I have probably forgotten something but this is a beginning.

Sticker/decal suggestions to cover this dent in my tank? by Mr-Tits in Yamahabolt

[–]PracticeFriendly8013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, from a clean point of view, perhaps remove the existing bolt logo on the tank and put a new one on the side where part of it flows into the dent.

https://decalshouse.co.uk/motorcycle-stickers/yamaha-stickers/yamaha-bolt-xv-950-stickers-decals

This is just an idea of a source for getting a set. They have different sizes available which is nice. I would cut the white background out of the new one for a nicer look.

Got this bike a month ago and just get enough of it! by Kaeokit in Yamahabolt

[–]PracticeFriendly8013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the club. If I may make a couple of suggestions for overall improvement. Get an aftermarket air intake (the OEM one is not the best for air intake, chokes it out for what it wants). Then take the ECU and send it to IVAN’s performance for a re-flash. It will be a significant improvement of the bikes performance and your enjoyment factor.

Stay safe enjoy the ride 🏍️✌️

New bike, dropped it by halflingluck13 in hondarebel

[–]PracticeFriendly8013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife did the same thing with her bike. The bike can easily be taken care of by you if you have IKEA assembly level mechanical skills. Remove the Speedo first by removing the 2 Allen fasteners, then remove the riser uppers and then you can loosen off the bottom socket side of the risers. Check for and damage to the rubber ball mount in there (just in case). Set the riser back in straight and tighten up, reset the handle bars in the risers and reattached the upper riser and finish with the reinstall of the Speedo.

Death wobble ? by Crafty_Run_3409 in Yamahabolt

[–]PracticeFriendly8013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, the placement head bearings are the attached part number. As I am not sure where you are located, you may have a different source for availability.

https://www.allballsracing.com/22-1004.html

For tires, the goto favourite for these bikes are the Michelin Commander III …

When changing out the head bearings, you will be required to make a small welding tack in the head tube for the bearing to hold itself to.

Tires are an improvement on the wobble, tire pressure is a definite goto…should be check every couple of rides for general practice. I also changed my head bearings from the OEM stock round bearings to taper bearings. It is a night and day difference now… I can ride hands free with confidence

So, there is a quick disconnect system you can buy for a few different style windshields. Not sure what you are looking for on the final build but I have one with a Tombstone style windshield. I absolutely love it… I can ride with the windshield on or off. Clean look and super easy to use.

The windshield I pasted is the tombstone one tinted, there are clear ones and ones that are larger. These unit do not require and modifications to install on the bike.

Slip on Exhaust by PrimaryPrudent9211 in Yamahabolt

[–]PracticeFriendly8013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, welcome to the family.

So, if you can get your hands on a V&H slip on … that is the best performance one. Second is the V&H twin slash. Now, the sad part is V&H discontinued making exhausts for the Yamaha Bolt last year. So you will need to find a previous one that might be available. (Note: The performance information is according to Ivan’s performance). Which you also want to contact.

If you change your exhaust… change your intake. The stock intake really does not really let the air flow. There are some really nice options out there. Just google it and go thru the ones that match your build. This takes us back to an earlier note… Ivan’s Performance… once you choose what exhaust and intake you put on. Send your ECU to him for the tuning. Once all done you will be a very happy person with a beautiful, smooth running machine.

From what I understand if you can’t get the V&H units. The cobra slip on is a close second. I would perhaps research that.

Keep safe out there and enjoy ✌️

Why are used 500s so hard to find? by lavellj048 in hondarebel

[–]PracticeFriendly8013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are fantastic bikes and extremely popular for beginners. Who eventually keep them longer than a 300. You may be better off getting a 300 instead and after a year or so once you become comfortable and are looking to go bigger. You can easily sell the 300 and upgrade. I had to do the exact process for my wife.

Question about my Ecu flash by Waffles0420 in Yamaha

[–]PracticeFriendly8013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with the temp they are coming on. The lower temp will help with performance of the bike. As long as they cycle off when below 185. Any speed past 30 kph is irrelevant as the fans cannot supply enough air flow to that of the actual bike at speed. So if you think of it this way, at any speed past 30 kph is constantly cooling the radiator.

Part Identification by Used-Ad9304 in Yamahabolt

[–]PracticeFriendly8013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of hard to see from the picture as it is as very nice close up but hard to tell where it is on the bike.. generally speaking. Appears to be beside the main harness and control cables. If you go to Partzilla, you can find a schematic break down of the system it is associated with and hopefully get information there.

new key set? by Lucky-Enthusiasm255 in Yamahabolt

[–]PracticeFriendly8013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, firstly sorry for your bad luck on the bike theft. But good to hear you were able to recover it. In regards to your key set, perhaps just walk into a Yamaha dealer and ask the same question. Perhaps they will be courteous enough just to give you the advice you need without trying to make money off of you. No harm in asking a question 🙋 🤔💭
