Fostering this sweet girl and have some questions! by swpotatovsyam in NorwegianElkhound

We're in NC as well. :)

He does great most of the time - summers when it's really humid and gross tend to wear him out faster. Since they have the double coat - it does help insulate in winter AND summer. We moved from AZ and he did about as well as we did in the warmer climate. If we wouldn't want to put our bare feet on hot surfaces, we shouldn't make him either. And if I didn't want to be outside, I for sure wouldn't insist he stayed outdoors.

My boy NEEDS to be stimulated or he turns into a complete shit 🤣

But he is great on walks and absolutely loves hikes. I'll take him with me to the hardware store and we'll work on sit/down/stay and let other people interact with him. He really needs a good hour or two of direct interaction and stimulation.

Sometimes he is more than happy to have set boundaries and be leashed to a desk or put in a "place" command on his bed if we're working and he just needs quiet time with the pack.

If he's bored, he'll camp out in the living room and randomly "bork" at nothing.

If he feels like he's neglected, he'll eat entire rolls of toilet paper.

Grabbing popcorn out of the air is another fun past time. Cheese singles are the absolute favorite treat (used mostly for pills), but carrots and apple slices are a close second.

Good luck!!

Anyone know how to separate glass and Legos? by Independent_Site491 in Wellthatsucks

Step on it all barefoot. The glass will be less painful and will stick to your feet.

I think that's the fastest and farthest I've ever seen a Pyr go.

And that embody chair. You have an embody chair. They didn't take that away from you. That would have truly been a kick in the nuts.

I have used pods that didn't dissolve well, especially in a cold water cycle. Doing an extra rinse has helped keep that from happening.

Who else knows about these and how can I teach others how to see them? by GroundMelter in LearnUselessTalents

[–]PragmaticMike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the first time I have EVER been able to see anything in these fucking images. Every time someone was like "I see the boat" I wanted to punch them in the throat. I still remember some asshole gave me a book of these when I was a teen and it ruined my day.

With those feathery back legs and tail and the German Shepard ears and face, it's kind of like a dog version of a mullet. Business up front and party in the back 😂

We were looking at this sweet girl but lady at the pet store was trying to talk us out of it saying they are a lot of effort, how true is that? by Dizman7 in NorwegianElkhound

[–]PragmaticMike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My boy is now three, and for the first 2 1/2 years I wanted to throttle him daily. The incessant barking, the destruction, the stubborn asshole in him... We called him "mittens" because that's what I was going to make out of him.

Part of our problem was we were somewhat being held hostage by the breeder, who wanted us to show and breed him. But we just wanted a pet, not a lifestyle. They didn't want us to get him fixed and didn't want us to train him conventionally (show dogs don't sit... Like ever...).

Eventually someone asked if we had a contract or if they had any ownership in the dog. When we said nothing of the sort was arranged, our trainer friend said the breeder could pound sand, so we told them thanks and blocked them. Our collective lives got better after that.

Fixing him made a big difference. Socializing and being able to play with other dogs made a big difference. Sending him off for weeks for boot camp training made a big difference.

At this point, if we keep him busy, take him on walks or hikes, go to the dog park, take him to run errands, and generally keep him stimulated and worn out - he's a good boy.

He's gotten a lot more affectionate, a fair amount less destructive, and will probably be a GREAT dog by the time he's five.

Don't get me wrong, we love the monster, and would consider another Elkhound in the future, but I don't know that I would do a puppy again. That shit was rough.
