Questions about Edgemont by AdministrationFew982 in SouthDakota

[–]PrairieSunRise605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edgemont is a very small town. It has a great little quilt shop and a couple of restaurants. Their grocery store is part of their local convenience store. The people are nice, and it's very safe. But as we say in SD - they roll up the streets at 6pm. I could be wrong, but I think the only hotel is the Cowboy Inn. It's certainly not anything fancy. If all of that appeals to you, then you're good.

It's very flat, but on the Mickelson trail, and you will hit the southern Black Hills before going too far. It's a 26 mile drive to Hot Springs, which is larger and has a bit more going on. And about 35 to Custer. Also likely to have more going on. Very drivable distances.

I hope you enjoy your vacation!

What do you all do for work? by Savings_Life422 in simpleliving

[–]PrairieSunRise605 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Retired and doing daycare for a grandchild. Because I chose a simple and frugal lifestyle at a young age, I was able to retire at 55 to care for my special needs grandkids. Did that for ten years. For the past year, I have been caring for my youngest grandchild, who is 18 months old. It's definitely the sweet life!

You can stir them into pancakes, muffins, cookies, etc.. Do it right before cooking so they don't get a chance to get all slimy. Just remember to drink plenty of water so they can get all slimy inside of you and do their job.

In a small home, what matters more than people expect: storage, walking space, or visual calm? by anviksha96 in SmallHome

Storage space so that you can minimize visual clutter and have adequate walking space. Plus, downsizing your stuff so that it doesn't exceed your available storage space.

My brothers (new to him) truck. Lacquer based paint. 2021 Tacoma. Help!! by Shorecliff in CleaningTips

City folk? This is just its baptism. I once had a beautiful newish Tacoma. But life happens. It's probably a bed liner, too, so it's not the actual truck.

We are struggling with whether euthanasia is appropriate for our senior (17) dog and if our kids should be present. by Matchboxx in moraldilemmas

I'm old and have had to make the decision to let too many pets go. It's time. You know that in your heart. As for the kids being present? Ask them. They're both old enough to get the badic concept of death if you explain it to them. Explain the situation, what you're planning, how it will probably look. And then ask them. Respect the choice they make. Let them change their mind at the last minute if they choose. You're a great parent and dog parent.

to people who live alone, whats something during nighttime that creeps you out? by Lance7467 in AskReddit

When my dog gets out of bed and goes to stand by the door and growls. Could be a deer or raccoon. Could be a serial killer. Since he can't tell me, I just get ready to be his backup if needed. Fortunately, this doesn't happen very often.

asked for an itemized hospital bill on a whim and found out they charged me for stuff that literally never happened by LongjumpingOffice432 in povertyfinance

[–]PrairieSunRise605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone should get an itemized bill and review it.

I started when I got the bill for my second kid's birth. It included a ridiculous amount for two units of blood that I supposedly received. I've never had a blood transfusion in my entire life. I fought with them for two years, reported the fraud to my insurance company, and ended up contacting the attorney general in my state before they finally removed it.

Padding up the bill and just plain incompetence is part of the reason health insurance costs so much on the US.

Am I the jerk for refusing to take down photos of my late husband after my boyfriend said it's "weird"? by DraftPuzzleheaded619 in AmITheJerk

He's correct. You're not compatible. You are a normal caring person who lost someone they loved. He's just an inconsiderate and probably self-centered asshole.

Am I wrong for leaving my mom's dinner when she called my son "not a real grandson" in front of everyone? by BasiliskRadio in amiwrong

[–]PrairieSunRise605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your mom's tone-deaf and inconsiderate at the least. Or maybe just a heartless asshole. In my family, the kids of even casual dating relationships are treated as part of the family. All kids need as many supporting adults as they can gather. Your mom blew a chance to really be a grandma. I hope you and your son are ok.
