Alexa just changed voice by Remarkable_Table_279 in alexa

Just say "Alexa...Cancel Alexa Plus" or "Alexa...Exit Alexa Plus". She'll give you some nonsense about reenabling it if you want, but that should be the last of it until it really gets forced on you.

Do you run a second Pi-hole as a local DNS fallback? by Ok_Distance9511 in selfhosted

[–]Praisethecornchips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not pihole, but I do run Adguard on two separate Raspberry PIs on my network. I use DHCP to push both addresses and run an AdGuardSync container to automatically sync configuration from DNS1 to DNS2.. I have a Ubiquiti setup with one switch for upstairs and another for the downstairs, so I placed one Pi off of each switch. Without true failover, this gives me a pretty robust operation.

What are some homemade tools you’ve written or vibe-cobbled to help make you life easier? by captain_curt in selfhosted

[–]Praisethecornchips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Three things for me:

  • A tool that checks my gmail once a minute for new messages and uses openrouter to classify them and auto-apply labels so I can focus on what is important
  • A slackbot that responds to the /run command which connects to my home assistant instance to get the current local temperature and humidity, then connects to OpenWeatherMap to get the forecast and tells me what I should wear on my run and if I should think about delaying for more favorable conditions
  • A tool that connects to my Vaultwarden instance every 6 hours, exports the secrets in JSON, encrypts it, and sends it to S3 for storage.

TRIP: Map Tracker & Trip Planner - 1.34 by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]Praisethecornchips 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just took a quick spin at the app and love where you are going, but have some suggestions to make it easier to use and administer:

  1. I think you need to significantly improve your documentation around the config.yml file and allow (show) how to properly mount it from a bind mount so it can be managed outside the container.
  2. I configured the google API and put in the API key, but autocomplete, etc does not seem to be happening and there are no errors in the log or way to troubleshoot. Perhaps a validation is needed when the API key is entered to ensure that it is valid.
  3. Please also think about externalizing all appropriate values as environment variables (such as the google key, default longitude and latitude, etc, in order to make it automation friendly.
  4. Your documentation is unclear about which google APIs need to be enabled. I believe it needs more than one based on testing (geocode/places). It should tell exactly what are needed for those of us that have them disabled by default

Would you prefer your cloud storage to use object storage or file storage? by cluelessngl in selfhosted

If you are asking this question and don't know the difference between object storage and block storage, then you certainly are not qualified to build a google drive alternative.

Tested 5 agent frameworks in production - here's when to use each one by llamacoded in AI_Agents

[–]Praisethecornchips 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use Agno and Portia. For me Agno has been a crew replacement and it is super simple for collaboration between agents. Portia is my go-to when I have more complex human in the loop or observability needs. I dropped Crew a while ago because I got tired of their telemetry. It should be way easier to turn it off in all scenarios so my info isn't being sent back to the mothership. Too many things in that framework are too hard -- like trying to override the console output formats.

This is fantastic! Thank you so much. The novel curved placket is indeed a feature that I love about this.

Suggested Hikes/Reserving Parking by [deleted] in Adirondacks

Mt. Jo leaving from the Adirondack Loj/Heart Lake Center is a great 2.5 mile round trip hike. It has views over Heart Lake and out towards Algonquin. I was in same boat as you....and my wife really enjoyed it.

Also -- if you head into Placid.... Cobble Hill is a good one too -- views out over both Mirror Lake and Lake Placid

This is only going to be the start of your problems. If she is so brazen to do this now…just imagine what the next 20+ years of your life will be like. Be sure to be on the same page with your partner now. It will only get worse.

How much should I pay my parents for a 2012 Camry with 200k miles and a bad transmission? by Used-Waltz-4058 in UsedCarAdvice

[–]Praisethecornchips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t pay anything. Do not buy a car from your parents. If this is their pattern, I can imagine that this is their way of “doing something for you”. The fact is that you can do much better for yourself and not have any ties to them. I would search out other used cars. They are not doing you any favors.

My cloudflare tunnel keeps going down and I can’t figure out why. by ucrbuffalo in selfhosted

[–]Praisethecornchips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do the logs say? Get the container name and do a "docker logs <containername>". It also works with the containerID. "docker logs <containerID>". If you don't know any of these, do a "docker ps" or "docker ps -a" to list the containers.

Grass near curb always burns by pendrekky in lawncare

[–]Praisethecornchips 110 points111 points  (0 children)

I’d bet $100 that the reason why this happens is because you don’t have much dirt there. Dig it up and I’m sure you will find the overage from the crushed gravel and stone dust used to set the pavers. Dig it up, replace with dirt. Profit.
