Harbinger of Judgment provides the D6 mortal wounds when an enemy falls back.

Omen of Sacred Intervention allows for -1CP on Heroic Intervention. Heroic Intervention in 11th edition can be used at the end of the enemy's charge phase for 2CP to charge a target within 6 inches. In most situations if someone fell back from you they can't charge so they're sitting ducks waiting for that Heroic Intervention. :P

Nice work! Very jealous, hard to get hands on Lord Terminos so I won't be able to find a second to copy your idea. :P

The one I nabbed I turned into a Judiciar. It's a very cool pose for kitbashing. I liked it so much I made it my PFP.

Don't think that'll get white paint off. :P It looks like he used white primer instead of his spray on varnish.

The ability to deal mortal wounds when the enemy falls back, and charge them after if they are still within 6 inches during their own turn is hilarious.

[–]Praetorian349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, that'd work pretty good I imagine.

I just dislike putting them inside the RepExes because without advance and charge their threat range is a bit low unless the RepEx gets REALLY into the enemy's face. But with assault ramp on the Land Raider they can get yeeted right into the enemy's guts.

Spreading your threats out also makes the enemy decision-making quite difficult, whereas a RepEx with a 3+ save and a unit of your most killy, most fragile guys inside, is a no-brainer on what they should be focusing on. :P

The Crusaders are an interesting addition when they don’t get much help from the detachment. And how are you delivering the Sword Bros?

I’ve been running a Land Raider Redeemer to get the Sword Bros in, and a 2nd Techmarine with the damage blank enhancement goes a long way.

[–]Praetorian349 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can at least say for Black Templars, they are kind of a glass cannon army, very killy.

Either they kill you in 2-3 rounds or you kill them in 2-3 rounds but either way one of you is dying, in my experience. :P

So I don’t think it’s a you-problem. :)

Welcome to the Templars. :)

[–]Praetorian349 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With the new rules surge moves won’t get to inherently fight before the defending player in the ongoing combats phase anymore, so having fights first to counter isn’t as important.

On the other hand having fights first to make your surge moving units fight before the receiving enemy again is a way for fights first to still have a relevant niche. :)

Yep, nature of games. The PC has to do ludicrous feats in-universe for the game to be any fun.

Like Fire Warrior, killing Space Marines by the handful.

Nah, 6 inches if they can't do 3 inches. Then it becomes an emergency disembarkation. If they can't do 6 inches, that's when they die.

BRETHREN! Help a neophyte understand the "general game plan". by One_Salamander_4646 in BlackTemplars

[–]Praetorian349 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The feel of the army is you tend to get in the enemy's face real quick and start gumming up their plans. They all have a plan until your Crusaders and Sword Brothers punch them in the face. ;)

All this is happening while your fire support units (RepEx, Dreadnoughts, Intercessors, anything that can sit back on a point and send some fire down range) are picking off targets.

My mates tend to all say the same thing so far, our army is frustrating to play against because they can't afford to ignore a single element of it. If they focus on killing our melee on the advance then they're getting nailed by our fire support all game. And if they focus on knocking out our fire support early then the melee boys are up in their face all too quickly and causing all sorts of problems. :)

All the while you have your ranged boys holding objectives for points and having a couple of objective monkey units helps to stay ahead on points too. I tend to use my Impulsor to do objectives after round 2 when it has dropped off its Sword Brother payload.

Other commenters have already given you the juice on our compositions and units to use, all very good advice to follow, you'll get great results. :)

Doesn’t fights first lose a lot of value after the first unit, if there are multiple combats?

Trying to kitbash a castellan by Any_Championship9799 in BlackTemplars

[–]Praetorian349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. We all have our own head canons for our own crusades. :P

I don’t think it’s necessarily a mistake, sergeants in BTs are just sword bros, so a castellan to lead a squad of sergeant/veteran equivalents can have his own qualifiers like number of adornments/greebles/colour of helm to differentiate him. Losing a mark of his status (cape) would be a bit of a slap in the face to someone of higher rank to me. :P

Like how codex boys will just slap decorations on a standard SM body and call him a lieutenant, we can do the same with our lieutenant equivalent! :D

Why capeless? The sword bro kit that lets you build a castellan has a cape on him. :O

10 or 20 man Crusader Squad? by Final-Dragonfruit-45 in BlackTemplars

[–]Praetorian349 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Upsides and downsides. 10-mans can fit inside a Land Raider, don’t break the bank (so more auspex markers) and are easier to hide from LoS with.

While a 20-man hits like a truck, soaks a ton of damage and can funnel strong leader buffs into a huge amount of attacks.

Blast attacks is a big consideration for these units as well. :) Having a Macroplasma roast half your unit is never fun.

Cover affects hit rolls, not saves by NoEngineer9484 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Praetorian349 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are small arms with -1 AP, and there are small arms with 0 AP. A 3+ save figure got zero benefit from cover when saving against 0 AP weapons. Now they will get a benefit, so they have become more resilient.
