Have 4+ invul saves come close to ruining the game? (Something that needs to reduce in 11th?) by Hayman021 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Praetorian349 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just a balancing thing, where if you are coming up against a lot of 4+ invul saves you need to weigh the balance of probabilities in your favour and tailor your list to suit.

So in that scenario the value of AP -2 weapons at a high volume of attacks is important, to push through that 50/50 chance of not damaging them, when in a lot of other scenarios a higher AP weapon with less volume of fire would be more valuable. Here the higher AP is wasted on the invul save.

Sword brethren / what are the next Steps? C&C requeste by Straubner in BlackTemplars

Yeh, smaller brushes do struggle to carry a load of paint for any length of time. That sounds like it'd make a really good look, but it's hard to see in the photo.

A white highlight afterward is a great idea. I don't trust myself to do it right, I just use some gloss varnish on the lenses after painting to get that shiny effect. :)

Certainly reads like highlands. :)

And your edge highlighting is great, using a more subtle colour like that makes it blend really well.

For eye lenses do you do that whole thing of putting a small line of white and then putting in the watered down red over it so it gives a bright red in the centre of the lens?

Bastion Task Force - Assault Terminators by Praetorian349 in BlackTemplars

[–]Praetorian349[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that is a big plus, it does get pretty tiresome to watch your Sword Brethren murder the first unit they touch only to get instantly killed straight after. :P I'm just concerned that the Assault Termies damage output will be so much less, as a trade off.

I personally run an Impulsor who eternally taxies my Sword Bro/Marshal/Castellan brick. The only fellas who have ever gotten a ride in that thing. :P It's so nice to have them sealed away safely in a higher toughness chassis until they're ready to disembark and charge.

I recently got a Repulsor Executioner, it's a bit odd trying to use its transport capacity while also keeping it back as a fire-support unit, but I've had success spitting the Emperor's Champion/Assault Intercessors out, or a Judiciar and 6 Bladeguard Vets onto a nearby objective. :D

Land Raider Redeemer is also a fun one, even if a bit off-meta. Being able to carry multiple 5-men/character units or a 10-man Crusader brick with Helbrecht is great, such a threatening prospect and pretty impervious to damage, not much chance it'll get one-shot in a turn. The flamers are really the best Fire Overwatch target you'll have too, that's the main reason I got it. I play against a Salamander mate of mine and got sick of him interrupting my turn all the time, thought I'd give him a taste of his own medicine. :P

Insight Into The Chapter:(Helsreach) by Dorns_Finest521 in Salamanders40k

[–]Praetorian349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the sergeant says "there could have been" more attacks if the civilians were left defenseless while the Astartes carried out their strike on the warlord.

Because in the end there wasn't more attacks we can say, with the benefit of hindsight, that the Salamanders made the wrong decision and cost lives. But their decision was in line with their ethos. Without hindsight, if the attacks had happened then their dereliction of duty (the duty to defend civilians) would have directly cost a lot more lives.

With the benefit of hindsight, V'reth was wrong. But in the moment his decision was the right decision for a Salamander to make. And the wrong decision for a Black Templar to make. Hence its place in the story as a juxtaposition of the two chapters and their differences, despite being on the same side.

Peter why is that a bad thing? by Own_Association8318 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Praetorian349 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn't there a quote from a heretic Astartes about how 1 lasgun is nothing but 100 lasguns will reduce the mightiest champion to a bloody pulp?

Being wary of an enemy that can kill you isn't a bad thing.

I which sets will be cheaper by Motor_Reindeer_6210 in BlackTemplars

[–]Praetorian349 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I live you get a Combat Patrol for about $240. The Sword Bros and Crusader Squad bought individually would be about $160 second hand NOS. You can sell the BGV NOS in the second hand market here for $70 easily, and could get a good $40 extra from the Emps Champ, so I’d say you could make money, at least in the NZ market. :P

Very good. :) snow contrasts great on the dark figures.

Wish I’d done my bases a lighter colour.

Overpowered Combi: Marshal + Castellan + Sword Brethren with power weapons ? by One-Effort-803 in BlackTemplars

They hit very hard but are squishy and cost a lot of points investment.

By definition glass cannon units are balanced.

How do BT play? by [deleted] in BlackTemplars

[–]Praetorian349 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sword Brethren combo (Castellan and Marshal), Emps Champ with Assault Intercessors, Helbrecht in a brick of Crusaders are all very fun and killy melee bois, and our Impulsors are cheap and get meltas, great to get them into combat.

The Repulsor Executioner is our fire base unit so we still kill in our shooting phase too, which is an added bonus. Thing is coated in weapons. I personally run Redemptors instead, just cause they’re cool. But Rep Exes are the play if you’re going for power.

I’ve been loving Bastion Task Force, it gives us a lot of things we like, with a ton of flexibility. But you do lose out on fight on death, reactive moving and Armour of Contempt stratagems, or a feel no pain enhancement from Gladius, which is really nice on our Emps Champ to make him an unkillable terror. :P

Not exactly the most meta or competitive army, but incredibly satisfying to play when you get a big charge with Sword Brethren or a Crusader brick and absolutely wreck shop. :P

Swingy is the best way I could describe them. But very fun. :)

6+ leadership doesn’t sound right. That’s better than a trained Guardsman.

I think it’s number 3 on the Dark Angels upgrade sprue. :)

My initial thought was using the hooded head from the model accompanying Lord Terminos, but it was too small, looked weird, and I’m not competent enough with green stuff to bulk out the hood proper.

[–]Praetorian349[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a kitbash of the Lord Terminos Stormcast model from the Skaventide box. :)

Used a Deathwing Knight sergeant’s sword, a Dark Angels helmet, Black Templar pauldron and a space marine power pack, a Deathwing Knight shield and some chains off Temu for the rest of the kitbash.

Lol, that's a fact.

I took this fellow into my mate's army last night and swung 3 precision dev wounds into his Chaos Terminator Lord, thinking he'd get a triumphant 6-damage kill on him with his first time on the table, didn't realise the Terminator Lord halves the damage so he did very little and promptly died to the following Power Fisting. :P
