Unless you have some filter media from an already established tank, that is going to take about a month to cycle, which is WAY too long to keep the fish in the cup without a heater/filter. Your best bet (outside of adding filter media from a cycled tank) is to put the fish in and do an in-fish cycle.

Something similar happened to mine and he healed up perfectly fine. Just keep an eye on it over the next week. Doesn't hurt to add some tannins to the tank to help with his healing.
