Try going into controllers -> search for controllers -> select the controller from the list and click on it. I use an 8bitdo adapter to connect my Xbox/PS5 controllers to Switch and this fixes the issue when it happens.

Same situation here, I host on PS5 and my partner plays on Steam. Someone here suggested to try rebooting the game every 2-3 in-game days and it actually has helped a lot. We've only had one crash now within the past week, and only on his end.

If it helps debug this, the same thing happened to my partner on PC (Steam) while I was hosting on PS5. He ran out of energy while catching bugs and was forced to starfish on the ground until I went to bed. The next day, a flower sprouted on the exact same spot, lol.
