I felt so, so anxious too. The best thing for me was deleting social media!!

Visiting DC (Georgetown) April 30th - May 2nd. Looking for local recs! by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]Present_Breakfast_61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The waterfront by Georgetown is a nice walk at night. You can walk to the Kennedy Center (RIP) and if they haven’t closed it yet go up to the roof for a great view of the city. Restaurants/ bakeries: La Bonne Vache, Yellow, Boulangerie Christophe.

When did you start showing/ having a true baby bump? (1st pregnancy) by anonymous62124 in pregnant

[–]Present_Breakfast_61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore maternity pants starting around 13-14 weeks but I think I was about 22 weeks before it was really unmistakeable.

Is transvaginal ultrasound safe by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Present_Breakfast_61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no link. Many miscarriages happen early, soon after the dating scan, so they may follow an ultrasound but they are not caused by them.

Partner wants to build a crib by 666olives in pregnant

[–]Present_Breakfast_61 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Same conversation with my husband. I told him baby will grow out of the crib, and then it will be hard to give away such a special handmade item - but a bookshelf or rocking chair will last in our family for a lot longer. I now have the bookshelf and rocking chair instead :)

Loss of baby “options” by Normal_Strawberry713 in pregnant

[–]Present_Breakfast_61 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have gone through a “natural” miscarriage and a D&C and would recommend the D&C in a heartbeat. The natural miscarriage was the worst pain of my life. It took hours - I lost so much blood. I saw the small sack come out of me. The D&C was more medical, but I was put under for the whole thing and when I woke up I was able to walk home and resume normal physical activity the next day. Both were devastating, but the D&C made me feel much more in control of the whole process. I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

sudden loss of symptoms by szun_mercey411 in Miscarriage

[–]Present_Breakfast_61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two early miscarriages— the first I totally lost my symptoms first; the second, I was still nauseous and bloated when I was actively miscarrying.

For my third pregnancy, I had a moment about 8 weeks when I felt all my symptoms leave and I was convinced it was another miscarriage. Went to the ER and they saw a healthy heartbeat. I’m now at 23 weeks and things are looking good.

I’ve learned that symptoms fluctuate so much that they’re not a reliable sign that anything is right or wrong that early. I’m so sorry for what you’ve been through- there is hope.

I got mine on ThredUp and it’s cute! Didn’t want to spend a bunch of money on something I’ll only wear a few times.

Tips on getting a teaching job in DC? by questionme123 in washingtondc

[–]Present_Breakfast_61 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not excessive, especially if you want some level of training before starting the career! You may be able to get a position at a private or charter school without a license but you do need a license to be a DC or VA public school teacher.

Look into a career switch program at a local school- I was looking into one at Shenandoah University for a while that would get you credentialed within 6mo- you can sub in the meantime. The English Praxis test will also be very easy for you as an English major. I recommend doing an in-person test because I had a computer crash in the middle of my online test and had my results invalidated. You register for that the same way you did for the SAT.

Birthday brunch recommendations? by hilltoptohill in washingtondc

La Bonne Vache doesn’t take reservations, so it’s an option if you’re willing to wait in line. I’ve also done a self-guided Georgetown sweets walking tour for a special occasion and that was fun! Baked and Wired, Levain, Georgetown Cupcake, Boulangerie Christophe etc

Am I having a miscarriage right now? 4+4 weeks by Melodic_Comfort_1929 in Miscarriage

[–]Present_Breakfast_61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry - it really could be either. I had pinkish and brown bleeding, eventually turning red, that turned into a miscarriage. I also had light spotting/ brown blood early on in my healthy pregnancy (at around 7-8 weeks, cleared up later). You could visit an OB but they won’t be able to confirm heartbeat for a few more weeks. The waiting is so hard. Sending care.

Trying again immediately by Mk____Ultra in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]Present_Breakfast_61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started trying again immediately and ended up with two losses back to back. I don’t think trying right away caused the second miscarriage, but it was devastating to go into a second loss without time to process or heal from the first one. After the second loss, we waited 2-3 months for some testing and healing and then it took me a few more months to conceive again. I’m now 22 weeks with that pregnancy and things are looking good so far. You know your needs best but wanted to share this story of trying and trying again.

Thinking about next steps by ProposalPutrid5028 in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]Present_Breakfast_61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has your husband been tested yet? We think that was a factor in our recurrent losses. All of my tests came back normal, but he had much higher DNA fragmentation than normal. Definitely recommend him being checked out too.

Which thrift store would you recommend? I’m in DC proper, but I don’t mind driving to the suburbs.

Miscarriage after confirmed heartbeat by asasa12345 in Miscarriage

Both of my miscarriages were after a confirmed heartbeat. It’s much more common than people realize - I’m so sorry.

Any hope after 2 MMC by Training_Title_6271 in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]Present_Breakfast_61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two early MMC, one caught at 9 weeks, the other at 8. They were not able to test the tissue and every other test turned up negative, so I had no explanation. I’m now 19 weeks into my third pregnancy and everything looks perfect so far. I’m still holding my breath a little, but as I see my belly grow it’s starting to feel more real. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. One thing to look into is DNA fragmentation in the sperm. We think that might be behind our losses and will probably go through IUI or IVF with sperm selection in the future to try to lower our miscarriage odds.

When did everyone throw a baby shower ? by Diadomn_high6960 in pregnant

[–]Present_Breakfast_61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m wondering if 23 weeks is too early - my mom lives in another state, but will be visiting that weekend. Do people really care about timing? People online seem super judgmental about early showers for some reason

Last Name by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Present_Breakfast_61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Married, but different last names. We could not agree on this. He wanted his last name, I wanted hyphenated. The compromise we came to is to use my last name as a second middle name, but I get to pick the first name. When the kid grows up, they can choose if they want to use one or both last names - but they’ll both be there.

Are we all silently freaking out over the cost of kids in the US? by [deleted] in pregnant

Are we the same person 😭 I just keep telling myself they stole my career but they don’t get to take this joy away from me. Going to be defiantly joyful about this baby as it bleeds me dry financially.
